This changed my life. I've been off of social media for 3 months now, I deleted my Snapchat, Instagram, and youtube. In this time my attention span has improved, I find it easier to talk to people, and I'm less stressed all the time. I used to not be able to read books or even focus on a single task at a time. I'd scroll through Instagram while watching Netflix at the same time, now I find my self reading for hours and staying more focused on tasks when I do them. Make an app that challenges people daily to perform acts of kindness or things that are out of their comfort zone. The app could have a section for fears and insecurities and that could help personalise the experience of the app. Another idea for the app would be that it could arrange meet ups for fans and fan-organised events which push forward the ideals of spontaneity, kindess and seeking discomfort
One of the most amazing things about social media is connecting to others around the world, but it also brings our social skills down sometimes if we replace interacting through a screen rather than real life with people around us.

ok, so now I'm going to go the rest of the summer with only being able to watch two youtube videos every day. I've gotten to the point where UA-cam is taking up so much of my life that I feel like I haven't accomplished any goal and I've become really lazy. I believe there is good content like YesTheory, Ted Talks, and other channels that I don't want to cut out of my life because they make me a better person, so that is why I will still only watch a maximum of two videos a day. Thank you YesTheory for this motivation!
Left social media on 21st July 2019 just there on UA-cam since then for motivational videos like yours. Glad to see I’m not alone there’s many more who have quit it & are feeling better about it.
Challenge accepted I’ll edit this comment in 30 days Today is Day 27 of the challenge. I officially failed today. I downloaded Instagram and UA-cam and I don’t really know why. I don’t know why I couldn’t survive for 3 more days but I do know i want to try this challenge again. I have to say though as soon as I did delete Instagram and UA-cam I felt AMAZING. It was pure happiness and last week was just absolutely fabulous in so many ways. Also when I said challenge excepted that was no spelling error I’m just kind of an idiot lol. And I really got a real laugh looking at all your responses. And I’m going to go fix my spelling error right now. I will be starting the challenge again in 3 days. The day I should’ve succeeded. Wish me luck guys :) Oh and why did all the star wars trailers have to come out when I was doing this challenge?! 😆
My girlfriend convinced me to delete social media for a week and i did it I fotgot when i was allowed to use social media again and just kept going and now i havent used instagram for half a year and i think that its a rly important experience which everyone should make
After seeing this video it's the straw that broke the camels back. So I dont post to social media or have them setup to ping me with each new msg. (Thats annoying) But there is still information overload because i watch a lot of videos and read a lot on Facebook. So after seeing this video.. and for 3 days now ove ditched the information overload and have yet to go back to Facebook or much of youtube. I've also been meditating several times a day listening to waves crash on the beach noises. I plan to do this 30 days+. I'm 3 days in and I already feel better. I've been stressed and anxious since my failed IT business 2.5 years ago. I'm working out more and plan to start visiting friends more starting asap. So far so good! I'll come back and post the rest of my experience here when the 30 days are up. You guys rock!
I did this before, for around a week. After the whole experiment, I felt more present even when I'm bored. Physically, my head and eyes felt so much better too. Life felt more like life. :)
In two months I'm taking my final exams and I need to study even more than I already am.. I kept thinking that I don't have enough time but then it came to me : I spend a ridiculous amount of time on my phone! But I couldn't give up social media..when you uploaded this video I decided to finally take action! Thanks for inspiring me!! I'm deleting all apps from my phone! See you in two months!! PS Don't upload any cool video, I don't want to miss your incredible content!! Jk
Just remember you can pull up your laptop id you need to watch that youtube video etc. Still using it but the fact you have to get a laptop, logon, google and watch means you are less likely to do it
This video was such an eye opener for me, I really took into consideration over the past couple weeks how much I truly depended on my phone and what I’m actually missing out on. Month of May I’m going social media free and I’m so excited to actually complete some goals I’ve been putting off! 😊
I saw this video 1 year ago and it inspired me to take the challenge. I did it for 30 days back then and it completely changed my life and the way I was thinking about myself, the important things around me. 1 year later,I still believe in spending less time on my phone, and every time I get back to using social media way to much,I'm setting a goal again. Thank you for this video
The only social media I have is UA-cam. And all I have to worry about is what to do. This is great for me and my brain to think about what the next step in my life would be.
After being a complete Instagram addict for years, I deleted my account 3 months ago and it's one of the best decisions i've ever made. You sometimes feel like you're missing out on things but the benefits of not going on Instagram 24/7 (not wasting your time scrolling and looking at what other people are doing) completely compensate the feeling of missing out. I highly recommend it to anyone who does not financially depend on Instagram.
I freaking love you guys, this has been the best thing for me in the last few years and especially now during COVID-19. 4 years ago I trashed my TV and now limited social media too has been a breath of fresh air 🙌
