Really interesting story and very well told. Years ago, on our way further south we drove of the ferry heading for our overnight hotel but managed to get lost and ended up in the centre of Caen at 11pm 😳. I used my (very poor) schoolgirl French in a little bar to ask for directions and straight away 2 young men said they would lead us there, just follow their car. After a hairaisingly fast drive through the city centre it took us around 29 minutes to get to our hotel. The men wouldn't take anything apart from our thanks saying that the city owed so much to the liberating forces they were happy to help us. I have never forgotten how touched I was by their actions 💕
Brilliant video, loved it. You put a lot of effort into it and it showed that. We have been before & going over on 1st June for the 80th anniversary. Going back to the knitted swimwear, it must be a Dudley thing as I too had a knitted swimsuit, from Kates Hill😂😂
Thank you for noticing lol 😂 yep we did a but more research and linked it into the filming Kates Hill school I just started to go to at 6 my brother was already there before we moved to Shropshire - we lived in Dingle Close - small world I get the shudders when I get close to wool 😂
Wonderful video, a fascinating period of history, people were so brave. My grandfather fought in both world wars, lying about his age twice. He didn't speak about his experience, I may research his regiment myself, one day. Durham Light Infantry. Thank you for your excellent vlogs. The cafe and the custard tarts looked amazing. Trois is definitely better than Deux😍
So beautifully presented from start to finish of Pegasus, so iconic, in the heart of the part Britain played in that beginning of the end of WWII. In this episode you have honored them with a five star performance of your own. Well done!
Hi Jane and Stew, great story well told, like some of the other comments my father didn't talk about the war. As I got older he did say that it was a terrible thing to shoot a man from so far away. He was a sniper in the war.
You can’t understand the feeling they went through but trying to ensure the stories are told and the importance for future generations for me is critical Thanks for watching and sharing your story
Guys loving all your videos but especially your French tour. Your explanation of the action at both Pegasus Bridge and the Merville battery, have to be said are outstanding. As someone with a similar interest in the history of the 2nd world war, but especially all things D Day, using your drone to simulate the 3 glider landings really brought the moment to life and showed the heroism of the young men who took part in the battles. Well done to both of you and thanks for sharing your adventures here that I hope to replicate next year on my first European Moho tour👍👍👍
Glad you enjoy - the French trip was a great chance to touch iconic battle stories and we are both passionate about ww1 ww2 Glad you like Pegasus as I put a lot of effort into that one
It’s a fare few years ago my wife and cycled the full length of the D day landings from the American sector to the British sector remember visiting Pegasus bridge excellent trip so much history.
Great video Jane and Stew. We visited Caen a number of years ago and, bearing in mind how much the town was destroyed in the war, we were amazed, wandering around the town centre, just how well it had all been restored. We were SO impressed !
Yes it was fairly well flattened in many places - we have visited a few towns and cities in France and amazed at not just how they recover but also to build them back as they were Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks guys for telling us the story of how the bridge was recaptured by those brave soldiers, you told that story so well and loved the black and white "old film" shots👍💕
That dog! Perhaps I could try that with Jazz 😂 Free parking sounds so easy in France. Pegasus story was very interesting. Some of the strategies used were amazing. Not the old “I meant 2 but said 3” trick !😉. Nice parkup in the end. Thanks for sharing 👍😊
My dad would never talk about the war & when questioned would only make a joke of it. After I emigrated to Canada he gave me the medal diploma that he had so I made copies for my family. When my dad saw the copies he asked if he could have one, a family member said he could but he had to tell how he got it. Turns out he was the first person to go thru a mine field flagging all the mines so the others could get through. The very thought of crawling thru a mine field waiting for a bang!
Really excellent vlog Stew. So much work into the production, editing, and story-tellling. My Dad was WWII in New Guinea and never talked about his Military Medal deeds but we now have his story. A different breed back in those days. Thanks again
Thanks - we did put a bit of extra research and filming into this one and glad you enjoyed it I suspect they were a different breed as it’s hard to imagine must if us surviving it - but I guess you never know what capabilities ppl have - do important though to hear these stories Thanks for watching
I love the history lessons. It’s a shame no lessons were learnt from the horrors of war. Wars continue in the PAST, NOW & the FUTURE. If we survive the now. So true Jane have so many ? I would ask my father & my uncle. Lynne Victoria Australia 🇦🇺🐨👋🏻♥️💙
Superb video, I think the landing of the gliders was described as the finest piece of flying in the second world War, I believe it was Eisnhower but not sure.
Thank you both for a very interesting histoty video, great that so much info is available for visitors to the museum. I agree with Jane it is as we get older that we become aware of the importance of knowing the correct facts of our history!!!
Thank you for such a professional presentation with perfect narration. You told the story so well. My wife and I I will be making the journey there in 2025.
What another fantastically interesting video you’ve put together guys, thanks for sharing. Stew…I thought you did a brilliant job of describing the events leading up to the capture of Pegasus (and Horsa) bridges 👍👏
Really well put together. We sailed in and out of Caen but didn't visit the city or Pegasus Bridge. Definitely a revisit needed for us too. Thanks for sharing. x
Just had our first overnight in our CW California please do a video on how you can do so long in Harry. Space and what to pack for long trips. We have got a Potti Loo. Love all your long trips to Ireland and now Europe. we both have health issues so may have to plan on sights but also hope to to use other sights depending on facilities available. We hope to travel to Spain from Ireland to Estepona in the near future, ?????
Thanks for watching and enjoy finding your way that’s half the fun - we have learned to pack lighter and less bulky clothes - we now have a selection of layer Clothing that can be tumble dried etc
Excellent very well done both thank you, It makes me want to get my dad’s service records, just have to figure out how . He told me of the gliders think they used to call them flying coffins , he was lucky enough never to go in one . Well done good luck both 👍👍👍🏴🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦🦢
Hi to you both. Just an observation but it looks like you still have the protective cover over your smoke / Carbon Monoxide alarm! We have an identical van. Graham & Brenda.
Thanks - yeah we normally just have it on for any smokey cooking then take it off after must of left it on after breakfast by the looks Thanks for watching

Great coverage of the history behind Pegasus Bridge. Good to see they kept the old bridge. Thanks for all your hard work in producing this series ❤
Thanks for watching - weirdly it was quite emotional knowing it was the original bridge

My dad was the same. Would not talk. But in his later life he opened up to my cousin from America. We taped it all. 🇦🇺🐨👋🏻

Yes the three gliders were spot on in their landing - it could of been better
Thanks for watching
Nicely put together. That was Karl's first port of call when he got off the ferry. Look forward to the next one.😊
Thanks for watching - I am sure Karl enjoyed the history as much as we did - we’re heading west to Cherbourg so a few military stops along the way
