From the title I assumed Pete would be the one behaving in an embarrassing way. But no, he handled himself with great grace and humility in the face of very intrusive questioning from someone totally ignorant of his work. Kudos to Pete.
I’m old enough to remember his heyday… he was literally famous for being a massive drug addict & acting like a complete mess, always causing chaos… his band had a couple of hits but then fell apart because he used to do heroin before gigs & then fall about mumbling gibberish on stage instead of performing… the fact that he doesn’t understand why an interviewer is asking him about his drug related behaviour pretty much shows how out of touch with reality he was back then tbh.
I had the privilege of meeting Pete in 2013 and we chatted for about 15 mins. Although he seemed a bit messed up, he was very sympathetic and caring and I think he asked more questions about me and how my day was so far. After our chat, we hugged like mates saying goodbye. I told him to look after himself and hope to see him again. His response was… believe me mate, I’m trying to get straight and one day I’ll crack it.
Yeah fuck Pete Doherty and his persona and everyone like him.his father is against him because of how he turned out to be nothing more than a junky musician which is low by average standards and because Pete turned his back on him.his father didn't get up every morning and work and went through the sweat and tears providing and keeping him all those years so he could end up turning out to be nothing more than a junky idolised by those who's parents wish they never encountered people like Pete.Pete is nothing more than the dregs of society unfortunately with the intelligence to influence the strong to be weak.....just like him
I think Pete handled himself pretty well. He was honest, humble and maintained a smile through a lot of tough questions that were borderline inappropriate. He never got angry or defensive I came away with a new found respect for the man.

Nobody I know who watched that interview were happy with the way Pat Kenny conducted it, it was very hostile. Why invite a guest if you are going to ostracise them in that way.
It's quite possibly one of the worst interviews I've ever seen, where Pat Kenny somehow managed to surpass my already abysmal opinion on him. He's so pompous and patronising when he's totally out of his depth....the arrogance of him when he hasn't got a clue about music, art or the art of connecting with interviewees to bring the best out of them. This was like an ill advised and inappropriate intervention more than an interview, he's lucky Pete had the good grace and dignity to withstand this nonsense. Pat Kenny's clumsy comparison with Shane McGowan 'hes fond of...ye know'....ugh.
@@nedthestaffieegan3452 Absolutely, RTE is just a clique anyway because there's no way anyone as wooden as Pat Kenny should've been anywhere near a chat show.
Well done Pete. For a time in the 2000’s they were the best band about. Mad concerts , word of mouth, then Up The Bracket. What a debut. Proper Raw album that was. Tunes like Horrorshow, Death of the Stairs and the outstanding tune for me Time for Heroes and Boys in The Band. All the Albion Stuff and Babyshambles I liked most of it. Kilamangiro was genius. The Libertines second album was good but over produced in my opinion. Both albums done by Mick Jones. Can’t stand me Now was a tune. The way Pete and Karl are doing vocals together a verse a time or just both join in. “ You shut me down and blamed it on the brown , cornered the boy kicked ………”. Top lyric. Last Post on the Bugle is a tune not forgetting the final record What became of the likely lads. Just finished the album off perfectly. Great band. Two mint albums , debauchery , drug addict , 2 best pals no longer, burglaries , the lot but they and there fans didn’t give a fuck. Last I listened to him was the one he recorded in Normandy during lockdown with Frederic Lo The fantasy life of poetry and crime. Well chilled 👍🏼. A fine album but very different. A great songwriter , lyricist , and intelligent man.
That slight raise of the corner of his mouth when love was mentioned. It sounded like a subject that actually matters was about to be talked about, then the host said the most boring thing possible. What a waste
It's so interesting hearing him say that at the end as a massive fan of him whenever I've mentioned him to my family who don't really know the band the libertines they still only know him as they guy who dated Kate moss and his drug addiction
For me the minute I heard The Delaney I was in love with that band and what I believed they represented.Freedom to live your life...a guitar,a melody and your best friend.I'll always adore The Libertines.
