- Ever wondered what the effect of a heavier hammer weight would have on your FX Impact???
In this video Im testing the standard 6 gram hammer weight against two heavier hammers weighing in at 7,5 gram and 8,5 gram.
Im testing to see if there is an improvement in accuracy and the general feeling of the gun after the install. The tests are performed at 100 m.

I had the Huma heavy hammer in mine. Try setting the reg at 165 bar that gives the hammer something to strike against, then you can play with the hammer strike and go for a short crisp blow of air, this will reduce the exit turbulence I had slugs going through the same hole at 50 yards, ❤
I think that my next test will take to around that preasure, so while there I will tune it down to my usually 940 fps 🙂
For reference Im shooting the 16 gr Zan in the same setup as in the video, but with around 1000 fps. And as you say, very crisp and calm. Hammer at 1,5 😃
I agree with this statement 100% I needed extra weight in my Crown MK2 to push 27.5 to 940. And more reg pressure was a must since the plenum is pretty small, and with the hammer kit for the crown, it was way overkill heavy, I've got it down to 3.5 grams running 170 bar. I thought it would be nice not to need as much spring tension but the problem with that, is the time it takes between when you pull the trigger and when the gun fires is 4 times as long. So my advice would be to tune the weight for the slug weight you want to shoot by trying to achieve the desired velocity using the least amount of air, or the shortest amount of time opening the valve. So put the stock one in, increase the reg pressure till you actually loose velocity, then you will know your starting point for adding weight. I'm thinking something like 3-4 grams with 160-165 bar. And use enough spring so that the shot happens as quickly as possible from when you pull the trigger, so the least amount of weight necessary. it will also be way more consistent this way. I cut the tail off my weight only leaving enough for the spring to have a nice shoulder. I'd start there, then, if needed take the rest off the face. You are also dumping your plenum out completely using low reg pressure, making recharge time slower. You will be way happier tuning the weight. It will be even quieter this way also. Just my 2 cents because I've been through this.
Good shooting Viking, i have the huma 7.5 in mine, 25 cal/600mm, absolutely drills the jsb knockouts, very accurate.

Defiantly try a higher pressure and shorter strike will be interesting to see your results in that calibur I was shooting .30 and as previously mentioned was getting incredible results, for reference my gun was m3 with 700mm barrel ❤

Outstanding video. I've installed the FX Tungsten hammer & slug power kit in my .25 Maverick. It's now pushing 44gr H&N Heavies at 1090fps. 2cm groups at 100 meters. Front reg is at 180, rear at 150 bar. I'm working up to 300 meter shots (hopefully).

1090 fps with a 44grs Slug out of a Maverick and only 150bars of working pressure? Wow that's world record😂. I cannot achieve this with my Impact M3 in 25, tungsten hammer and 700mm barrel. Are you sure its not 30cal?
@@markusscholl4958I use standard hammer in my MK2 Impact 148reg 49.6gr 980fps, 165reg 49.6gr 1000fps, laser accurate.
I don't know how you achieve that power with such low reg pressure. Are your bottles nitro charged😂?

There are so many factors involved, that I just can't stop tinkering - and every time I regret changing anything. Weirdly, In case helpful to anyone, I've got a fantastic tune on my Crown mk2 for 18grain JSBs, shooting them at 950 fps. I'm running the reg at 95 bar using the 700mm barrel and Huma slug kit plus heavier hammer (although I don't use slugs). My extreme spread is a bit high at approx. 15 fps, but it doesn't seem to impact my groups. I shoot at 50 - 75 meters.

Great video! Watched a lot of them now! You should show more close up when stripping and rebuilding the gun, it’s interesting to see how different people do it.

Watching Ernest Rowe's FX Masterclass and Airbuks is very inspirering - sometimes finding myself just watching them and getting into some kind of meditative state 😂 But trying to make videos like them I failed big time, so I m leaving that to them😃
Saddly we are limited to 177 here in Denmark and getting licenced to anything bigger requires courses permits and specific places to test, so I will stick to 177 for now 🙂

That would explain the .177 content.
I had to go through the licensing process to get the fac .22 in the uk.
Bit of a faf but worth it to get out to further distances.
I fitted my new superior heavy liner yesterday and got a little testing before dark, I took the time to clock/index (turn the liner 1/4 at a time) the liner orientation so it shot at it’s lowest point to enable the greatest amount of click elevation for dialling further distances to negate the use of adjustable scope mounts.
Initial testing showed no great difference in grouping compared to the std 700mm superior liner.
More time needed to test different speeds and slugs.
I think I noticed an issue with my first reg, when taking a shot the needle goes to the set reg pressure then it slowly drops about 15 - 20 bar then settles.
I thought if it creeps, the pressure should increase not decrease.
I wonder if it’s a problem with the gauge not the reg?

