What subjects in the videos would you like to see covered? I have a mini koi growth series? So what about a mini series for young koi keepers or new keepers. I am very open to suggestions. The water Changes came from a viewers comment! Have a think about what you would like to see in videos? Then post a comment and I will do my best to include it. Many Thanks
Totally agree, I live in Kent and the water out of the tap is basically liquid concrete, 400tds, .2% salt, 40-60 ppm nitrate, PH 7.5 out of the tap but after oxygenating it the PH rises up to 8.2, this along with whatever else they through into the mix that they call water that is safe for human consumption, personally the only thing its good for is washing your car.. For the last 2 years I have been using a jumbo 3 pod purifier into a 4040 RO unit, I use bicarbonate to keep the KH around 5 instead of 12 out of the tap and my GH is now around 6/7 instead of 34, every two weeks i clay the pond to keep it mineralised and only add water to replace what i removed after cleaning the filter. Biggest improvement I did to get rid of the trickle in/out was adding my diy ozone unit to my sander protein skimmer, for the previous 17 years my water was always yellow even with the trickle but within a week of adding ozone my water looked blue and pretty much deals with all the other reasons for doing a water change in the first place.
Many Thanks for the comment. I have a couple of small I think prozone ozone units. Very interested in your DIY ozone unit any more details? Also interested in your comment ozone does way with the need for water changes? Please could you expand. I also use Lithaqua A calcified seaweed high in trace elements and carbonates. It is an ideal filter media due to its porous construction, perfect for raising the KH of soft water, as well as stabilising pH.in my showers Kusuri koi sells it. Cheers
@@koibreeding Hi, I made it out of a stainless steel time capsule and I use a UV bulb inside to produce the ozone. Bulb choice is very important as a lot of ozone units sold use bulbs working in the 254nm wavelength which is a poor choice for producing ozone but they're still marketed as such, I use the 185nm bulbs and it produces a lot of ozone, probably still undersized for my pond but I am very happy with its performance and and just let it run 24/7, the combined power of the bulb and air pump is only 45w. Ozone targets a lot of things and has been used for many years to purify water, what I like using it for manly is targeting bacteria, viruses, hormones, metals, parasites, nitrite, colouration etc everything else is a bonus. Ozone is a very powerful oxidiser, I believe a read somewhere 100x more powerful than chlorine but without the side affects so using it in the correct way is very important, tbh a lot of the units now sold for ponds i think are spreading a lot of bad information in regards to installation, living things should not come into contact with the ozone unless you want them gone but I see a lot of vids of people just fitting an airstone to these units and running them straight into the pond allowing fish to come into contact with the ozone, thats a big no no.
@@MikeZak101 Many many thanks for such an in depth answer very much appreciated and a very interesting topic I think I will be asking some more questions before long!!!!
Very informative video 🙏🔥 The hole water thing is kind of a rabbit hole when you first go into it. We have underground water here in Denmark and they are telling us that we have some of the cleanest water in the world. Which might be right but it dont mean that its safe for us or our koi. Looking at the tests from the water company tells the true story. I have +30 pesticides, herbicides etc and +10 Heavy metals. All under what they call the "safe value" Everybody should use a minimum of a 3 stage purifier system 🙏
Many Thanks for comment to be clear I said 15% But It is not very clear in the video! So I apologise for any confusion caused. 15% I would recommend but if you have an excellent mature filter system I would drop that down to 10%
@ Thanks for the reply. One thing I always have a tough time figuring out is evaporation. Which you should do a video on sometime. It seems like during the winter when there is more humidity and the dew point and the barometric pressure raise I have more evaporation for some reason. Not sure how they all work.
@@finadic570 @finadic570 Evaporation Interesting as I run a trickle in on all four of my ponds I haven;t noticed an issue!. I would be asking if you have a liner in the pond and have you a leak? What do you do different in winter to summer? The water is colder and more dense so takes up less volume than in the hot days of summer. OK I can dream!!!
@@koibreeding not sure to be honest, seems like during the winter I have more evaporation, the big large boulders seem to absorb more water. This happened last year same thing. They came out to see if there was a liner leak, turned everything off 24 hours & marked it, not one drop loss. They did mention the dew point could have something to do with it & barometric pressure. It’s a mystery.
@@finadic570 I think evaporation is the wrong word? What is the difference in temp from summer to winter? Personally I think it is the temp difference and the cold water taking up less space in the pond. If you think of an ice cube and how it shrinks in your freezer and then how it expands when it un freezers. If you take the size difference with the ice cube and multiply that by the cubic meters in your pond I bet that would account for the missing water! Not really missing just taking up less space more Dense in cold weather.
Great video, Thanks for this bud. I really am learning loads from the channel!
Many thanks for the comment Please feel free to share etc If you have a subject you would like covered then post a comment? Cheers
Very educational video. Liked and subscribed. Keep making more videos for younger koi keepers
