In their world the male lion is supposed to leave and the mother will actually kick him out to do her thing. Even in human society women become very hostile when they have children and get quite unpleasant and possessive. They think they're the center of the universe.
The intensity in the mothers deep amber gold eyes as she emits those low grunts and snarls is captivating, I don't quite know why it is that I am so fascinated and drawn to Lioness's, I feel it could be awe at how tactful, clever and powerful they are when stealthily seeing out a hunt, to then seeing these incredible apex predatorial killing machine being ever so gentle, attentive and protective toward their cubs. This interaction was wonderful to see. Grandmother checking up on her own 'babies' as they preside over their own little ones.The fathers are doing their best to prove themselves it seems, they seem to understand that the nomadic attack has put the lioness's on edge and the reception would be all but a hostile one had they chosen to directly approach which if they really wanted to, they could, however they have chosen a safe distance, beautiful boys too, I do wonder if this is the same Mohawk that was sadly shot a few years back near a local village? it caused quite a controversial uproar (no pun intended). I may have to watch the series Big Cat Country and find out for myself.

Its interesting how I can PLAINLY see what this beautiful lioness was saying. She saw the fathers and her movements and expression said quite plainly "You are NOT welcome near my cubs" and they were just chilling and keeping their distance. Then, Granny comes to see her grandchildren and Mom is completely relaxed and affectionate and allows Grandma to come near the babies and join them,
absolutely love filming lions. Many times I find myself sitting with them for hours with nothing happening but when something happens! it's always a pleasure filming!

Lion family are so amazing to watch! They are full of personalities and characters! "The Punks", the cubs' fathers are well behaved too as they kept good distance and patiently waited. Lioness are such wonderful mothers!!
