    Shane mate do you use thinners on the AK base flesh, does it airbrush as good as tamiya. Cheers, great videos, I learn a lot from them. Keep up the good work.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 років тому +1

      Junglelands for brush painting I just use straight up tap water and vallejo thinners for airbrushing. It sprays well in thin layers but how it compares to tamiya I can't say

    Great video. One question - how do you fix the figure to the base. Is it glue or do you use putty. I always find it difficult to hold the figure with tweezers while trying to paint. Thanks.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 років тому

      thanks mate,
      In this case it was superglued to a bottle cap and then poster tacked to a cork,normally I just place a paperclip into the foot of the figure and glue it place then push into the cork

    Great video. Thanks Shane. Just out of interest how do you attach your models to the bottle top?

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  2 роки тому +1

      thanks mate! So to fix my figures I just use a small dab of superglue on the feet which does the job well

    Great video mate. But this old marine has a silly question. What's your method to keep your figure attached to your bottle. I tend to drink way too much coffee and need a stable platform. Thank you and semper fi

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  8 років тому

      +Jeff haller Hey Jeff, normally I either just superglue them to a bottlecap or drill a hole a hole into the foot of the figure and glue a paperclip to hold it in place

    Great and awesome videos. Question for you about the brushes. You use Winsor & Newton which series? Cotman 111 Round, 222 Designers or 333 Rigger? Thanks

    Thank you so much for making this video and others. I am new to painting figures, and this video has helped me tremendously. I would like to know some more about the brushes you use. What is the difference in the length of the bristles? I would also like to know how you mounted the figure temporarily for better ease of working? Thanks again for the tutorial.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  8 років тому +1

      +John Richards Hey John glad that the videos are of help :) as to answer your question the brushes I use are from the Winsor and Newton Cotman range, these are very good brush for aryclic work though they seem to hold up alright when using oils too. As for sizes I tend to use sizes from 00 up 4. They do brushes with fine points and long bristles I often have one or two of them in sizes of 1-2 for doing detail work or to reach tricky areas :)
      As mounting the figure for painting there serveral ways to go about this and they all work fine, its all down to what feels most comfortable to you. You use a pin vice and simply drill into the figures foot and use the pin vice as a handle, or you can insert a paper clip instead to the drilled out hole. Other methods I use are supergluing the figure to a plastic bottle cap which works fine too :)
      hope this was of help to you :)

      +Shane Smyth Thanks for answering my questions. You have helped me a great deal. My figure and especially the face painting is just in the beginner stage, and it looks it. LOL Your videos and answers will help along with practice. I love model building and came back to it 30 years after a break from my youth. Thanks again Shane :)

      John Richards firstly welcome back to the hobby my friend :) I'm so glad that your enjoying my videos and that their proving useful :) As for figure painting the best tip I can give anyone is just enjoy yourself and the enjoy the journey :)
      happy modelling my friend and if there's anything I can help you with video wise just ask and see what I can do :)

      +Shane Smyth If you superglue the figure to a bottlecap, how is it removed afterward? Do you just apply pressure until the bond snaps and then clean up the boot bottom with a sanding stick?

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  8 років тому

      John Richards yep thats exactly it, superglue give a clean break when snapped and just a little sanding to clean up and a touch of paint on the boots and your good to go :)

    Thanks for this tutorial..is very helpful. But I have a question..have you tried Tamiya brand paints for this work?
    I have tried them but they tend to 'clump' a lot and tried many diff. thinners but still, not liking it much... thanks

      El Diablo I hope you find these paints as good as I did, I believe Vallejo and Andrea both have similar sets of acrylics but all they more or less do the same job :)

  • @jogados

    Do you feel that the paints are chalky and coarse? I'm painting 28mm faces, I stir well, I use a wet pallete, yet the effect is totally coarse and leaves a rough texture....I wanted this to work so bad, cause I need good face paint set, yet I'm not satisfied with this one....

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  4 роки тому

      AK paints do have a heavy pigment, so they need to go down in a few thin layers to reduce it as much as possible

    • @jogados
      @jogados 4 роки тому

      @@longlance67 I've tried that, I went with an airbrush and vallejo's airbrush flow improver, while the result is somewhat better, it is still grainy. Then I saw somebody mentioned that they use Mr. Color leveling thinner, I tried that too, while it does work, it makes the paint very sticky, and I'm reluctant to apply that with the brush, let alone airbrush. And again, it beats the whole purpose of wet pallete, as I won't or shouldn't put any kind of chemicals on it anyways. So far I have faced this problem with this set, British and German uniforms. I have a lot of AK sets, but I'm done. I'll switch to Life Color, I would have sooner but they're not available as AK or MIG where I'm from... I do have 4-5 theirs sets and I'm more than content. They give a smooth, lacquer-like finish, no grains.

    How do you stick the figure to the holder your using ?

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  5 років тому +1

      In this case the figure is superglued to a bottle cap which is in turn poster tacced to a wine cork , if you check out my newer videos which far better quality than this, you will see the new way I mount my figures to handles