Focus on the art ...focus on the artist ask about his creative process leave the other stuff aside that's personal too Pete talk more about the positive effects his music has had on people ...keep shining on you crazy diamond 😊😊
Wow, it is like being told you are doing an interview about your music, instead you end up in an unexpected and unwanted psychotherapy session on television!!
Bringing up Shane McGowan was a brilliant comparison, in the sense that Shane and Pete are very alike. Two incredibly talented poets who probably would have gone much further if it weren't for their addiction. At the same time, this entire interview was completely inappropriate and it was not this guys place to be asking these kind of questions. Pete is a rare celebrity example of a genuine pure soul, just like Shane. It hurts seeing people like him being put on the spot like this
Articulate gracious and patient with the interviewer....you can see he's such an honest, and sensitive soul who has used drugs possibly to escape pain in his life...at least he's not pretentious...far from it. I never met him but knew people who had hung out round his serious drug taking period. Seems very genuine. Glad and happy he's left uk and clean and found a partner who isn't part of that old scene
Saw the baby shambles in Barcelona in 2006 at Sonar. He was so out of his mind on smack he dropped his guitar and fell asleep leaning on the mic stand. And what was most disturbing was that the crowd liked it and cheered him on.
He is a musician, but once you have been given the title of drug addict, you become schadenfraude for the bored,,hypocritical masses, who are addicted to hearing about everyone's addictions, regardless of level of functionality,,unless you are on the super downlow (like Phillip Seymour Hoffman)where it is a general shock, either way it is a torrid cycle ,
I was aware of the Libertines. I loved Grace/Wastelands. I have really got into his music (all projects) recently. What is undeniable is that he is talented and has written some great songs. It is sad that people do not take the time to do this. Their loss.
this is therapy session but without any help and just throwing the client under the bus on tv, if the presenter cant even name a song and see him for his talent then the presenter is just a media puppet
To add an Irish context to this, the 'Late Late Show' was the flagship weekend show in Ireland and a guaranteed viewing draw on a friday night. Pat Kenny got the spot after Gay Byrne retired. Kenny got the position not because he was the best person for the job but because in true Irish Boys club style he was the prince in waiting at the national broadcater. He is a reasonably middling and passable political analyst and he has as we say in Ireland, 'The Neck'. The show never recovered after he presented it. He is cold. All that is whatever it is but when he directs that coldness into hurting such a creative and honest person like Pete Doherty, Kenny needs a pulling up on it. Pete was a very strong gentleman in this interview to hold his dignity and patience, the bigger man for sure. 👍👍
Loved that song they did ‘can’t stand me now can’t stand me now can’t stand me now can’t stand me now’. That’s my favourite. I can’t really think of some of the other ones but they are pretty great. Love that one ‘can’t stand me now can’t stand me now can’t stand me now can’t stand me now can’t stand me now can’t stand me now can’t stand me now can’t stand me now. Genius!
Pete's a good bloke i know hes younger than me and he's a successful musician but we have a mirrored life with parties drugs and family.i totally understand pete.hes allot more than a pipe some foil and a shag.🇬🇧
I think Pete will be remembered for some great songs and there's no doubt he's always been committed to the music, the songwriting and the creative process. He's always struck me as a very intelligent bloke and I've always admired him for his honesty. It's also great to know he's apparently drug free these days and enjoying life. A decent guy who deserves a break.
The interviewer isn't being rude, but his line of questioning is very personal and doesn't let up. I cant say I've ever been a fan of PD, but he conducted himself adorably here.
When I think of Pete Doherty, I remember the sense of freedom I felt dancing to his music. And then I think of how clever his mind is, as demonstrated in this appalling interview.
That interviewer, Pat Kenny, was the highest paid of all staff at RTE, the national media network. I never understood why. He's not very good at his job. 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Pete Doherty's new shows, ice baths, meditating.... The ultimate middle finger to people like this interviewer, and the interviewer not even bothering to check out Pete's music before this interview tells all.
Excellent interview Pete was a little challenged but presented well. Pat Kenny is a very knowledgeable current affairs journalist/presenter and would challenge him again if he was to interview him that's his wayhe wasn't trying to embarrass or put Pete down.
