The NFL is a shell of its former self. It peaked in the late 90’s and has been going downhill ever since. You’re paying these mediocre players so much money, what is the incentive to play well?

My problem os they keep whoring out games to peacock , Amazon etc & yet raise the nfl ticket price every year while the play has become poorer & sloppy - nfl has gone the way of shrinkflation
How has it gotten poorer and sloppier? Players and coaches now are as skillful and knowledgeable as ever. Teams and strategies rise and fall. It’s no doubt defense is harder to play than ever
Owners need to stop paying "good" QBs "great" QB money. Let Tua, Lamar, Lawrence, Dak, etc. play out their final year and see if they earn it. The Browns paying Watson is in its own category of stupid.
*1000%* I've been saying this the whole month. NO ONE is playing good football right now & it's because they barely practiced & don't have any cohesiveness. Truncating Pre-Season & disallowing contact in practice is making them suck.
The only game I ever went to (Vikings vs. Chicago, 1998), I went because I got free tickets. I won't go back. People lose their civilization at a football game.
"As the NFL season lengthens, player safety is invaluable." If player safety was "invaluable," the season wouldn't lengthen ... the playoffs wouldn't expand ... the league wouldn't schedule mid-week games. The fact is that the league doesn't give a shit about "player safety." It cares about money.
The NFL is well on its way to ruin with all their future plans, starting and ending with more games. When their sole reason for doing anything is motivated by money, you know the end product will ultimately suffer. Companies that favor quantity over quality will always lose in the end. It's just a matter of when
With all the touchbacks I change the channel. If there is a kickoff return I’ll watch. Will not pay to go to a game to watch touchbacks. I’m out. Bye-bye
In addition to reducing the number of practices, they also stopped testing for weed. Now the NFL has morphed into the NBA. Lots of peaks and valleys in performance which are hard to explain, unless you know what these guys do in their free time.
Its the Soft Era. No practise, overpaid, bad decision making, to much social media, load my ass hurt mange. Soft Era has video game mentality, look at all the mass shooting & crime & carjacking
I’ve noticed that defensive backs can do things that used to be pass interference. Hands all over receivers before the ball gets there. Hence, less scoring.😊
He’s a schill. The product is terrible. I’m all for defense but this isn’t because of dominate defense. Flags, flags, and flags. Offensive line play especially in pass protection is abysmal. When they added that extra game AND took away the two team playoff by you added saturation to the schedule.
The NFL is obviously a shitty product and no longer worth watching anymore! This was a sport that I used to love to watch and follow with a dedicated passion! Today I can't follow it for more than 10 minutes! Taking out all of the physicality has ruined the natural competitive nature of the game!
What’s next, we tell MMA fighters & boxers not to hit each other too hard? As if they don’t know there will be consequences now and later in life for making those millions.
WRONG TAKE! The physical aspect of the game makes everybody STRONGER! This is no different from the NBA> Players before seldom gets hurt compared to todays ridiculous number of injuries. WHY? THE PLAYERS BECOME SOFTER THAN CAKE !!!!
The players are eating more performance enhancing drugs than ever before. Getting bigger and stronger than tendons can keep up, they also don't keep in football shape year round as rich guys and are not physically able to perform without great risk of injury due to it
This new kick off is silly , sorry it's hard to watch . I'd rather them just go back to kicking it out of the end zone rule ha. Thank goodness for college football.
70s was lower scoring, defense dominated. Defenses got as much love as offenses. People called the 13-3 Pats/Rams SB boring. Not to old timers. As long as the game is close, it is entertaining to me. People want points (not me), so newer fans are probably more unhappy. The game is sloppy and dumbed down, but will the newest' fans even notice or care (they didn't watch 10 years ago, and will 'OK Boomer' any old timer who complains)? I agree with everyone in the panel. I agree that the game could be less safe now. Less practice before reg season games, which means 0 to 60 quicker (hamstring issue). Offenses are out of synch, giving Ds an advantage, causing QBs to be more exposed and likely to flee the pocket. But that is the deal to go to 18 games, games in Europe, Thu games and probably Tues games. The game has always evolved, but it was always getting more complicated and requiring more time invested. Now it is going backwards. How will innovation happen, if the players don't even get to the level of play 5 years ago, but again, will more that 20% of the fan base even care?
QBs are paid way too much, they are consuming ridiculous percentages of the salary cap. And they haven't suddenly become octopus talented mutants. The game is still hike the ball hand it off or throw it to someone of the same jersey color. They are also given way too much extra protection. They are men, they need to be treated like men and not like women in a football uniform. All the major sports of the world have a unique appeal that attracts fans to watch it for that appeal. NFL was trench warfare warriors covered in mud and blood and bruises and broken teeth. That is what people loved watching about it. NBA is long quick and floating in the air athletes, but it was also fun watching scraps between Lakers and Celtics. MLB is a game of improbable eye hand coordination and power. Soccer is flamboyant and artistic and beautiful. Rugby and cricket are the football and baseball counterparts to the old world. Stay in your lane major sport organizations!!
Greig has literally messed up every good thing we’ve had in the past few decades Why do you think this product would be any different? Where do people think these giant salaries come from? The prices are already baked whether you and I like the product or not we’re eating the cake

How has it gotten poorer and sloppier? Players and coaches now are as skillful and knowledgeable as ever. Teams and strategies rise and fall. It’s no doubt defense is harder to play than ever
It's a great take, but telling fans to eat crap until their team gets it together is ridiculous!! It's expensive to go these games.
