Coming from a Scirocco R the M140 feels great, I have no complaints with it in stock form, perfect daily and comfortable for long journeys.
*car goes sideways*
Ricky: “woah see that, we just went sideways”
Howling 😂 this guys a legend
ricky, next time you jump in this, press the traction button once and it'll put you into comfort traction mode.Everything remains in comfort, but the valves are strangely opened, you're allowed more slip to the rear than sport mode and the power delivery is smoother/less laggy than sport. It's basically a comfort version of sport+
He's had a 'couple' of BMW's before lol
Smashing the throttle on crap, cold, damp British roads, RWD, 340hp, that’s what you’re going to get. The car is a peach.
just bought one Ricky and I absolutely love it. Interesting you said it didn't feel that quick - maybe it's coming from a 207 GTI and not a GTR which gives you the perspective!!
The B58 lump is going to be legendary
Love your channel rickki absolutely awesome much love from nz keep up the good work
Great content as always bro ! Car looking sick gunna be nutz when u finished with it ! Still can’t believe ur getting rid of the hellcat man ! (Dream car) who ever wins that is one lucky person !!!! 🤞
Trying to explain how floaty it feels and how much this car throws you around at speed to my pals does my head in 😂! I love it tho, b58 gang 😎
Is any solution apart the obvious like suspension bushes etc I’m currently on bird suspension with stage 3 gc+ turbo with dorch stage 3 pump 600+ but I struggle with high speed stability
car is floating from left to the right unexpectedly is very difficult and extremely not comfortable to drive straight, my other 535d stage 3 I can drive with close eyes 260km/h…
@@pavelkwasniewski192 which tires do you use ?
@@TheTekkcrafter hello, continental sp6 all around 245/35/19 275/30/19
@@pavelkwasniewski192 oh ok, nvm. I just heard something about Michelin pilot sports being weird for this car.
@@pavelkwasniewski192 probably need subframe bushings at your level, I doubt inserts would cut it. The bushings would securely locate the rear axle to the car, giving you a more direct connection and feeling of what the rear of the car is doing, especially at speed. I’d also recommend a limited slip differential if you don’t have one, they go hand in hand.
Watching from Ghana I love everything you do and all your cars peace I wish I could win something from you LLF 😍
Ricky driving it like he stole it....Top vid mate, love the channel and the passion, keep going fella 💪👌
This was a sick video icl yess ricky I’m looking forward to this build 😁🥶
Bought mine on my 19th birthday and had it for over a year it’s amazing. Doesn’t fail to excite me when I start it up
Definitely will be following along for some idear to upgrade my m240i iv just picked up this weekend I totally understand where you are coming from with how it feels 100%
Looks really good 👍 needs the bonnet aligning that gap at the front though 👍😀
Absolute beast can't wait to see what you do with it
Love my shadow edition manual m140. I have a bcs catback exhaust on the way. Just saving up for the mega expensive diff, but definitely needs it
My dads got the 135 (2014, n55 I think?) and I thought the chassis was a bit crap from a performance point of view, but it's perfect for him as he's old and just cruises about in it. I'd love one as a daily, but personally I'd just enjoy it for what it is rather than try make it into an m2
Plenty fun when stock for a daily
Is that you son - cheeky sod!
Love the build so far!
Think you're right about the tyres. Great, honest review.
Nice ride Rick. Good to see you buy and modify "normal" cars. Super looks
Great video! Although I’d disagree with the comment about this being an affordable car for young people, especially with the true average salary outside of London being £19k - £21k a year in the UK.
Okay let’s say if your priorities are wrong, then it’s an achievable car
Absolute machine, so identical to mine. What exhaust system does this have? Is it a ppf/opf car Ricky?
I've got a three door m140 and a 7 month old and it's awful trying to get him in and out the car. I still love the car though there brilliant driven at 8 10ths as apposed to balls out everywhere.