Just watched the Louis Theroux interview that brought me here Jeez this interviewer thought it was a therapy session Pete did really well to be calm and collected.
'Cause there's always someone, somewhere With a big nose, who knows And who trips you up and laughs When you fall … It could have been anything, anything other, than what this was… the abyss between life and what others think that life is about has never been so gapingly wide.
"lets go back to shouting girl" is what i kept thinking as this man tried to have a televised therapy session with Pete. Cant believe he didnt even bother to listen to a song of his beforehand.
I love the libertines, I’ve always loved Pete’s sensibilities. But I especially love the metaphor of the shade from his hat hiding his eyes when he holds something back in this interview.
It's quite staggering for a TV presenter conducting an interview with a singer-songwriter to admit he couldn't name a single song that he'd written. It's to Pete's credit that he didn't walk out at that point.
@@neilriddell2171 Voilla ! Research demoted to “ tabloid gossip”. I think peter handled it well. I’m not talking about coping… I’m saying he allows you to see through the interview with the tip of a hat. It was invasive as it was patronising.

It’s still very uncomfortable to listen to this interview. The bias, the insidious nature of the interviewer. Big up for Pete. Thankfully my youth was not under scrutiny, I was wild anonymously! 🤗
Pat Kenny is a forensic type of interviewer he was mostly a political journalist and went into chat show presenting on the Late Late show after Gay Byrne the legendary host retired its the longest running talk show in the world so he was really not suited to interview Pete about his music he was more playing the psychologist here trying to get inside the mind of Pete maybe making an example of him for young people to show them that addiction isn't glamorous but you could say he was rather insensitive as well .
That interviewer has definitely crossed the line especially when he said perhaps your father feels shame, Pete is probably dealing with enough without having to listen to that. I think h handled himself with Grace.
Not particularly a fan of his music - but feel he managed to weather this ridiculous interview well - even with some aplomb! If anything i prefer the Doherty of 2023.... someone who has at least survived, and is funny with it. Not without his ghosts and perhaps traumas / issues he still needs to work through. Those questions though... Jesus..

I think he handled himself really well considering so many negatives were focused on, no talk of music poetry, nothing . To be honest poor Pete ❤️
“I’d like to imprint a melody in your heart and your head and have that as how you think of me” very elegantly said Pete ❤
That slight raise of the corner of his mouth when love was mentioned. It sounded like a subject that actually matters was about to be talked about, then the host said the most boring thing possible. What a waste
Really good commentary... Thanx for that... To articulate my thoughts into sense that's actually well put and insightful
I think this is his best interview 🤷🏻♂️
It's so interesting hearing him say that at the end as a massive fan of him whenever I've mentioned him to my family who don't really know the band the libertines they still only know him as they guy who dated Kate moss and his drug addiction
For me the minute I heard The Delaney I was in love with that band and what I believed they represented.Freedom to live your life...a guitar,a melody and your best friend.I'll always adore The Libertines.
his eyes are so expressive 🥹
Thanks for the content dude, always class. X
Focus on the art ...focus on the artist ask about his creative process leave the other stuff aside that's personal too Pete talk more about the positive effects his music has had on people ...keep shining on you crazy diamond 😊😊
He's smashed it ... oh gosh that interview was painful bad juju ... poor Peter , handled himself remarkably well I'd of decked him .
Pete should have told him to f##k off! Ghastly vile presenter.
Well he's a rock star not a bible study group star
A rock star !!??
Are you having a laugh ?
@@snape932like it or not he is an incredible songwriter and he sings rock songs
He is a musician, but once you have been given the title of drug addict, you become schadenfraude for the bored,,hypocritical masses, who are addicted to hearing about everyone's addictions, regardless of level of functionality,,unless you are on the super downlow (like Phillip Seymour Hoffman)where it is a general shock, either way it is a torrid cycle ,
I was aware of the Libertines. I loved Grace/Wastelands. I have really got into his music (all projects) recently. What is undeniable is that he is talented and has written some great songs. It is sad that people do not take the time to do this. Their loss.
