      The bucket that spilled on the mad dog guy was called spitoon when you chew chewing tobacco you don’t swallow the spit in your mouth. You spit it out and it’s probably black and gross.

      Planes, Trains and Automobiles starring John Candy and Steve Martin. WATCH it WILL NOT Disappoint. It’s from 1987 I think.

    Smitten is the right word! Doc is smitten with Clara and vice versa. The band at the party is ZZ Top, and they do the guitar flip in at least one of their videos, a song called Legs. Doc's been in 1885 for eight months. The Delorean kept setting the date to January 1, 1885 so that was the day he arrived and Marty arrives in 1885 to get him on September 2nd. I know twirling a gun looks cool but it's easier than it looks. Guns are weighted in such a way that it's hard not to twirl them.
    I love this series. So well put together, fun repeating elements, and I love the tension of everything going wrong at the end of each one. Awesome, thanks for doing these!

      Yeah the pistol grip is designed to roll back to save your wrist on firing so rolling it is just an extension of the natural action.

    The brass liquid filled vase that Tannen got dropped on him is called a Spittoon. Back in those times, people would commonly chew tobacco where smoking was not an option. You cannot swallow the tobacco as it makes you sick so you have to spit out and saliva generated while chewing. These receptacles were a common sight in saloons and other public places.

    In the 1950s through theb1960s Japanese products had the reputation of being of very low quality. That changed in the mid 1970s when Japan rose ton become an international industrial powerhouse, thus the joke.

    • @TheRetroManRandySavage
      @TheRetroManRandySavage 16 днів тому +5

      And in the 80s & 90s we'd joke about products being made in Taiwan.
      Now in the 2020s it's china.😂

    • @AudieHolland
      @AudieHolland 7 днів тому

      And when Japan did become an international industrial and economic powerhouse, many people thought Japan would dominate the world after all. That is why Marty's boss in the future is Japanese and Marty himself is bowing and scraping like a Japanese peasant.
      That's nothing bad said about Japanese peasants. If they didn't show enough respect to their overlords, they'd literally lose their head.

      Japan's industrial infrastructure was devastated during WW2. It literally took them two decades to recover.

  • @jzero4813
    @jzero4813 16 днів тому +4

    05:10 - They're in 1955 at this point. Japan was just a decade past WW2 and was still a recovering economy. They were beginning to be a major economic player, but at the time most Japanese goods were cheap and low quality. It wasn't until the 1980s that Japanese manufacturing really began to improve to the point where they were now a major cutting-edge nation.

    29:15 It wasn't until some time after this that people discovered you could take Frisbie pie tins, turn them upside-down, and throw them like an airfoil (forming the basis for "Frisbie" as a nickname for a flying disc). It wasn't until 1957 that a toy company finally started making actual flying-disc toys and, to avoid copyright conflict with the pie company, called them "Frisbee" instead.

    The scene where they hang Marty McFly from the clock tower. The close up shot of Michael J. Fox hanging, he was actually choking to the point where he lost consciousness. If it hadn’t been for the crew he could’ve actually died. They got him down and revived him and once they made sure he was alive and alert they revived the footage and decided to keep it in the movie for the authenticity of the scene.

    Japan in 1955 was recovering from WW2 ( the stuff was like China s is now). In 1985 Japan fully leaned into to high level engineering great stuff.

    I have loved the Back to the Future trilogy since the first time I watched it. A classic 1980s movie I'd recommend, one of my favorite movies actually, is RoboCop. Despite being released in 1987 the special effects still hold up pretty well even today.

    I always wondered if there were now 2 time machines in 1885 since he buried the one that took him there, and they don’t take it from its place until the 80’s so technically it should still be there….. that’ll make your head hurt thinking about.

    • @AudieHolland
      @AudieHolland 7 днів тому

      If you think it even more through, there will be an *infinite amount* of timemachines, Doc Browns and Marty McFlys running around trying not to bump into each other.

    Hey brothers, if you like the theme of time travel, check out Frequency (2000) with Jim Caviezel and Dennis Quaid. Not exactly time travel, but is about communication across time that has consequences. It's a sort of sci-fi thriller with heart. Think you'll love it.

    The body wouldn't rust. It was high quality stainless steel. Not to mention the dry climate. Yeah, the 1980's and early 90's was the period of dominance of Japanese electronics manufacturing. Doc couldn't go back with Marty, he was already there. Spittoon for chewing tobacco. I don't know why they even tried pulling the car. Horses can't run 88mph on their own. And no tall buildings then either. If they dropped off a mountain they'd still have to land and that would kinda defeat the purpose. Marty said Far out, and they didn't understand because it was right in front of him.

    Love these guys, no homo! Shows that people from different regions and religions can come together and enjoy the same stuff! This is possibly the most underrated Trilogy ever coming right after the original Star Wars Trilogy (1977-1983) it probably got over shadowed and likely got overlooked when people think of greatest movie trilogies over the years. It certainly had one of the most underrated 3rd installments and conclusions ever as it came 6 months after the theatrical release of the long-awaited second movie and probably suffered from slight fatigue from the hype of the franchise and some of the disappointment some fans had with that movie. Even the director, Robert Zemeckis, said he thought the final version of the second movie suffered as he was filming both film’s consecutively and edited Part 2 as he was still filming Part 3. I have to say I agree, but still very solid and a very entertaining and satisfying conclusion. Particularly love the flip of having Doc Brown become the romantic hero and having Mad Dog Tannen steal the show.

    Delorean cars were made out of stainless steel, meaning the body is mixed with nickel, preventing rust.
    Yup, although terms can apply to either or either.
    A female in love is called "Head over heels", (in love) a male in love is called "Smitten as a kitten", (no longer a tom cat, which is referred to as "sowing ones oats").

    The wake up juice was tabasco, hot red pepper juice lol.
    In a Clint Eastwood movie after a gang had dragged him around his neck with a rope, and left him for dead.
    Clint Eastwood recouped, healed up, then went for retribution.
    He placed a cast iron stove plate on his front.
    So they borrowed that as a part of humor because Marty was going by Clint Eastwood's name.