The effect of new gear is mostly seen over time and by observing general consistancy, but for me the heavy liner made a big difference right after installing. But calibers are different and 177 is supposed to by the hardest to tune 😃
I dont pay attention to 1st reg at all. As long my 2nd reg is fine. 1st reg is just to take the main preasure of the 2nd. Some ppl are canseling it, but I see a great help using it. Especially when shooting at low reg preasures.

Interesting... I noticed that the heavyer hammer weights have a longer flange that will make the hammer spring more compressed. If so, some of the effect of just changing to a heavier weight is a higher hammer spring setting? Am i right?

With the light brass hammer of those 2 and my Maverick with the reg of 60 BAR or so, i still push 13 grains at 1000 FPS, and the rifle sound like a blowpipe.
I still feel that hammer are a bit too heavy, i am contemplating cutting into mine to lighting it a little.
Yes sir but why. I have fx crown and impact m3, they run flawlessly between 100-150 on regulator. Recently I received the panthers from factory it was set on 120. I was too lazy to go bring my crono, so the sound was so low, I felt no power and was seeing the pellet flying into a 20 yards target I kept on pushing regulator to its maximum. Then I got my chrono, it was giving me 630fps. While researching I read somewhere drop regulator to increase fps
I dialed it to 60 and pellet went to 910. I tried a slug it went down to 810. But it is sounding like an O ring blew up. Do you know why this is happening. BTW 3:different suppressors and still it is sounding like a gunpowder 22 pistol
When you drop reg pressure, it's easier for the hammer to open the valve both in amount of lift and duration
The higher the pressure, the more resistance there is to opening the valve
Are you using less air with the heavier weight? Obviously your settings are lower so is the air usage.
I cant say for sure. I know all the theories, but I never count my shots pr fill 🤔
@@VikingAirgunner Be a good test to carry out, I have FAC .22 M3 and obviously when you start to push the slugs at 1000fps it uses the air a lot quicker as everything is near max. But if your turning settings down and still getting the speed surely it’s using less air.
I bought the tungsten one and that thing was too much just the violence and the twang of it I couldn’t use it, so I ended up getting the huma ones and went with the heavier of the two you get and it’s prefect heavier than stock, but nowhere near as heavy as that tungsten that thing is insane haha
Do you know the exact weight of the tungsten hammer?? Ive been searching for it only to find what I all ready knew - it is 1,7 x heavier than stainless steel 🤔

@@recklessjunkie my shooting buddy bought the tungsten hammer, i think its around 16.5 grams and like you said it was way too much, no tune ability at all hardly, very violent shot cycle. it now resides in his junk drawer, we got the huma set and love them.
@@Don.E.63 Yup I felt like I was running the rifle to hard and at the time no one in the states had the huma set but then one day all of a sudden high pressure pneumatics had restocked them and I ordered one so fast haha
@@recklessjunkie im pretty sure that is where we got ours at too, im using the 7.5 and has worked good, its actually what the gun should have from the factory imo, or the 8.5 either one, take care & shoot safe and often.

Weren't the Africans using a 27gr tungsten hammer which needed a minimum 165reg to work effectively, which then put a massive stress on the valve pin, hence why a few who changed had valve pin failure?
I know that they have been using it, but I havent heard about the failure. I could imagine that a hammer this heavy would apply alot of stress to the system, so it is likely. The tungsten hammer weighs around 14-15 gram, so much heavier than the ones in this video 🙂
I dont know if it is 100 % nessecary with the tungsten hammer to get a 40 grain slug to go 1000+ fps - but when is it nessecary at all 🤔

By no means do I mean any disrespect or mean to sound like an asshole.that said I think you are totally misunderstanding the point in the heavier hammer weights.in your test you stated you were running the same reg pressure as before ..the reason to run a heavier hammer is to run higher reg pressure.higher reg pressure=heavier projectile requiring high reg pressures..there was no reason to go to heavier hammer unless you needed more velocity requiring a heavier hammer

And I agree with you completely. In 177 with a 700 mm barrel it is by no means nessecary to use a heavier hammer. Even if shooting 20 gr slugs. As you say it is only nessecary if you run out of hammer bcs of a high reg - like in a 22 with 40 gr slugs. I believe that I mention this in the video that aswell.
But what I gained from the test was that the gun feels more harmonic with the heavier hammer - even if it hits the valve with the same force when I dont change the reg. But shooting 16 gr slugs it is not nessecary at all.
When I am making videos I like to present a question and then try to come to an answer. This doesnt mean that my answer is nore correct or the only answer. I know that I am not a guru so I really appreciate when I get a comment like yours 🙂 This creates exactly the debate/learning forum that I like to have on my channel.

@@VikingAirgunner and that right there is what separates the men from the know it alls.. again I wasn't trying to be THAT ASSHOLE I'm sure you are familiar with but I watch your vids and really enjoy them and usually take something useful from them and even more so because you displayed character and open mindedness that is lacking in most nowadays..I'm a machinist and fabricator with 37 years in the machine shop engineering and prototyping small to large and by no means am I am expert on airguns but I'm definitely trying to educate myself.love your videos bro keep it up
