Hello. I came across this video and enjoyed it. I’m from the town in the video, Mount Airy, NC and still live here. I was actually the tribute artist for the character of Opie Taylor from the time I was 6 years old until the 8th grade for Mayberry Days. I’ve had the honor of meeting so many wonderful people from all over the nation, people who visit here for their love of The Andy Griffith Show. It truly is a wonderful place to live and I’m glad you guys seemed to enjoy it.
What a nice little town. I long for the days when little towns were thriving and life seemed so much simpler.
Me too, you nailed it
The alarm went off because Melody was down there! I love her voice and her smile is amazing!
Dont forget her beautiful eyes too. 🙂
This was fabulous. One of my favorite show from the 60's. Watched it as a small child. I still watch the reruns today. A place I could certainly live in. Thank you for this beautiful trip back in time !!!
So glad you enjoyed it Mary Jane
My favorite part 🤔☝seeing how the two of you get along.
Thank you
Amazing town😍 looks like my dream town to live.
These little towns are everywhere. But I know it's easier to talk.
Great video guys!
Thanks so much
I was at Andy museum years ago . And its much better today. I just LOVE the town. I walked the whole place.
Great video! I live in a small town in Texas. The news papers joked about us being Mayberry. When we had a new sheriff elected!
The worst day in Mayberry....is still the GREATEST day in MayBerry. You're in MayBerry!!!!!
Love this video. Small correction: there was indeed a water cooler between the two cells in the jail. Otis spiked it with moonshine once in an attempt to hide the "evidence." Needless to say, Barney indulged in a few cups of it and ended up "gassed."
Thanks!
Nothing better than small town living, loved the Andy Griffin show as a kid, thanks for the tour will probably never get down that way. Cheers...👍
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much!
Hi Shane and Melody. I loved going along with you to Mayberry (MT. Airy). I have always been a big fan of the show. Don Knotts, my favorite character, was from the great city of Morgantown, WV, which is about 40 minutes north of where I live. My husband is retiring this Wednesday and we are thinking of places we would like to visit and this will definitely be on my list. I am excited to have my husband watch this video. Another place based on one of my all-time favorite TV shows is the Waltons museum in VA and that is high on my bucket list too. Have either one of you ever been there. Thanks again for taking us on the tour.
Thanks for the kind words. We think y'all will really enjoy a trip to Mount Airy if you get the opportunity, great place to visit. Unfortunately, neither one of us has been to the town the Waltons was based on yet but hope to someday.
'Train Girl'?!?!?!?!?! I knew you all were good folks!!!! I am just starting putting videos up....all are about my model trains!!! All my years in NC I never made it to Mt Airy.......Thanks
Oh man what a awesome trip. We use to visit years ago when the cast would show up and do meet and greets. I personally have a signed photo of almost everyone on the show. Thanks for the memory trip
that is fantastic, wish I had been able to do that. I love the show so much.
Oh my gosh !! I have always been just dying to go there !! I want to live near there. I can't thank you enough for going n filming there n taking me along for a quick tour. This is my absolute favorite place of all. I am a huge Andy of Mayberry fan. This is too exciting !! I plan on watching this Video several times !!! Thank you n God Bless you for going there for me (us).
so glad you enjoyed it, it is an amazing little place in the world
Been thru Mt. Airy many times & been thru the downtown area but never knew what places were connected to Andy. I always wanted to take the tour but just never took time to do it. I just have to see it thru yours & Melody's eyes. You gotta great partner in crime there! Loved this! Thanks Shane & Melody! Y'all stay safe & God bless ya both!
Thanks so much, we're so glad you enjoyed it, Debbie
Wife and I will be near Orchard Gap in September and planning a visit to Mount Airy. Looks like a fun destination. I've always been a big fan if The Andy Griffith Show.
Awesome video . Tour guide sounded very informative.
he was sharp as a whip, very impressive man
plan on going there one day
you won't regret it, Walter, well worth the trip
Melody and Shane: I always enjoy your show but this one is special and one of my favorites. I want to visit the area.
Ya'll take care!
It was one of our first together but still one of our favorites too. Glad you enjoyed it.
What a great video! Thank you Shane and Melody. I really enjoy how much you show and your opinions on everything. Very cool.
