History of iOS

- iOS is a mobile operating system that Apple created for use on their iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Now iOS is one of the world's most popular mobile operating systems despite only running on Apple’s own hardware. Compare this to the Android mobile operating system, which is licensed by Google to various hardware manufacturers and wireless carriers. Now the debate over which approach is better is a topic we’re not getting into today, because in this video, we’re going to focus on the history of iOS and its development from 2007 to 2018.

I remember the day iOS 7 was released. EVERYONE in school downloaded it...
Lol what? Everyone in my complex had iphones and when one person downloaded he told the whole neighborhood not to download it because it was ugly and slow and they all listened and kept ios 6 for AWHILE
I wanted iOS 7 so bad, but since I was only a teen at the time, all I had was a 4th gen iPod Touch, and it wasn't compatible with iOS 7. I was stuck with iOS 6...
Micah A I had a Motorola Droid Razr M android phone at the time. I LOVED that phone.
Aww those are some kind of memories I feel.
Daniel A. And i was the cool kid with the iPod touch that couldn't run ios 7 so i was stuck on iOS 6
I remember being severely disappointed when my iPod 4 couldn't update to iOS 7.
Julo someone made a custom firmware that updates the iPod touch 4 to iOS 7 and it runs like total crap so be lucky that it didn’t update

Yeah lol.. I have iPad 3rd gen and it’s in iOS 8.. 😂
My iPad 3 is on 9 and it stutters massively on the home screen but runs apps fine.
iPad Gen 3. Still runs like a champ.
So upgrade
they should release a vintage "iphone classic" that has looks the original iphone but has the internals of a newer iphone, and runs on a special ios system that has the design of the old ios, but runs like the newer version.
I had this thought earlier this week
Elijah Ford so... an iPhone SE?
To make one that looks like the original iPhone, I doubt there’s much of a market for people wanting such a small screen so I doubt they’ll do that.
But a vintage iPod would be kinda cool. A novelty item that probably wouldn’t sell very well, but still cool.
While that would be super fun.. no one would by it outside of Apple enthusiasts.
Basically the iphone SE
No, what we need are bigger versions of the iPhone 5 design. That is the path the iPad Pro has taken, and everyone (well maybe most) like it.
To me, the flat design was a lightning strike. I thought it was extremely beautiful and refined.

It took them 3 years to get the "Cut, copy and paste" feature...
Stanley to be fair, it was well implemented. And, Android was not even ready back then.
it takes them 10 more year for a file manager
what I assume as file manager is a shared space that all apps can access and store files there and all types of files can be stored and retrieved. anything lesser than this is not a file manager. is another app which looks like file manager. keep in mind, file manager is OS capability not an App

There are those of us who only use official Apple updates

Zoomx And Android has been doing what iOS jailbreak has been doing for even longer...
Jenathen T How are people trying to maximize the use of their phones “bums”? Plus, Apple doesn’t care about the consumer, so why would they care about the consumers and customization?

One thing I like about iOS is that even though the jump from iOS 6 to iOS 7 was huge, it still felt like an iPhone. You could say iOS 7 was just iOS 6 with a skin overlayed on it.

I very much like the old look of pre-IOS 7 devices. They should really add an option to retain the look.
Yeah. When I got into the iOS ecosystem in 2012, one of my favorite things was how finely crafted it looked, like people put a lot of time and effort into making my experience pleasant. I still like iOS, but it's kind of lost that warmth.
Caleb Goldberg I know Jony said he enjoyed being freed having to render things as they look...but the icons still represent things. So basically now we have stick figures when before they were paintings.
I agree, I still remember in 2013 I had an iPhone 4s and I updated it to iOS 7 and I completely regretted it and I still regret it even though I have an iPhone X now I miss the iOS 6 look.

Mac OS X

Windows 10 is by far better. OSX is dogshit with shitty program optimization for most third-party devs and win10 has by far way more features and customizability.

Colin Miller He did already

Colin, he already did one. There's such a thing as checking before you type!
I regret assigning Tim Cook as CEO why did Steve Wozniak have to leave apple?? This is all is fault if he did not leave then apple would be even better
WHO NEEDS A STYLUS??
Steve Jobs it seems you have only seen movies about Jobs and Wozniak. Woz wouldn’t want to be Apple CEO and if he was it would be the worst thing for Apple. I’m not saying Woz is not competent, in fact he is one of the most important people in computer development. It’s just that he doesn’t fit in the Apple culture. Woz is more a Linux man, he prefers open software which is not Apple way.

Very good & informative! iOS 13 by rights should be a belter for they really need to enhance the experience as their competitors are catching up!
Antennagate was definitely more than a simple error in the signal strength display algorithm. Of course, Apple tried to paint it that way, but the signal dropout was real: there were call quality issues, dropped calls etc., countless words have been written about the whole mess.
Was it an issue serious enough to make iPhone 4 a bad proposition? Almost definitely not. But saying that the Antennagate was a display algorithm error and not a real issue; that’s understating things quite a bit.
They did give out free bumper cases for anyone who bought before a certain date too, but Apple's argument was that actually the iPhone 4 had relatively the same number of dropped calls as it's competitors. I don't remember the stats they used to illustrate this but they were convincing. I think it's possible the signal strength algorithm was just giving users a false impression but I can see why so many consumers didn't believe them as it just came across as a denial. I'm a pretty skeptical person and avoided the iPhone 4 & 4S because of this issue, but it's easy to see how there could have been a significant error in that mechanism that confused users, especially if the 'acceptable levels' are a specific subset of a range, and that scale is non-linear. A GUI developer would have no reason to understand the underlying data.
You are holding it wrong.
The fact that Apple tried to claim that people were holding the device wrong (which, if valid, means they designed the device wrong; they can't pick and choose when their designs can be natural and intuitive), and the fact that they gave out free bumpers to those affected shows that Apple very clearly knew that the problem was the design of the phone. Further, their defense that their phone was just as crappy as other phones with regard to dropped calls is very un-Apple-esque, given the pride they supposedly take in making the best hardware. The fact is that the 4 had a design problem, which they fixed in future releases (note that the 4S was redesigned so that it would not have this issue). You'll notice that when Apple gets caught in a controversy in which they're plainly in the wrong, they'll typically respond by attempting to dismiss or minimize the issue, even going as far as to blame the consumers affected, but they'll also issue some sort of program to mitigate the cost or inconvenience to those affected, and they'll keep quiet until the next product is released, which will be designed to prevent the issue from recurring. Then I suppose everyone forgets and moves on. I remember being personally affected by the fraying MacBook power cables (I bought my MacBook in 2006, which came with the T-style magsafe cable, which was the design impacted by the major weak spot near the connector which eventually would fray and expose wires). They were reluctant to accept blame despite some of these cables literally causing electrical fires, but they relented and replaced everyone's power cables to an updated "L" design for free, mine included (which was nice, as my MacBook was well out of warranty and the cables were priced at $80 - outrageous for a power cable, I know). Or you can consider the recent battery throttling issue and how they're offering discounted battery replacements for iPhone 6 models or newer through the end of the year. Or "bendgate" with the iPhone 6, where they eventually offered to replace bent phones, then released a structurally reinforced 6S. They're pretty arrogant and sometimes even petty in their response to/denial of real issues, but I guess you can give them credit for consistently caving and making at least a half-hearted attempt to make things right. In a bizarre way, that's part of the sense of security you get from buying Apple products. When something goes very wrong with their design or manufacturing process, there's a reasonable chance that Apple will offer a solution to deal with it, unlike other lower-cost manufacturers which might leave you stuck with a broken POS to fix or replace at your expense.