He nailed it at the end!
Looking for any redeeming quality !
Very literate Peter open and aware...im really enjoying looking over his career at mo ...
Pity the women in the audience has no self-awareness!?
The interviewer missed a good opportunity here to have a decent conversation with Pete....just wanted to dish the dirt on him!!
this is therapy session but without any help and just throwing the client under the bus on tv, if the presenter cant even name a song and see him for his talent then the presenter is just a media puppet
Handled himself so well. Must have been really uncomfortable.
The version of’Last of the English Roses’ that he does at the end of this interview shuts Pat Kenny right up. Peter’s worth 100x this helmet
If only we knew as much about ADHD as we do now xx Love your forever Pete.
Pete handled himself brilliantly here
I think Pete will be remembered for some great songs and there's no doubt he's always been committed to the music, the songwriting and the creative process.
I love ya channel
The tv budget are waste for the host and they was not having a talent coordinator who told the studio audience the do and do not list
'Pete Doherty's Butcher wears one' Simon's Dad Inbetweeners.
When i see Pete or hear his name i have a strong urge to hear his music so yes for many music fans he has achieved this.
Getting Alan Partridge vibes here with the fan in audience who keeps talking to Alan
When I think of Pete Doherty, I remember the sense of freedom I felt dancing to his music. And then I think of how clever his mind is, as demonstrated in this appalling interview.
Media ruined his life more than the drugs , that interview proves that
Pete is a legend and a genius
Sober up
Imagine trying to get your head straight and you get questioning like this in front of an audience and TV.
Well he didn't have to go on telly, did he?
@@andyknowles772he probably foolishly thought they’d talk about his music. History isn’t on his side for that though, they do it with all celebs
That video would have been much better if you had have play the song at the end just to see if he had changed Pat kenny's mind
If you watch the full interview he gives zero feedback on the song.
i like the babyshambkes best. particularly the what a lovely tour recording. think this was the peak for me.
When was the last time he washed his hands ?
1:50 He looks like a child when he says this so cute 😂
He definitely improved, night and day
That interviewer, Pat Kenny, was the highest paid of all staff at RTE, the national media network.
Just watched the Louis Theroux interview that brought me here
Jeez this interviewer thought it was a therapy session Pete did really well to be calm and collected.
'Cause there's always someone, somewhere
With a big nose, who knows
And who trips you up and laughs
When you fall
…
It could have been anything, anything other, than what this was… the abyss between life and what others think that life is about has never been so gapingly wide.

Good man Pete.
His drug use and relationship with moss is what made him big in the u.s. but once i heard his music i realized he was talented beyond words
This interviewer is an aresole and thats putting it nicely
What about his fantastic Amazing music.⭐️⭐️⭐️
The interviewer is Pat Kenny......a rather notorious individual.
Onn ya go pete. Be yourself... dont change who you are.
I’m disgusted with all the personal questions; they don’t at all seem fair or reasonable in that setting. It was uncomfortable to watch.👎🏻
Not sure how this is the WORST interview?
It’s so compelling
It's quite staggering for a TV presenter conducting an interview with a singer-songwriter to admit he couldn't name a single song that he'd written. It's to Pete's credit that he didn't walk out at that point.
@@neilriddell2171 Voilla ! Research demoted to “ tabloid gossip”. I think peter handled it well. I’m not talking about coping… I’m saying he allows you to see through the interview with the tip of a hat. It was invasive as it was patronising.
I remember watching live on Irish TV and pat Kenny just made me cringe. Pete went on to perform a beautiful version of 'The lost art of murder'
This isn’t his worst interview at all. It’s the interviewers worst interview. His first solo record Grace and wastelands is inspired and brilliant.
its fucked how personal every interview of him is
This is not his worst interview at all his worst was when he was squirting his own blood from a syringe he was using all the interviewers leaving them speechless
Pete handled them tricky questions really well 👏🏻 He has his demons like we all do, but the scummy media jump all over him unfortunately, and that can only be detrimental to his mental health.
Jesus..