Thanks so much! We appreciate the feedback, Robin
Yeah ya'll. Thank you for the road trip. 😀
thanks for riding along with us :)
You'll thanks for slowing down so we can see the sites, I you to drive truck through va and wv I sure enjoy your videos.
Sorry I don't seem to be able to catch up on my videos 😪. I watched the first 10 minutes and something made me stop. Any who I noticed Melody is wear a FloydFest t-shirt that's about 1 hour away for me. I did security for the festival a couple of times but I gave it up. Got tired of slapping drunks around. If you 2 decide to attend it this year if they have it . We should meet. ✌
Very nice video and you folks are very likable as well! Thank you.....
Loved it guys. Keep up the whistling. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for the enjoyment.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it
I live in CA now, but have been homesick-Thank you for the video! It's great to see these places thriving
glad you enjoyed it, hope things are going well out west
I visited that town on a road trip through the South once. I think the show had a ceramic water cooler between the jail cells that Barney drank from and got drunk when Otis poured his moonshine into it on an episode.
you're exactly right, I totally forgot that - now I am kicking myself in the pants lol
Yep loved that episode
You mean Barney couldn't tell the difference between the taste of water and moonshine?
I’m definitely going to visit. What a great town.
You won’t regret it, I guarantee you that
Thank you. As a truck driver, I never get to see the town.
Glad you enjoyed it, stay safe out there
Never been to that museum before as many times that I've ben there. Great video. Little bit of trivia is that Pilot Mountain us a dormant volcano. And yes Barney's is a great place to eat.
Did not know that about Pilot Mountain, how cool. I met Thelma Lou down there a couple years ago, a real sweetheart
It's nice to see the real Mayberry town.
Been there done that! They have a nice festival in the spring/summer.
Mayberry is much larger than I expected.
Absolutely awesome 💕 Y'all should go over to the Ava Gardner museum in Smithfield, NC. Not quite Appalachia, but in Eastern North Carolina. Johnston county. I am going when I go see my brother in Columbia, SC. I will make him drive up.😅 Florida cracker gal here. Love y'all. My church here in North Central Florida has lots of folks from up your way. I love them.💕🙏🙏🙏👍
Love this ...it was great !!
Thanks so much
I love all your videos, but, this one is by far my favourite one, I absolutely love the Andy Griffith show ♥
Wow, thank you! We are partial to it too because it is an amazing town plus it was our first town visit together on the channel :)
Hi y’all!! I’ve been wanting to go there!!
it is well worth the effort, you really should go
Don Knotts was a ventriloquist at first, and answered the Call of our Nation in WW2.
I've seen a picture of him holding a dummy. He must have led a very interesting life beyond the Andy Griffith Show
This was amazing. Sure would love to have one of those pork chops sandwiches. Lol
They're very good and very messy lol.
I had pork chops last night so a pork chop sandwich isnt very appealing to me right now,. 😂
Go back to Mount Airy for Mayberry days
We hope to do that
Awesome. That town reminds me of a lot of towns here in NJ. Our nearest town, which is about a mile or two from here, is only about half the size of Mt. Airy. The population is around 5000. It also has about 12 churches though.
Hey guys great video I have been there on 2 occasions I brought my daughter there when she was about 8 years old and she grew up just like myself watching Andy Griffith it was emotional.
I should have looked there for a wife at the time lol as I've commented in a method in other videos I wanna find a good country woman simple common sense.
35 to 45 with good morals.
I think I could easily retire around there and real estate is reasonable.
Cool, i live in Archdale NC and pass MT. Airy on the way to Beckley, i need to stop in there sometime
It is so worth it, trust me you’ll be glad you did
I like the whole thing this was great that straw hat you touched I think was Otis’s the only married guy on the show and drunk. Excellent filming and editing thanks.
Thank you for watching and the kind words
I would love to go there. My best friend got to meet Betty Lou there
Great job guys! 👏👏👏👍
Thank you
If you ask me hunt brothers pizza is excellent as long as whoever is fixing it doesn't f it up. The crust is good
I love the crust too
Great video guys. Thanks for sharing. Sadly none of those shows was neve made in NC. They all were filmed in CA on a backlot of a studio. Andy and Barney were truly great actors. Sadly they never got the credit they deserved.