Owners need to stop paying "good" QBs "great" QB money. Let Tua, Lamar, Lawrence, Dak, etc. play out their final year and see if they earn it. The Browns paying Watson is in its own category of stupid.
Colin is wrong the nfl is starting to be bad all season now
how many more 'SHOCKING' in titles/headlines before it loses its effectiveness?
Already has long ago if you have an IQ over 30
*1000%*
I've been saying this the whole month.
NO ONE is playing good football right now & it's because they barely practiced & don't have any cohesiveness.
Truncating Pre-Season & disallowing contact in practice is making them suck.
I wouldn't watch a NFL game if you gave me free tickets
The only game I ever went to (Vikings vs. Chicago, 1998), I went because I got free tickets. I won't go back. People lose their civilization at a football game.
"As the NFL season lengthens, player safety is invaluable."
If player safety was "invaluable," the season wouldn't lengthen ... the playoffs wouldn't expand ... the league wouldn't schedule mid-week games. The fact is that the league doesn't give a shit about "player safety." It cares about money.
Finally TJ is back! How do you have Butters and no TJ? Glad he’s back on.
The NFL is well on its way to ruin with all their future plans, starting and ending with more games. When their sole reason for doing anything is motivated by money, you know the end product will ultimately suffer. Companies that favor quantity over quality will always lose in the end. It's just a matter of when
"My friend, Aaron Rodgers" lmao
The dude in the hat, his days are numbered of this show,
HOW you get a "yellow jacket" says it all...if you have to buy it, it's worthless...If they GIVE it to you, it's priceless!
Can’t tell you last time I watched a football game!!
With all the touchbacks I change the channel. If there is a kickoff return I’ll watch. Will not pay to go to a game to watch touchbacks. I’m out. Bye-bye
Cowherd isn’t my cup of tea for sports talk but I would have a beer with the guy.
In addition to reducing the number of practices, they also stopped testing for weed. Now the NFL has morphed into the NBA. Lots of peaks and valleys in performance which are hard to explain, unless you know what these guys do in their free time.
two things can be true: Colin can be right, and it can suck. it is what it is
A7FL: no pads, no helmets, full tackle.
The first time in a long time that I actually agreed with colin cowherd. As long as he stays away from his Woke Politics I'm good with him.
He's a typical Beta S1MP.
Its the Soft Era. No practise, overpaid, bad decision making, to much social media, load my ass hurt mange. Soft Era has video game mentality, look at all the mass shooting & crime & carjacking
Id rather watch 20-17 games than 34-31 gms, its makes the scoring harder, look whats happening in the nba- no defense makes it unwatchable
Agreed
Cowherd is a coward. Horrid politics. Strikes me as a phony. Can’t stand hearing his voice.
I’ve noticed that defensive backs can do things that used to be pass interference. Hands all over receivers before the ball gets there. Hence, less scoring.😊
Im done 50 dollar parking 18 dollar 24oz of beer 250 for decent tickets now i got to pay to watch on tv
Where is Delano?? Let me guess...he got axed for not agreeing with jason!
Colin sucks the NFL sucks the NBA sucks the WNBA sucks with the exception of Caitlin Clark!!!
The cake should be baked before it's served.
He’s a schill. The product is terrible. I’m all for defense but this isn’t because of dominate defense. Flags, flags, and flags. Offensive line play especially in pass protection is abysmal. When they added that extra game AND took away the two team playoff by you added saturation to the schedule.
Butters is useless!
His little sidekick is another no it all, who never played the game………
Lol u mean jmac
The NFL is obviously a shitty product and no longer worth watching anymore!
This was a sport that I used to love to watch and follow with a dedicated passion!
Today I can't follow it for more than 10 minutes! Taking out all of the physicality has ruined the natural competitive nature of the game!
What’s next, we tell MMA fighters & boxers not to hit each other too hard? As if they don’t know there will be consequences now and later in life for making those millions.
I don't trust anyone who says, "Rates of speed",
WRONG TAKE! The physical aspect of the game makes everybody STRONGER! This is no different from the NBA> Players before seldom gets hurt compared to todays ridiculous number of injuries. WHY? THE PLAYERS BECOME SOFTER THAN CAKE !!!!
Is that just an opinion or do you have facts to back it up?
The players are eating more performance enhancing drugs than ever before. Getting bigger and stronger than tendons can keep up, they also don't keep in football shape year round as rich guys and are not physically able to perform without great risk of injury due to it
Congrats for catching up to what I’ve said for a few years now. Only took you 3-4 years to catch up to me.
And now that gambling is legal it seems like there are multiple flags per play. Terrible
Colin the limousine liberal has no credibility.
Premium price for mediocre football
Once the players started getting 25+ million per year, the game turned into a trash product as business model.
I thought kick offs and punt returns were supposed to be more entertaining? I sure dont see it and it doesnt look right
This new kick off is silly , sorry it's hard to watch .
It's all the low IQs, Boring people, etc. They only want scoring, shiny new toys, etc.
I haven't watched the NFL or NBA in years it all seems scripted and fake like the wwe.
“I don’t like Defense” is code for “I’m a Bati Boi”.
I agree with him.
Colin is a radical liberal CNN watching Democrat.
All Betas and Gaytas are...
Greig has literally messed up every good thing we’ve had in the past few decades
Why do you think this product would be any different?
Where do people think these giant salaries come from?
The prices are already baked whether you and I like the product or not we’re eating the cake
That’s exactly why you have all these early injuries. You can’t just start playing game speed and strength and think you’re not going to get hurt. It’s been some crappy football. I hate it when they meddle. Just like the new kick off rule. Terrible.