Ricky’s comments are spot on as usual, clumsy is the exact word to describe the handling in stock form. I run a manual M240i and in standard form, whilst I loved the engine the chassis did not impress at all but it’s an excellent base for upgrades. I’ve put an LSD and suspension on it as well as M3 control arms and lower offset wheels to finish it off. Car handles so much better now, so much more focused and direct. Never driven an M2 so I can’t compare it but the car now delivers on that small performance car promise BMW marketed it with. Just need some subframe reinforcement and I think I’ll have a real weapon in my hands. For the money these things are unbeatable.
I did the LCA and diff also, now I know where the back and front of the car is, it's a complete game changer in confidence with the car. Just wish i got a manual, potentially trade in this year and get rid of my auto 🥲
@@1993j nah the auto is valid. I’m at stock power and unless I’m on perfect form I’ll can’t keep up with the turbo all wheel drive hatches. It feels pretty cool to shift myself though and makes the car seem more oldschool than it really is.
You’re absolutely right about the control arms, so much feel along with sharper more positive turn in, zero understeer on the road and proper self centering.
Is it the same story for the M240i?
What's it likely to cost to get the all done?
@@ARDEN440i I’ve heard the M240i does handle a little better but the cars are largely the same. Both need a lot of work before that M badge starts to make any sort of sense.
Is the handling on this 140i same as 340i,440i? Assuming they all have an open diff?
Loved watching this video bro even though I’m fully stage 1 and completely happy at that 🤣👌
Tyres! In the UK we all have summer tyres and wonder why the roads stop in snow! Get some winter boots for sub 10 degrees
Ricky, I see your driving the 140 in traction or DSC OFF mode - unless you've got an LSD please be careful, that amount of torque through an open diff without systems on ends one way.
An open diff is actually safer than an LSD in terms of not spitting you off the road.
Harder to control than an LSD when it lets go BUT safer as it doesent send all its power to both wheels so you tend to still have one rear wheel with traction.
I have the LSD, it steps out EASIER in my opinion than open diff, its just easier to control it.
Bought one 6 weeks ago, already had the adaptive chassis and suspension so got both braces, spacers and eibach springs.
Handles so much better at high speeds and feels a lot more connected.
Very unruly out of the box so make sure youve got a couple grand to throw at it to make it more usable.....loving the ride now though!
What's the opinion on 340i in terms of balance and losing composure, I've only driven 340i curious to how it compares?
just got my m240i same issues car wanders at speed, mines spacered and got eibachs on the way, MPSS need swapping for some Ps4s , stage 2 450 ish
Had mine around 3 weeks love it cracking car. Totally understand the body movement, came from a fiesta st180 (modified) and handled unreal with the setup. Gonna have to be careful with this beast. Brentacre wouldnt insure me also unless ive drove the car for a year due to the amount wrote off 🙃.
100% man I recently went from a ZR 160 to a 370z as my second car.it’s a beast but with cars like ours I would recommend just to stay within your limit and learn the car and that will help you improve so much especially when your at your limit 😂
Love the video ricky its me "ARMZ" your a true car enthusiast reviewer 💯
Your new M140I looks like a lot of fun 🔥🔥
You can buy a genuine BMW brace heard it improves the handling. Also poly bushes, stabiliser kit and coil over kit should sort it
Saw pics of a m140i with a M2 body that looked incredible
What tyres are you running? If it's the stock MPSS get shot of them and get some PS4 fitted, much better.
Cuz your a fucking LEGEND IVE BEEN WAITINN FOR THIS ❤️💯‼️😭 STAY BLESSED MAN
Picked mine up today. Best car I've owned 👌
I get mine next week 😃
Car looks sick outdoors man👌🏿
Just bought one of these. So excited to pick it up on the weekend 😮
This should be an interesting build... can't wait 👌🇿🇦🔥
What spacer size do you run ?
best value for money hatchback about! Ricky defo need the wavetrac LSD to sort the sideways movement!
Such a popular car right now but you can see why! Cheap to buy and so strong even when running mad power!!
Great car sure it's going to go well when you're finished with it...👍🏻
Ricky the intro music and stuff you use can you not put a link up to them.. 👍🏻😎
Sideways Sid rings a bell in this video, he would make great content with this beast
What is the area you drive around in your vids?
