Thank you , that is one of the best explanations of hammer weight verses pressure verses speed and tuneability . I just got a tungsten hammer that has weights that go from about 7gr to 15 gr and was wondering where to start . Niw I know it's going to be a multiple tunes to get exactly what I need .
I have an impact m3 25 cal. 600mm I bought it to hunt small game and punch paper, at first i thought i wanted to shoot slugs and still do sometimes, it is a totally stock gun, after much frustration and several times taking dozens of shots over and over just to find the sweet spot i came to the conclusion that for me and what i do with it, its just not worth it, having to buy more and more expensive parts to add on to an already expensive gun. In stock form it will deliver 75+ fpe with a 34 grain pellet & 34 grain slugs. the range i shoot at (50 to 75) yards, i just dont need the slugs, the power kits, hammers, barrels, etc. What the m3 will do is shoot very impressive groups with pellets and can be a very quiet and powerful small game gun, once i got this mindset about it i have had great fun. Each to his own, thanks moose for another good info video!
to confirm: this morning I removed the tungsten hammer weight and light spring, replaced with the original hammer weight and spring. Lo and behold I'm still at 960 fps, have all move adjustment back in the macro wheel and my spread with 40 shots is 10...thanks for the knowledge you share
I have the Gen 1 Slug kit with standard hammer in my Impact MK2 25/700 & I have no issues shooting 25.39 pellets or upto 50gr slugs 980fps on 148reg. I've always wondered about the slightly heavier Huma. With regard to the Tungsten, many don't realise exactly what it was designed for, to start it needs 165reg minimum & it has been known to snap the valve pin because of the brutality 🙂
I'm running an Impact M3 .22 standard (600mm barrel) with the slug probe and barrel port only (no other changes) with the FX hybrid 22 grain slugs. Very good results with standard STX liner with 1st reg. at 140 bar, second reg. at 90 bar (try and keep 50 bar difference for harmonics). Ok, its not shooting +1000fps, but high 800's - very repeatable and good 480cc air-bottle life.
Yes ,for my impact mk2.22, regulate 80 bars, it's the hammer stock 6 grammes for pellets 18gr, and i think a hammer 7,5 or 8,5 max for 25 or 28grs. I'm totaly ok with you for having a différents réglages with the impact.👍
Again awesome explanation. Just put a heavy in my crown. (Shoots crazy fast but no tune ability im not a fan) With this explanation and what I experienced in the 1st shots I'm going to the lathe and making my own hammers of different weights.
Just ordered the huma hammer set to get more tunable Fx M3. The 14gr hammer is just to heavy for finding a good tune for my 25gr slugs. Thanks for the detailed info. I didn't know there was something in between like the Huma hammers 👌👍
YES! Thank you for this! I dropped the tungsten in my 25 and was slinging 43.5 grainers crazy fast but it was taking my M3 to extremes I was not comfortable with. Loud. Violent and nerve racking . And just not enjoyable. Put the stock hammer back. Retuned to pellets and my happiness is back. I fell victim and got sucked into the go big trend. It’s not that great.
Great video moose ! Love this type of information . I made a mistake about the set screw a couple weeks ago (my friends fx dream tech that was only shooting at 200 fps). It wasn't down by the trigger set screws . It was up in the magazine well . Down to valve and hammer . When you get it out you can see the valve and hammer . We took out set screw and it instantly shot better . After a few minutes of adjusting he was as happy as a teenager loosing his verginity ! Went from 200 fps to 760+ fps and one hole three shot groups . I have a feeling the chipmunks are not messing around his place as freely as before . Lol another fx fan ! Keep up the great work bud ! 👍🍻
Spot on!! I noticed the tungsten hammer only starts allowing ES tuning from 140-145 bar upwards. You can tune for speed below that, but ES will be all over the place!! Another thing to watch is the length of the hammer spring. I do not know lengths for the impact, but for the maverick there are two versions: a 52 and a 56mm. The 56 allows for more power BUT is a lot less forgiving on ES level (impossible to get ES below 12-15 consistently). The combo 56mm spring & heavy hammer is an absolute tuning nightmare once you go to anything-but-very-high-power (
Awesome video .... great info I found out for me that the regular slug kit with Ernest rowe dual port and light value spring works for me in both of my fx impact..... I tried the huma kit with both hammer weights I tried the tungsten hammer etc ...and for me the the regular slug kit is good enough for me for shooting slugs thanks for sharing bsafe buddy 👍

Really good vid. this may be my issue. I installed the tungsten hammer with the light spring. Got maybe 10 fps. then added the pin probe got quite a bit, maybe 40 fps? BUT now my Macro wheel was ineffective. It could be on 1 or 16. Made no difference and also gave me about a spread of 30. I'm going to remove the tungsten...Thanks
Wish I hand found this before I've spent hours trying to figure why the tungsten hammer is only giving me at max 800 fps... 🤦I'll be switching it back to stock

I'm curious, have you tested just adding the heavier hammer in the Huma Hammer Wt Tuning Set and still use the stock springs or just adding The Tuning High Power Springs and us using the original hammer?
My M3/700 in 35 is set at 170/120/16/4.5/line6VA. Shooting NSA 93g at 840fps. If I raise 2nd reg above 120 fps drops. For ex. at 150 bar I got 800fps. Why is this?
Hey, great tutorial video. I have an FX Impact M3 power block 5.5-700mm. Installed only pin probe from Huma-Air. I shoot 30 gr slugs. But I couldn't adjust to stable speed, 10ms (35 fps) speed difference. I bought a Huma-Air slug kit but haven't installed it yet. The set includes two springs and two hammers. Accuracy speed for slugs at 280-290ms (920-950fps). Which of these to install on a rifle? Do you recommend putting both springs and a heavy hammer?
I have both tungsten hammers for impacts and mavericks the mavericks is 26gr the impact ones I got weren't that heavy I think it was only 16 or18gr i believe ?
Hey Moose so I was looking to buy the slug power kit but I’m confused because Utah airguns has it but it’s description is confusing it say * x & mkII But If I go to another dealer it shows the same things you get it the picture but it’ll state it’s for the m3.. and then also no hammer is included just those washers you mentioned.. what do I actually need to know so I get the right one thank you I have a m3 thanks moose love the videos

So your saying to shot heavy slugs with heavier hammer then you need to gut your impact internals including beefier items such as valve.

I don't think the numbers you provided are valid, upon tests and recommendations from pro's, the dual ring hammer that comes in the slug kit should operate at minimum of 150 bar reg pressure if you are using the light valve spring.that applies with a bit more on the light huma hammer
and you will notice that as you're using your gun.
the 7.5 hammers can open the valve safely all the way to 168 bars reg pressure
if you intend to go high reg pre's beyond 170 bar it is recommended to use the 14.5 tungsten hammer
noting that the new power block regulator is designed to hold 200 bar reg pressure, so it is suitable for those who use high reg pressures on power blocks or modded regulators
failing to accurately use the right hammer for the right pressures will lead to excessive air consumption (and huge velocity spread), slug wobbles ( or inaccuracy) or even valve rod damage.
