Awesome bass player, the man who inspired me to go out and buy a bass and learn to play. Dreamtime Live at the Lyceum was the first album I learned to play end to end. I was usually very knackered by the end of it!
phuck...that bass player is one hell of a talented guy...what a perfect rhythm section with that excellent drummer. bloody awesome guitar player with a cool haircut too
RIP Nigel it has been 20 years since you left 4/1/2012 us I still think you are one of the best drummers all time in this song you out shine Ian, Billy and Jaime its to bad there is not enough from you with your band.
Para mi una de las mejores canciones de la banda que amo...no hay un viernes sin escuchar esta canción,vuelvan a la ARGENTINA para disfrutar un show indiscutible como siempre!!!!!
The Astbury/Duffy/Stewart/Preston line-up was always The Cult at their best - Mark Brzezicki did a fantastic job of drumming on Love and Les Warner's work on The Manor Sessions is great, but I feel Ian and Billy made a huge mistake in getting Rick Rubin to dumb down Peace in order to make Electric. : (
It's only a huge mistake if you don't like Electric, but you can still enjoy the Peace album regardless. Compare them without prejudice and it is clear that one is cluttered and unfocused, one is definitely not. Has nothing in any way to do with dumb, unless of course, you don't like Electric.
Preston is really good, but i prefer Les Warner, cos of his rythmic bass drum and snare combinations. But the bass player is great, slapping was rather rare in 80s, so I respecc.
@@JonathanRingo One could also say that one was full of passion and bombastic, the other was very dry and thinly. IMO a mix of both styles would've made a perfect album.
Billy Duffy = Guitar God - if it weren't for him, I'd never have given up the money for my first car and bought a Gretsch white falcon (his guitar in this video) Jamie's bass-playing was always so smooth and, especially in the early days (death cult/dreamtime) had some great fill-playing - having played guitar in Ritual, it probably came naturally. On that note, I heartily advise checking them out; a sorely forgotten but great early goth band :)
Ian was no wannabe! He is unique and he knew his voice was unique! Eventually...although he did admit on an earlier interview he wanted to sound like Janis Joplin 🤦♂️🤦♀️🤷♂️🤷♀️ something I will never understand!
Too right! This is fantastic!! Everything just turned to steriotipical cock rock, after the Love album. So much style at this time. So much spirit!!! It's magical in its essence. Short lived brilliance
Not everybody likes all eras of The Cult. The Southern Death Cult cassette from '82-83, Dreamtime, Love, Electric, and Sonic Temple are all favourites of mine, and The Cult has a few good tracks on it as well. My taste in music just shifted a bit, and i haven't really dug anything they've done since the early 90's. For anyone to say "anything after Love is shit" is idiotic. You may not like it, but it's not "shit"... Broaden your minds.
Notice the bruise on Astbury's right cheek? Legend has it that Nigel Preston knocked him out during a rehearsal a few days earlier. This must have been about their last TV appearance with Preston, 'cause its just before they recorded "She Sells Sanctuary", and by the time they shot the video for that he was out of the band. Great drummer. RIP.
Jamie on bass and nigel on drums are bang on, thats power and passion, wish they'd done more with this perfect line up..but at least they did this and its brilliant, and 83rd dream, and spiritwalker... Etc
Nigel Preston for The Cult is just like Keith Moon was for The Who!!! Both talented in their own genre yet self destructive as well. RIP Nigel and Keith, u r both dearly missed 😔
It´s incredible... How can they sounds better way than in their own record?? The Cult must be some kind of musical genius or something!!! My very best favourite band ever!!!
@ElectricLabel A question, I know that Preston was dead in a car accident, when his car crashes against a light pole or something... He abandoned the band before that? Thanks
Peek-A-Boo my honey bear...... Wonder why your name is reading Durrutti here ? Says comment was left 17hours ago ???? Oh the silly YT. I love you my prince. My Honey Bear.
Their Electric album was first called Peace and had a completely different feel to it (much more like their Love album) before Rubin came along and made it into what we all know today as Electric.
They didn't go straight to metal. Their Electric album was first called Peace and had a completely different feel to it (much more like their Love album) before Rubin came along and made it into what we all know today as Electric.
Can't get enough of this version the cult are criminally underated
This particular performance was a showcase for Nigel Preston and Jamie Stewart. One of my favorite rhythm sections from this era for sure!!
*_Their best lineup..., at the peak of their prime..._*
Wish they'd still play this live. The bass and the drums are amazing
Played it recently during the Death Cult shows 😉
@@fredjee ...but without Nigel's (R.I.P.) drum, it's not the same!
Absolute banger of a track from a great debut album
One of my favourite bass lines, great work Mr Jamie Stewart.
Awesome bass player, the man who inspired me to go out and buy a bass and learn to play. Dreamtime Live at the Lyceum was the first album I learned to play end to end. I was usually very knackered by the end of it!
Ele é um baixista incrível.
Gosto muito das linha de baixo do Mr Jamie.
love how he got that slap sound with a pick, like Eric Avery did/does so well
phuck...that bass player is one hell of a talented guy...what a perfect rhythm section with that excellent drummer. bloody awesome guitar player with a cool haircut too
I really like the "post punk/tribal" drumming of Nigel Preston, a very talented drummer!
I agree
Awsum group of guys forum the eights.. great vocals... drums... and guitars..
What a shame that he took too much drugs. That's why they kicked him from the band. And well, he died at age of 27.
Mr Scientific Close. He was 28. Just three days before his 29th birthday.
Dotcanada Tragic. I met him at a Killing Joke gig in Newcastle not that long before he died.
Preston was a so brilliant drummer...
2:49 what a pleasure to see Nigel Preston at his best, what an awesome drummer
Nigel Preston really was an ace drummer wasn't he.
He was!!!!
One of the best!
Yes! Unique 💕 R.I.P Nigel
The best!!