"Where there'smoke, there's firewater." -B. Fife.
That Hillsville exhibit might be better than the one they actually have in Hillsville! Speaking of which, if you’re ever in the Hillsville or Galax area you MUST go to Harmons trading post… They have a huge museum in the back with, well, everything.
thanks for the heads up, we had no idea they had that. Definitely sounds like a place we will be checking out.
@@realappalachia The old courthouse in Hillsville is a museum now. Cool thing is there still bullet holes in various places
Great video. Gotta love Aunt Bea's pickles in the courthouse! One of my all time favorite episodes. My grandma made homemade sweet pickles. Oh how I miss her and her canning. ❤
Thank you, Melody and I both hate pickles so that episode hits home with us too
Don knotts was from morgantown, west Va.
A good one like always my two friends keep them coming
Thanks so much
When did Melody start joining you, ?
There was a water cooler but maybe not in that location except in the episode where Otis spiked the water and Barney and the Mayor got drunk just before the Governor was to visit
There was a water container between the cells but I think it may have been stone crock and dipper and then may to either a stone or metal container with a spigot. I believe there was an episode where Otis poured some shine into it, Barney drank alot of it unknowingly and was drunk while the governor was arriving to check out thd sheriff's dept.
'we don't sell sugar to moonshiners' My great uncle Eli 'Sugarman' Mullins would get all his folks to sell him their sugar rations to make his Moonshine. Wherever there's a will.... i reckon.
With a nickname like Sugarman, he sure didn't mess around lol
Mayberry Days, the last weekend every September.
Did Melody get thrown in jail for 3 days to straighten her out? Cool downtown and pretty busy and am glad to see people are enjoying life and not hiding in the basement like a certain person.
It would have took 4 or 5 days in the clink for her lol
Wow
You guys are awesome if you all are in Morristown or Jefferson City TN I would love to meet you guys
we hope to get down that way someday but our schedules are so crazy we usually don't know til the last minute. Thanks so much!
@@realappalachia 😁😁😁😁
Great video and interaction. Somebody has been Losing weight and getting fit.
I definitely plan to visit there but I certainly won't be eating at that restaurant.
Why not...it looked good?
I just to live in Mt airy 4 years
I bet that is great
here is the Real Mayberry....
ua-cam.com/video/1b7Htj1huQ4/v-deo.html....... you'll be surprised in 9 minutes!
For my birthday 2020 wife&sons took me there. Squad car ride and all.
Driven by an ex sheriff's deputy from there in Surry county. He knew EVERYTHING around town, and how!
Ethan the cook in the window in Snappy Lunch was the guy at AppState who taught my son ,also Ethan, his jobs at the Daniel Boone Inn up here in Boone.
as we walked in the door we hear "hey Ethan!" from behind the grill. He recognized him after 5 years.
GOTTA love a small town...🙃
I don't know the significance behind the porkchop sandwich but anyone that lives here the majority of the conversation about the porkchop sandwich is the fact that porkchop itself is like 70% breading and the porkchop and the breading on the porkchop itself is like three times the size of the bun. I've lived here all my life and I've only ate it once. Wasn'treally a fan of it. But I use to eat at Barnys quite often. They use to have a great Philly cheese steak. Snappy lunch restaurant itself doesn't even serve fries unless they've changed it. One thing I've noticed is down town MT Airy is slowly becoming less old fashioned and more like other cities downtown areas with a night life and ect. Living here your entire life you kinda get tired of the town dwelling on the past so much and you need change and advancement.
Funny you should mention it, after we ate at Snappy Lunch several local people recommended Barneys to us so we are anxious to get back there to try it
Malody what happen to your finger you poor dear bet that has to hurt blessings for you
Thank you! It’s better now! I was moving furniture and dropped some on my finger haha - Melody
Nothing about Aunt Bee...how come?
Oopsie
Aunt Bea lived in Siler City NC until her death. She was very private and despised when fans came knocking on her door.
We will not use you on the set
No wisteling
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 Smitty out 👋
You do know this is all made up Andy Griffith never liked them doin this but they paid him to do it so there you go
