Marty is referring to the convenient store chain, which had arcade games in them back in the 80s. The shooting range scene is a callback to the Cafe 80s scene in Part 2 where Marty "shows off" to the two kids who get the Wild Gun arcade game working. Marty learned to shoot by playing arcade shooters at 7-Eleven.

the old cowboys sitting in the bar making comments were actually veteran cowboy movie actors, and so was the bartender. Pat Buttram, Harry Carey Jr. , Dub Taylor, and Matt Clark. They had a blast doing this in their retirement. Clark, the bartender, was younger...the bit where Doc shoot Marty's rope and he falls...directly stolen from the Clint Eastwood movie "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" [1966 re-released in 1968] but those who don't know don't get the joke. In the theater in 1985 we all laughed, we knew exactly where that came form. Clara running to the train and then leaving to find Doc, is sort of indirectly taken from the classic western High Noon.

There was a time travel TV show back in 1966-67 seasons called The Time Tunnel...it's "Campy" but fun and some dramatic scenes as well. If any thing you'll get a good laugh at the technology and costumes. Two scientist guys stuck in the Time Tunnel in the future and past and can't seem to ever get home, while scientific crew, including a lady who was once a Miss America, Lee Meriweather, try to bring them home. The two guys land in famous events in history every week. It perked some interest in history for me as a child.
The chances of them being able to time travel are just about equal to the chances that the lug nuts for the train wheels would match up to the lug nuts on the Delorean…

Just to remind you after doc went to the future he updated the DeLorean. So it wouldn't have to use plutonium just trash from the garbage can if you remember the beginning of the second movie. However in this movie you have the opposite problem. Yes the time travel does work because garbage exists in 1985 whoops I mean 1885. However since I was before cars there was no gas. Yes you have garbage to run the time travel but you still need gas to run the car. So in part one you need a electricity for the car to time travel. It's the opposite problem in part 3 where you just need the car to go up to 88 but how do you do that without gas. You need energy to power the vehicle which is gas and you need an energy to power the flux capacitor which is time travel. At the end of part 3 dock found a solution to both problems. The time travel machine uses random junk to time travel but it uses steam to go up to 88 instead of gas or anything else. Steam has been invented since the creation of man. So as of the end of part 3 there can be nothing more wrong with the time machine. Unless you break it to pieces and rebuild it but that's not an interesting story cuz it's easy to rebuild a time machine according to the movies. What a great way to end the trilogy and why there should never be a part 4 cuz there's no more problems you can create. However there is a bunch of more time travel stores you could tell but why ruin this trilogy. It's a classic. There will never be a part 4 a remake or a reboot.
There was a "Back to the Future" cartoon (1991). The problems were caused by the main protagonists Jules and Verne with Marty and Doc providing the resolutions
The basic logical choice would be to take Clara with them since she doesn't belong with the original timeline. She did die a few days before so... ;)

Yup, back in the day, 7-11s would have 2 or 3 arcade cabinets in them. I spent many an hour gulping slurpees and getting my Street Fighter II fundamentals down!
Yep, I remember riding my bike to 7-11 in 1985. I'd get a Slurpee, a pack of Garbage Pail Kids, some nachos, and then play some video games. Allowance depleted immediately

