Reilly passed away 8/3/2022 at the age of 23.
I love how the mother came and try to protect her baby.

Lions sleep up to 20 hours a day! While mom and dad try to sleep the cubs have other ideas. 🦁 Notice how mom keeps watch over the cub and comes to keep the male from continuing to swat at the cub.
That is actually not really true. The idea that Lions sleep 20 hours on average is not establish in zoology scientific literature.

Thank you for sharing this with us. We enjoy our zoo here in NC & it continues to grow. I love it when Mom steps in - she knows that Dad can get a bit rough & perhaps injure one of her babies.

I think that's actually normal male lions aren't particularly close with their Cubs or so I've heard

Male lions usually lay down all day when it’s hot. They’re lazy by default 🤷🏽♀️Lionesses do all the work. He has to preserve his energy for fighting off males

The one cub knew not to go near dad.... that was too cute... she was scared.
Although it's bad that they have to be confined so the species could be saved they could be thankful that they're not covered with biting flies like their wild brethren.

Lisa they are well taken care of. Our zoo is world renowned with some of the best natural habitats ( I think they may even be the largest in the world)...

They are actually better at the zoo because they don't have to catch their food when they are hungry. Most lions and other big cats in the wild die due to starvation. They also live longer because of vet services and even if they were free, there is no way for them to survive because they never endured the hardship that wild animals went through.