Had an M140i for a year before I traded it in for a GR Yaris! As much as I love the GR.....I still miss my M140i
Nice motor bro, for some people thats a finished product for you, its just starting
Now he wants a dsg box🤣🤣... nice review Ricky
yh mines the same some lightweight wheels and bushings n coilovers do sort it out a little still feels something missing tho 😔
Yo the reason you are going side ways is you need wheel alignment. I had the same problem. One advice only do it through kwik fit. They have the best wheel alignment machine the "HUNTER". Don't go any other company I learn that mistake. If you have any mis alignment between the front and back wheels it messes up the the THRUST alignment.
Is it all snappy because it doesn’t have a LSD or wouldn’t that matter?, I’m considering a m135i which I found in my price range, my previous car was a Audi Quattro so my driving habits are going to be very different
What chemical do you put for the car to dry out faster
Beautiful mate
My 435d X Drive has no slip and is extremely quick off the mark, it has taken some M's. Rear wheel is superb compared to front wheel drive as my ST would just spin in the wet.
Was that golf r stock? If so very impressive from the golf if you ask me
Were did you bought the carbon interior?
Yes looks powerful man would be perfect daily
Set of cobra nogaro seats would sort the seating issue, I'd love a pair for mine.
The championship edition is the top of the range for this model, 30 only ever made, although 3 have been written off from what I gather !
Not a fan of Schnitzel cars but that is a nice practical looking ride
Do I get an m140i auto or a seat Leon cupra 290 auto?
I thought Ricky was ditching the Chanel. I will(have) like and comment to support.
Yo, I just put down a deposit on one today!!!
I've gone manual, as I'm stubbornly old school and there's nae stop-start traffic on my commute. 😜
After intake and exhaust, an LSD will be priority; along with subframe bushes and a set of B14's.
Great vid as always man 🤜🤛
I need that one next to my bike in my garage 🤤🔥🔥
Ive just been in a stock one of these and they are scary quick so can't imagine how this feels
Good content, very informative not just talking about speed.
I was 19 when I copped mine! Absolutely in love with it!!
How much was insurance? I'm 21 and I can't find any quotes under 4k I feel like crying 😂
@@zafer7368 about 6.5k bro
Definitely a lot of it is tyres; I had the same problem. Switched to pilot sport 4, miles better grip, don't get the rear end twitch anymore.
Agreed, just put PS4's on my m2 and the difference in traction compared to the MPSS is night and day. 4's are best tyres I've had!
No shadow edition wheels. Nice mods. Be interested how many miles for 26k??
Why do people not get a manual?
Nice one Ricky
Open diff causes the rear to shift power as it programmed to use the rear brakes as on 'ediff'
Anybody with adaptive dampers on these and changed to Bilsteins B8’s, did you find it made much of a difference? Other than the worst surfaced roads mine feels pretty solid apart from traction at the rear lets go under acceleration. I’ve never felt this floaty sensation moving about. Debating whether it’s worth the change for adaptive but, I hear for passive it’s night and day. Stage 2+ manual 3 door, loving it! Power flex bushes and the underbody brace should make a big difference I’m told.
I'll start with an LSD and go from there
Get the adaptives programmed out, they are way better as they end up in a mid position between comfort and sport which suits the spring rate.
@@philiphawkins4684 interesting… 👀 I’ll need to code them out for changing the suspension anyways so I’d try that in the way. I don’t find the sport mode too harsh on all urn the worst country roads though.
@@a20axf I change to a set of bilstein b14s that why I had the programmed out, drove around for a week before fitting up the b14s and I regret going for them.
@@philiphawkins4684 yeah went for a drive yesterday with a couple of mates, one with an M5 and another with a GTR. Didn’t have any issues other than a very slight amount of novelty can tell that brave will sort out. I’ll maybe pop lowering springs on but don’t think I need the Bilstein B12 kit tbh. Maybe if I start tracking it but, probably unlikely.
Fit an lsd, underbody brace, B5 suspension kit and it will be sorted.
The M140i's are definitely uniquely torqy. Also like your spec alot, face lift and all gives that nice sport look. Good buy Riki
b58 has a 90mm stroke which is quite a lot
@@joshbriggsDayZBeast even bigger its 95 mm stroke, 82 bore. I didn't realize it was that long stroke of a motor.