Remember, in the 1950's the Japanese were still recovering from the war. Japans technology had not advanced yet so they did not have a reputation as the center of great technology.
Wait hold on you're not done with Back to the Future yet. There was a bunch of stuff that came out after part 3. Back to the Future animated series, Back to the Future the ride at universal studios but shut down in 2007, these were literally the sequel to part 3. No one wanted to make a new movie because it ended on a good note but there are other ways to continuous saga. The anime series takes place after the third one the ride also takes place after the third one where duck organizes an institute for future Time travelers. Before the ride was shut down this was literally called Back to the Future part 4. However you still got the animated series. Two seasons 13 episodes each. There's also a dark brown saves the world where after part 3 he explains why we don't have the 2015 from Back to the Future and it's because of what he said at the end of the third film our future hasn't been written yet no one's has your future is whatever you make it so make it a good one and that's why there's no flying cards or flying hoverboards. It's also because Marty didn't get into that accident that some of these things don't exist today. there's also a Back to the Future the game that is five movies long it's literally Back to the Future 4 5 6 7 8 but it's just a video game. Doc decides to move his family to 1985 but before that timeline exists he's still in 1885. He wanted to make a family tree history book for Marty's graduation. He got stuck in 1931 and Marty had to go back in time recreate the DeLorean and save him in 1931. Then you have a new villain like part 2 sister Strickland steals the DeLorean multiple times and creates multiple ultimate realities like part 2 the stakes were higher then the trilogy. There's also two different deloreans from two different time periods in the same location racing against each other. They eventually defeat sister Strickland in 1875 and when Marty returns to the Future. Doc instead of going back to live in 1885 it changed the timeline to where he stayed in 1985 with Claire. Which sets the stage for the animated series. These are all sequels to the trilogy. They also made a documentary movie called back in time which they released on the exact date that Martin doc went to the Future. October 21st 2015 which is Back to the Future day ever since then. President Obama designated it. You can watch all three movies in the theater on October 21st 2015. Anyway back in time is a good documentary movie. It's what I watch after part 3. Lastly, what was recently new to the franchise and what's last that I didn't mention. Right after covid if you want to watch a continuation and you want it to be a movie form there's only one way to do it without making a sequel prequel remake or reboot. It's called Back to the Future the musical. It's exactly the same movie word for word but with songs added to it. Some conversations are actual songs instead of conversations. Like instead of dog talking about how invented time travel he sings about it to Marty before the terrorists come. Actually they even change that part of the plot because you can't have terrorist on stage it's too dangerous. So dark gets poisoned by plutonium instead. Don't breathe plutonium cuz it's actually poison for you. Sorry I'm not going to spoil the musical any further. However Bob Gail who invented Back to the Future who doesn't want to make a sequel prequel remake or reboot. He made a deal with universal so it will never happen within his own lifetime. He said this was the closest will ever get to it Back to the Future part 4. Now that you finish the trilogy can you react to the musical please? it's rewatching the movie but they added layers to the character that wasn't in the movie and it's like seeing the movie for the first time. If you only watch the movie you haven't seen the original Back to the Future. The musical puts the stakes even higher than the movie not as high as the second movie but higher than the first. The musical will have a higher place in your heart than the movie. Go watch the musical. It's performed in the West end opera house right now Broadway and it's going all over the United States. Go to back to the future of the musical.com to see when it will hit your state. With that said see you in the future.
The “bullet proof vest” scene is foreshadowed in part 2 when Biff is in the hot tub watching A Fist Full of Dollars, (a real Clint Eastwood film) and his character does the same thing in that film 👍 The concept is also similar to the end of the first film 😂
The "made in Japan" joke is because in the 50's, Japan was famous for plagiarising other countries and making cheap, shoddy knock-offs. It helped kickstart their economy and with time they became famous for the opposite. Funnily enough, my dad worked at a major fish packaging factory back then and saw the Japanese visitors take tons of photos of their patented machinery - he asked his bosses and they said "Nooo, they wouldn't do thaaat..."

A fun headscratcher - Marty knew the ravine as Clayton Ravine, but that was named when Clara died there. Except in the original Doc timeline (before Marty went back) he saved her and brought her home safe. In the new timeline, Doc _and_ Marty saved her, and then later after the train crashed there, you can see back in the 1980's that they renamed it Eastwood Ravine.
Second joke - "7-11" is because arcade games were common in 7-11's across the country. There were several games that had you with a light-pistol controller (which were later made for Nintendo as well) shooting at bad guys or monsters. Also, "frisbee" is the name of those flat plastic disks you toss at the beach or in the park. But they did in fact start out making pie trays.
Oh, and the band at the town dance is ZZ Top, famous blues rock band since the early 70's - feel free to look them up, both their original stuff, their 80's stuff and their later stuff. They were famous for their trademark (real!) beards and the guitar-twirl they do on stage in the movie.
History is full of some building on others work. The US did plenty of it.

Dude is a slang greeting term between men, meaning "guy" or "man." For example: "Dude! So, like, what's up?" It's been popularized by movies and TV shows, and has a distinctive whiff of American West Coast hippie culture to it.

That crack when Doc says "No wonder the circuit failed, it says Made in Japan" was even funnier since Marty was from the 80s, when the 🇺🇸 market was FILLED with Japanese imports like the Sony Walkman, the Nintendo Entertainment System, Japanese vehicles like Toyotas, etc. Japanese products were considered some of the coolest stuff out there in the 80s, which makes Doc's Post-WW2 comment even funnier 😁

Where Mary learned to shoot like that was at a then popular convenient store with video games inside. The place was called 7-11 and back when this movie was made that place was known by everyone. If you ever watch Wargame's with Matthew Broderick you will see that the main character is arrested at one of those
7-11 still _is_ everywhere, at least around here. There are four of them within two miles of me. They don't have arcade games any more, though.
The second is my favorite because of the clever technique of trying to fit a new story around and beside and behind the existing story from the first movie, where you're still seeing it but trying to carefully not interact with it. It's a really clever plot device.

