There were great players before her, which I keep hearing since watching this league, and there will be after her but she is the reason I'm now watching basketball. Love me some CC❤

No Juju hasn’t passed Clark’s 30pt freshman-sophomore record, thats false… Juju will need 8 more 30pt games this season to beat it. Clark becoming a star is a mixture of things but the main thing was because of her talent and the way she plays. she was doing things people hadn’t seen women basketballers do, she’s one of the deepest shooters in the world (men and women) hitting logo 3s consistently. she’s exciting to watch. If angel or juju went to different schools they still wouldn’t have the impact or be the star Clark was. Wish people would stop with all these comparisons and trying to force the next star… it puts pressure on these young college players. Let it happen naturally.

Exactly this. Caitlin Clark embodies the "Cinderella" story. She may not have grown up with challenges but she effectively took the hardest road. She stayed and played for a non-powerhouse school and still managed to get her team to the biggest stage despite not having all the help and talent the other powerhouse schools had in droves. She didn't end up winning it all but her journey, dedication, and passion is again, exactly what fans look for in role models. Humble, unselfish, respectful, and driven. Combined those traits with her outlandish shooting range, awareness, and basketball IQ you have yourself an easy fan favorite for any team, in any basketball league.

I clearly see that CC has a level of skill above any player in women's basketball, past or present. But what you are saying is nonsense. "Average 3 point distance' isn't a real stat or metric. That's fairytale nonsense. That type of stuff is largely why there may be harsh criticism of CC fans. Caitlin Clark's ball handling, passing, and yes, her 3 points hooting shooting abilities are done at a significantly higher level of skill control than any other female we've seen in basketball. There are star players in the WNBA who stumble and lose control of the ball for no reason at all. Players also miss uncontested layups all the time. Watching WNBA games can be hard because of the lack of skill and control. This is what separates and makes Caitlin Clark so different. No doubt there are other players who can score at the same or higher rate than CC, but they do not play the game with the same degree of skill. It doesn't come down to measuring stats for stats with Caitlin. She dribbles, passes, and shoots with a far superior level of skill.

However, I still think people want to talk about any factor that is ancillary or mythical as opposed to the "real" reason Caitlin is the singular superstar in the history of WBB. It's playing style... plain and simple. There are other moving parts/events that helped her spark grow, but her audience grew her fresh/soph years as videos started getting shared on social media showing her bombing from 30-35 feet. Then you watch and realize she plays like no one else. It attracts those of us who migrate toward star/unique players in sports we may otherwise not watch. There were a lot of "great" WBB players prior to Caitlin Clark. There will be a lot of great ones to follow. It isn't just her "greatness" that made her The One. It is her entertainment value.

spot on analysis Jason. actually perfect on the hometown angle.

  • @ondray29
    @ondray29 23 години тому

    1) Caitlin Clark is the best thing to hit the WNBA since its inception.
    2) Most of that was due to the wave she brought with her from The University of Iowa.
    3) Most of that build up was due to the rivalry she had with Angel Reese at LSU. Most people in the media cannot or simply will not admit it, but the rivalry was built on the racial dynamics of American culture. Still to this day, people won't just come out and say it, but Magic and Bird was about race and the NBA survives today because the American people love this reoccurring American race struggle. Once the pair moved to the WNBA, Clark stuck to the script and wowed fans as did Bird in the 80's, but Reese proved that she was not able to hold up her role as Magic in the script.
    4) Whitlock is not just wrong about JuJu, his own logic makes no sense. Like Jordan, Magic, Bird, and Clark; JuJu is a hometown hero who chose a local college to play basketball. You can't minimize her choice because it doesn't fit your narrative.
    5) JuJu will mostly likely be a more accomplished college player than Clark and all the things the referenced writer said about JuJu being better than Clark physically is true.
    6) Will this translate to the WNBA? This we don't know, but JuJu Watkins is an unbelievably likeable character; more than I've seen from almost any pro athlete since Shaq. People who know very little about JuJu want to see her win.
    7) She will not likely have the appeal to white fans the same way Clark does but I believe the two of them in the league together will carry the WNBA to the next level if the executives get out of the way and let it happen.

Born and raised in Indiana and Even I'm glad Caitlin Clark stayed in Iowa as I live my B1G schools. Of course, I'm as Purdue fan first and foremost but, when it comes playoff time, I'm rooting all B1G schools, unless they play Purdue. With Clark staying at Iowa, it even made it to Indiana as she was that big of a star in high school.

I think that she will not be overshadowed by any of the coaches you mentioned. The reason being, she is not a manufactured superstar, her rise is organic because of her unique talent.

Ju Ju is not as good an athlete as CC. She's a Carmelo Anthony type of scorer. Why can't you criticize CC for lack of temperament, Jason? You criticize others for this.

Did this player break records both in NCAA & WNBA? Have millions of fans? Signed multi million dollar endorsements in different sports?or an international superstar?....if not then she's just an ordinary player and Caitlin Clark is GOAT!! No debate really!😂😂😂

Jason good analogy about how to travel the road to greatness, but one thing that is also necessary is the intangible ingrediant, passion that innate quality that isn't taught but somehow acquired through one's journey in seeking ones truth of life. It's like that age old wisdom saying "You can lead a horse to water, but you can' make him drink". Caitin Clark has that in spades.

Theres some false statments here. Paige was the number one player in that class from the day they were 9th graders. Paige was considered by far the best player in that class for years. Paige was national freshman of the year and college player of the year her freshman year in college. Then paige got hurt multiple times which forced the media to have to look for another face to put out front of womans college ball. Jason also needs to do more research before opening his mouth. Angel was also ranked ahead of CC in high school.

Geno already committed to Paige (who was the #1 hs recruit.). Geno didn’t want to recruit CC because they were similar players. Geno also did not like her on the court antics. CC would not have had the freedom to play her style which she developed while she was in college. It all worked out for the best.

I never paid any attention to golf until Tiger Woods started dominating, then I found myself watching the telecasts and hoping to see him sporting his red shirt on Sundays. I never paid any attention to WNBA before CC. I do so because she elevated a mid-tier team and took them on her shoulders, rather than stepping in line at a power program. I love the skill check of the far shot. Any grandmother has a chance of making a few shots from 3 feet, but athletes of all levels will have problems making it from 30.

Im a CC fan but I think Juju will be over all better because of her athleticism but JUJUs path was much much easier where her greatness didn’t come with hate like CC so JUJU doesn’t know the pressure CC has had to overcome come. ITS GOING TO BE FUN TO WATCH THOUGH

JuJu is a better athlete and she is a better one on one defender. Caitlin is better at EVERYTHING ELSE. JuJu is horribly inefficient on the college level. She's not a good ball handler at all. She is an average passer.

''Better athlete.'' Based on what? Clark's a physical specimen that motors nearly 40 minutes per game while being hounded for 40 minutes a game. You have any idea how strong you have to be to launch a CC missile 75-80 feet on target? Miss me with the ''better athlete'' BS.