brilliant track , love that bass line
Para mi una de las mejores canciones de la banda que amo...no hay un viernes sin escuchar esta canción,vuelvan a la ARGENTINA para disfrutar un show indiscutible como siempre!!!!!
They sounded so good live back then.
I stood next to Ian on stage Finsbury Theatre singing can't believe he let me 1985/6 , amazing talented people 🧡💓🎻❣️

@@SpliffieBee that mix of both styles cerebral and heavy became Sonic Temple (or even Ceremony)
Wow! Ian's voice is so powerful in this performance! Blows my mind and the cobwebs away! Love these guys! Sad about Nigel 😥 R.I.P Nigel
No lip syncing here, folks. This ain't TOTP.
this is mad brilliant for a live performance....love the Cult then and always. What a golden youtube find this morning. Bravo Jim90290
Great! I had this on VHS and played it until the tape wore out. This video is part of who I am.
Are you going to see Death Cult? First time singing RJ in 30 years. ua-cam.com/video/zfKutRo1BIo/v-deo.htmlsi=me7ORWL62ecbuE3f

Too right, thats a class bass line.
Fantastic in so many ways... wow. Every band member is heard loud and clear here. Love the whole damned thing!
The best drums that I heard between all songs that I like
fucking awesome live version.
Before Ian wanted to be Jim Morrisson, he wanted to be Adam Ant ; )))))))))))
Great performace of a great early song.
Ian was no wannabe! He is unique and he knew his voice was unique! Eventually...although he did admit on an earlier interview he wanted to sound like Janis Joplin 🤦♂️🤦♀️🤷♂️🤷♀️ something I will never understand!
what a fucking FANTASTIC song
Preston fucking awesome as usual god bless
Great drummer!
The Cults best sound. They shoulda never changed style.
Agreed.
Too right! This is fantastic!! Everything just turned to steriotipical cock rock, after the Love album. So much style at this time. So much spirit!!! It's magical in its essence. Short lived brilliance
BS. Thanks they has evolved they still are here here
Preston and Stewart were an awesome Rhythm section.....NOT to mention Duffy's genius

Great band of transitions. They’re geniuses.
love this song. the cult evolved into many facets, sounds and incarnations....all of which kicked arse. they would never stay stagnate.

Preston's stricks thru past me at a Ritz gig. Let someone else have em. 1986 I think. Super tight, dynamite! He is a great loss :(
Les Warner came after.
Cracking tune!!!!!!!!! Quality live too.
should of stuck with Nigel Preston and saw him through what was obviously a bad time. They were never as good after that
R.I.P Nigel...
Jamie was a key part to this group, just see when he left they were finished.
Your gonna hurt yourself reaching so far out on that limb. He was good though.
Great performance!
Thx for posting - been hanging out to see this clip since I wore out the vhs tape 10 years ago!
Best - Cult - Vid - Ever!
2:49 preston is soul bearing
White Falcon!!! Would make a great band name...
amazing...
Looking through the comments it seems like this video is turning into Nigel Preston's obituary LOL

Great band
really exquisite this music.

Good quality thanks
wooooooauuuuu thank!!
It's actually spelled "Ressurection Joe" on purpose
Best thing they did as The Cult.
Ian is so damn goodlooking❤
Beat lineup ever. Losing Jamie and the original drummer was tragic.
Nigel Preston a Great drummer
@jim90290 its the whistle.
Brain fryingly good!

Ótima pegada

It´s incredible... How can they sounds better way than in their own record??
The Cult must be some kind of musical genius or something!!!
My very best favourite band ever!!!
Magic
Nigel and Jamie were the spirit of the Cult, but they weren't valorized. Ian and Billy had a big ego to let them shine.
kling khreeshn kling
Parece que o guns n roses copiou o arranjo em rocket queen!
Falo isso paras os fãs deles ''alienados'' desde 90 ( quando virou moda após o filme ) kk belo ponto de vista... Sweet Child O'Mine... então kkkkk

Funky old Cult
what's that in ian's hair?
😊😀😁😂😃👑👑👑🎩
I agree, everything after love sucked except for a couple jams on electric. They were a great band when dreamtime, love etc.
Their Electric album was first called Peace and had a completely different feel to it (much more like their Love album) before Rubin came along and made it into what we all know today as Electric.
WICKED TRACK
The Cult were great in their time. However, everything after Love sucks; they lost they mojo when they went straight metal.
They didn't go straight to metal. Their Electric album was first called Peace and had a completely different feel to it (much more like their Love album) before Rubin came along and made it into what we all know today as Electric.
The fact you would describe it that way only shows how narrow your interests are, not to even mention the arrogance.