Great reaction Nia like always. this trilogy is best love every single movie, there are some fun facts about this one. During the scene where Mad Dog Tannen and his cronies are attempting to hang Marty after their disagreement in the saloon, Michael J Fox accidentally got hanged for real for a short time, making him pass out for a few moments.
The producers asked Clint Eastwood for permission to use his name and he was happy and thrilled to say yes. The band ZZ Top were hanging around on the set of the film, and ended up portraying the band at the town party. There were some technical issues whilst filming and, whilst repairs were taking place to get them fixed, ZZ Top took requests from the cast and crew and gave a small concert.
Thomas F Wilson, who plays Mad Dog Tannen, did all of his own horse riding and horse stunts during the film. Not only that, but he also lassoed Marty. When Marty arrives back in 1985, the Delorean is quickly destroyed by a freight train. When it came to arranging the scene to be filmed, the producers asked the driver of the freight train whether hitting the car would derail the train, as they didn’t want to cause too much carnage. The driver shrugged it off, saying, ‘I’ve been waiting my whole life to do this. And the set of the Old West Hill Valley was used 4 years earlier for Pale Rider - a western starring none other than Clint Eastwood, which hit cinemas in 1985. Keep up the good work.

Yellow = Chicken = Coward, which I am sure you are aware now. 7 Eleven has more world locations than any grocery chain. In countries like The Philapinnes, it is "The" grocery store. In USA, considered a convience store. Marty shot so well because of video games. Btw, your reactions are so much fun.

The joke about the made in Japan was a real thing. Back in those days EVERYTHING was made in America and it was certified and it was a thing of National Pride. It wasn't until we began importing everything from overseas that the quality began to slide, although Japan took great stride to capitalize on electronic technology

7-11 joke explained: back in the mid 80s-mid 90s gas stations had arcade cabinets for popular games at the time. A big gimmick back then was light guns (this is referenced in Pt 2 where Marty shows off his skills in the Cafe 80s.) This was a common practice that died out once the PlayStation/N64 era took over.

ive seen this movie probably 50 times but somehow, this is the first time i ever noticed they replaced the delorean's tires with whitewalls in 1955 lol. that's a fun detail.

Clint Eastwood got famous for doing what the call Spaghetti Western in the 60's that were filmed in Italy and Spain. The western outfit that Marty got in the old west was what Clint wore during the making of those films. Quentin Tarantino was the one who directed many films in the 90's-2000'nds and the most famous one was Pulp Fiction with John Travolta and Samuel Jackson
31:20 - Again, in Part II, you may recall that while Biff was in the hot tub with those two girls, they had Clint Eastwood's film on the tv......specifically, the scene where Clint pulls that same stove plate trick.
Most people can fill you in about trivia regarding the movie, like how Clara appears at the train station when Doc and Marty are there, or how Michael J. Fox legitimately nearly choked to death filming the scene of Marty's hanging. I'll ramble a bit about the historicity of the movie, as it's surprisingly accurate, given the kind of movie it is.
"Dude" was an actual insult of the time. A "dude" was someone unnecessarily fancy in attire; this is also where we got the term "duds" from to mean clothing, though that's now fallen out of use as well. Calling someone a "dude" or saying they're "all duded up" was similar to what we might now call a "fop" or a "dandy".
Interesting note about the spitoon bit, where Marty catapults it onto Tannen; they were all but never cleaned, and rarely emptied. Seriously, the horse sroppings were veritably sterile in comparison. They were absolute cesspits of disease, and what came out of the spitoon in the movie was a _lot_ cleaner than what would have come out of a real spitoon of the time. That's something you can't un-know. You're welcome. 😄
A note about the one gang-member jumping up over his horse's hind end--this movie used a lot of stunt performers who traditionally worked on western movies, but by this era westerns were nearly unalived as a genre. Filming this movie was, thus, also sort of a send-up and maybe something of a send-off to the men and women who performed those stunts for years, even decades, and likely never would again after the movie.
Regarding gas for the Delorean, while Doc was technically correct that "there won't be a gas station around here until sometime in the next century", oil _was_ being drilled for other purposes. If memory serves, about this time the part of the oil we now call gasoline was simply discarded as it had no use. Also, though, around this time were some of the first experiments with internal-combustion engines. Ergo, it was actually not impossible to obtain "gasoline" in that era, though admittedly it would be such a stretch and require nearly an entire plot devoted to it, the decision to just say "there's no gas" was for the best. Still, it's an interesting note of historicity.
As for being called "yellow", it's short for "yellow belly", alling someone a coward. "Yellow belly" as slang for a coward likely originated in England. It was used to describe someone as being cowardly, likening their lack of courage to having a yellow belly, with yellow historically associated with sickness, weakness, or jealousy. Over time, this term was adopted in the American West, where colorful and vivid slang was popular for describing a person's character traits.
Overall, from a historical point of view, the movie was surprisingly accurate in details big and small. It's already a fun movie with a good story, so that just adds to it, I think. 🙂