Also the stock turbo spools up so damn fast that there's torque nearly everywhere
@@papa_pt jesus thats basically the same as a 1.9tdi vw engine which is very good because of it long stroke
@@joshbriggsDayZBeast it's surprising because the B58 feels so willing to rev out near the top for that long a stroke . I'm still on n54
@@papa_pt there good engines the n54, seen some builds in America there mental. Off topic but Im gonna be going for a turbo 2442cc stroker motor air-cooled in my 61 VW beetle 300whp
Is the hood not same colour as the car or something looks different
Looking forward to this project. Might get myself another m140i after watching this 👀
Got a stage 3 for sale if your intrested. It's on Ebay

@@GHETTOENTERTAINMENTZ keeps getting removed
I have a 2017 M240i stage 1 and it’s impossible to get the power down on wet (or even slightly wet) roads. It’s a lot better on a warm dry day…… but still misbehaves at times. Guess I need an LSD
ProTrack One’s matt Black, LSD, V Brace, M4 arms and a proper KW Clubsport coilovers
Nice car love the shadow edition
At 19 a lot would lose their life
If I owned this car at 19 I would not be here typing this comment. I am 37 btw lol
I was 19 when I bought it (November), I’m 20 now and as long as your not being stupid it’s an easy car to drive
@@JM-pl7vn yeah people just assume just because someone is young that means they are stupid and will crash, dumb assumption really
@@JM-pl7vn How much was insurance if you don’t mind me asking?
How does a 19 year old afford this
Phenomenal car. I wish I could get one in the US.
Fantastic, that'll be my M140i insurance going up again this year.
Cry
love how honest you are even with your own motors, make me laugh abit actually. i had a m135i with 400bhp, no lsd, i hit a tiny bump in the road. (you couldnt even see it) it upset the car that much it snapped sideways at 110mph on a slight bend, luckily got it back but hit the kerb and bent the lower arm, i couldve died quite easily, made me realise these cars are abit sketchy. but in a way fun because you gotta be on the ball
Stick the reckless driving to the track
@@ItzD3fW1sH was a clear road and perfect weather I also drive on the road atleast once a week so I know it well, never even noticed the bump in any other car
Car was lowered and was on ps4’s, but we all take these risks being petrol heads, most of us ain’t got time to be doing track days lol
@@OhLozaH going round a bend at 110mph on a public road is sketchy not the car 🤦♂️
That’s because the stock dampers are wank. They lose composure very fast over bumpy roads. You have to be careful on the type of roads you full send on unless you upgrade your stock dampers with a Blistein upgrade
I had mine done by Tom wrigley. 👌🏼
Your talking about m cars my mate has got an e36 m3 and he lowered it slightly and the thing skips across the a2 massively it’s scary when I drove it!!! It was really bad I think it might of had spacers too 🤷🏻♂️😳
Whats the name of the song that plays at the end ??
man i would of never been able to afford one of these at 19 y/o, im 24 now and drive a F32 435D, quite happy with it.
The m3 crank hub spin out is this the case with the m140i to
Nope
Really want one of these but it's no Megane RS :(
Sick spec , wouldn't mind this in a raffle. Driven one they savage in the dry let alone wet lol
Did they ever do xdrive in this model? I'm looking for one with 4 wheel drive.
Only in left-hand drive.
Anyone got a stage 2 manual car, ive got a 435d atm and zf box is great but it bores me to death, are the manuals substantially slower?
I have a stage 3 auto for sale.
Looks fire! Im looking into getting one before they disappear 😢
Come on Ricky bro 😎
She’s looking sharp very sharp…:) 🥂
I’ve A M135i and it’s exactly the same handling wise , with the open diff it seems to kick out whenever it likes
Under brace and rear subframe bushes made a world of difference the rear actually feels connected now
LOOOOL M135i ahahahah sit down sir.
What bushes did you use
My mrs M135i came with the brace and I fitted power flex bushes, it better but it’s still floaty and kicks out. Granted it’s running more power but still not very confidence inspiring.