It's not even that it makes you unhappy per say. It's more or less, coming across all the unhappy folk posting stupid stuff, while trying to influence others thinking with childish petty stuff...........in order to make you just as unhappy and miserable as they are,
Literally me over the last 2-3 months, I lost almost all of my friends and only have one close friend left now, and yeah I may have more time because I'm not spending time with them anymore but it didn't help my mental health but it's starting to improve now that I'm moving on from them
i was spending 7 hours a day. deleted social media’s a few months ago and my mental health has sky rocketed. i feel so happy and i feel like a kid again. best thing i have ever done. i used to go to sleep at like 3am and now 9:30 pm most nights. it might seem boring but i wake up at 6 and feel amazing doing more stuff than i would’ve ever in that space of the night. I really feel like deleting it played a huge role in my evolution as myself
Keith Hilson which is how you know it’s true. It’s not in these people’s immediate best interest to tell you to get off, they make money off your veins. This is a selfless act, for the betterment of society.
granted youtube is a social media site but then we watch what we want to, we know what we are getting into, unlike instagram facebook or twitter where we just waste our time scrolling through shit all day long
For me I just turned social media into a mailbox: deactivate notifications. I check it from time to time when I want, it doesn’t distract or interrupt me, feels a lot more natural & peaceful. Discovered this by accident by using the a social app where notifications don’t work (it’s a bug), but I found enjoying it a lot more that way! Happy accidents.
i just discovered this channel a few days ago and i realize that it might be the best channel i have ever seen so far thank you for the good content i really enjoy it :)
I love Yes Theory because they always inspire me so much and after this I think I’m going to delete social media for a bit an see how it goes🤷🏻♀️ love you Yes Theory ❤️
It has a similar features and effects - diminished attention span, scrolling through videos, skipping ahead in videos, following trends, toxic comments, etc.
Same. I'm almost completely off of FB and insta, but I'm constantly on YT in my free time... I'm definitely addicted, and the problem is that I don't feel like making a change because the short term enjoyment feels good. Deep in the back of my mind however, I know that it's bad for me in the long term.
If your first thought is I'd never be able to pull it off, you're on the wrong path to success. Switch it to a positive mindset, and you'll pull it off
Ken Kenaki's Waifu of course it wouldn’t be easy, the most rewarding things in life are uncomfortable, but through that struggle you grow more as a person, you 💯 could pull it off, the bigger issue is that you tell yourself you can’t, so you have this belief that you would never be able to do a digital detox, you are using that story to affirm that you can’t, and because you believe it to be truth you won’t take any action in the long term, to prove myself, and everyone wrong. It’s not even abandoning social media or smartphone use, it’s simply being aware of where your time is allocated and shifting your time to more mindful, beneficial, or healthy habits🙂 and anyone can do that, it all starts with believing that what you call impossible, may actually be possible
I did this after watching an Alex Becker UA-cam video about the dopamine hit. I’m making art again, reading and exercising especially nature hiking again! Ahooooooo! Love to all
have been meaning to do this and the video gave me the encouragement to do so, those moments when you're alone and pull out your phone instead of just thinking don't allow for those small periods of thoughtful reflection, rest, and creativity which can really change your life. i'm excited to see how this will affect me in the coming weeks. much love!:)
Damn... That guy from TED Talks also the one who inspired me on removing myself from social media. Now I'm almost a month away from it and guess what??? None of my friends even noticed. And only if we can tell all the users to atleast do this detox, we could all be happy. And that's an underrated fact these days.
Hey YesTheory, I think I might have met Matt's doppelgänger. He is a famous Australian comedian known as Tommy Little and they looks so alike. I think this could be a fantastic video idea but it's honestly insane how alike you look. The only difference is the shape you eyes but if you put on sun glasses you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
I don't use social media from the start ... like when ppl were running around building their world on Facebook when it's first booming, I just sat there looking at them and how much they've been consumed by it. Because of that, when I finally use them, I use with very clear awareness and realisation that it is not and will never become my life. Nowadays, I have social medias but use them only for good cause, like rescuing animals and checking new ideas and inspiration. I can still go many days without and still stay pretty happy with life.
Could we have a year check in to see how Thomas is doing? I often struggle with relapses no matter how well I do in the beginning so it would be nice to see Thomas' experience.

One of the most amazing things about social media is connecting to others around the world, but it also brings our social skills down sometimes if we replace interacting through a screen rather than real life with people around us.

Yes theory podcast
Matt's ironman
Yes theory book
New show

ok, so now I'm going to go the rest of the summer with only being able to watch two youtube videos every day.

Today is Day 27 of the challenge. Wish me luck guys :)

I really want to do this. But I am motivator on Instagram, check it out. @GrowthEmpire_

Same. I'm almost completely off of FB and insta, but I'm constantly on YT in my free time... If your first thought is I'd never be able to pull it off, you're on the wrong path to success. Switch it to a positive mindset, and you'll pull it off
@@zemiguel2550 100% agree