I didn't believe in love at first sight until last Summer. It really changes the way you normally think and they got a lot right with Doc and how it affects his behavior, actions and totally makes you think differently than you normally would. Oxytocin is a hell of a drug.
I’ve understood the fans who say this one should be forgotten only the first two should be canon. Part 3 is a great time, so many bits were set up in the previous films, and it completes the cycles of past, present and future. It’s as close to a perfect trilogy as we ever got.

No, the first movie, Doc really got shot, the clock tower ledge was NOT broken, you can see it when Marty was with Jennifer before they kissed, it was the first timeline.
In 1955, Japan did not make the best stuff, it started in the 80s.
😄👍 There are some elements of this movie that make no sense whatsoever. Obviously there is absolutely no reason in the universe for Marty's great great great grandmother on his FATHER'S side to resemble his mother at all let alone be a perfect clone of her. Also, there is no such thing as a drive-in theater with a flat parking area. They all have rows of berms that point the cars up at the screen, making it just about impossible to go faster than 5mph in any of them, let alone 88mph. In spite of that and a whole lot of other stuff, it's still a fun film.
Not a bad bookend to the Back to the Future trilogy. I think I'm not alone in saying that I was a bit disappointed with the premise of the final movie. They can do anything story wise with a time machine, yet they decided disabling it and focusing on being a western was the best idea. Reminds me of that anime trope where the hero loses their powers for like 20 episodes. The whole reason I watch is for the powers!

Doc's reaction about the circuits being "made in japan" and when Marty says "what do you mean Doc? all the best stuff is made in japan" then the Doc replies "unbelievable" you have to remember in 1955 from his perspective it was only 10 years since World War II ended since the americans, the brits and australians been fighting the japanese i wouldn't say the Doc himself was necessary racist but it was certainly the mind set of other people against the japanese at that time the fight was still fresh in people's memories so the attitude against the japanese was accurate.

Time travel plots already have many paradoxes. Most are really small and you don't notice. One is that Clara could not have been Doc's beloved in 1955 as written on his gravestone at the start of the movie. Doc knew about Clayton ravine, so she is dead in the beginning timeline. But if they left the reference only to Marty it would not have mattered, since Marty's timeline precedes 1955 doc's timeline. This is just a small writing paradox
When Doc goes back to 1885, he ends up meeting Clara, preventing her plunge into the ravine, that's how they were able to meet. This is mentioned around 12:10. So it was possible that she was able to be on Doc's grave stone - this was not a plothole or paradox.
But then because Marty travels to 1885, he disrupts Doc going to meet her at the train station, leading to the original event of her falling into the ravine, albeit being saved at the last second. This version of Marty didnt go through the altered timeline of her surviving so to him, Clayton Ravine is still a thing.

There are 2 minor discrepancies, 1) there are 2 DeLoreans in 1885, one Marty arrived in and the one Doc hid in the mine, they could have used gas from the DeLorean in the mine, to power the one Marty came in, and 2) Doc could have proved to Clara he was from the future, by taking her and showing the time machine.
Actually you can’t leave gasoline in the tank for 70 years. Doc most definitely would have drained it knowing gas was easy to get in 1955.
@@mattx449 On the other hand, letting gaskets and bearings sit and dry out would do more harm than letting the gasoline sit in the tank.
In addition to the fluids being drained, they wouldn't have wanted to mess with the car in the mine after Marty had arrived in it due to increased risk of paradox. The same reason Marty only went back to the Old West to the day after Doc wrote the letter, even though that only gave him a few days to save Doc, and not months before that.
