Katie, thanks for another great video. I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of products offered at both markets. I no longer have to wonder where I'll be purchasing my old and perhaps also some of my new favorite items when (Lord willing) I arrive in Dumaguete this spring. Again, your video was super informative and a joy to watch. Best wishes.

These major supermarkets are just 2 of the stores that offer international products here in Dumaguete City. There's also City Mall, LP Hypermart (another branch of Lee Plaza), Belcris and a few more. They sell some of the popular products in the US enough to satisfy your cravings when you need it. Looking forward to hearing from you what you think about Dumaguete when you come to stay here.

@@katies_pixels Thanks Katie. Having someone with whom to share my thoughts about the city after I've arrived, makes the trepidation of undertaking such a big move easier to bear. looking forward to sharing my views with you then.

The store looks very similar to the asian stores in the usa. I thought the chicken drumsticks would be cheaper there. Here can get 10lb bag for 59 cents a lb.

Chicken is in demand here in the Philippines hence the price. Lots of chicken dishes you can have here too. You'll see when you visit the Philippines.

Hey, a nice overview of the pricing points this gives a real feel for both the variety and a nice glance at the available international products a lot of items are on par or higher in some cases. I was shocked at the price of the various hard cheese choices but the volume of the packaging seems to be the big push to move larger quantities. Can't wait to experience this, the meats seemed a bit high but I guess you pick and choose where you want to save. I do enjoy seeing all the different products available from both the locally grown and the regionally imported foods. Thanks again for posting a practical and very useful video.

Hi mo @mo-ld6nf I just saw this video today (Feb 10, 2024) - the Title is very misleading - "HIGH PRICES WOW" - the prices are not high in Dumaguete, at least relatively speaking. One only needs to travel a little bit to discover that the POST-PANDEMIC prices are higher everywhere, in all countries - so higher prices are not a Dumaguete issue. Cost of living is a relative factor - we travelled lots in 2023 3 countries and the Philippines (we live in Negros Oriental) and it is very clear it is so much cheaper to live in Negros Oriental.
You say you that the food is cheaper away from Dumaguete - but where is "away from Dumaguete"? The smaller towns of Negros Oriengal don't have big grocery stores or the selection of the stores in the video - and there are more local ones with great foods than the two she featured.
Sure you can find some particular items cheaper - we have a fruit/vegetable stand we like to go to, and also the Valencia Sunday Market - but it isn't for the price it is for better quality fresher food. Also for example, you would never buy mangos at the grocery store she featured - higher price and not as good quality - there are many mango sellers on the sides of the roads offering fresh daily picked fruit and at a better price.
We also shop at Belcris Grocery on Silliman Avenue, which carries many items from around the world - not the lowest prices, but not so high and if you want something from home you either pay for it or you don't. They also have an amazing selection of whole meat cuts, deli meats and cheeses from around the world and you can save money by getting them to cut your pick to the size you want. For example I got an amazing imported cheese and got them to give me 100 grams, I also got a 2 kilo piece of imported rib eye steak (if you don't know for some reason Filipino beef is not good - amazing chicken and pork, but not beef) and they cut the meat into 5 equal steaks then vacuum packed each steak individually for easy freezing and eating as we needed it - that is a huge convenience and money saving option.
I hope you can visit Dumaguete and Negros Oriental soon so you can see for yourself the cost of living will be way cheaper than wherever you are living - so don't worry about claims "HIGH PRICES WOW" in Dumagute. Amping take care, Greg

@@CanadianInPhilipipnes $6.99 for 10lbs of Tender Bird chicken leg quarters right in the great ol USA in Las Vegas. That is up from the usual $5.99 price. I just bought that recently here. Her price showed it cost more there. You would think with all those chicken running around it would cost less there than in the USA.
