I live in Eastern North Carolina. I was in Blowing Rock last weekend. I got on the Blue Ridge parkway in Blowing Rock and went over to Grandfather mountain. It was cold and rainy but still beautiful.
Thank you so much for doing this video. It gave me such joy to watch. I love how you incorporate the history into everything. This Blowing Rock/Boone area was on my husband and my list for this Fall. WE had so many plans, but unfortunately I lost him a few months back. I don't know if I will get to go now or not, most of my friends still work and I don't really want to go alone. This is why seeing this meant a lot to me. Done in the perfect time of year! Thank you again.
My home area! Know it well...I have caught many trout, some very big out of the stream there at tweetsie....caught a large brown trout just above the bridge there ,going into the parking lot ....the stream there, is the middle fork of the new river, which starts at a spring near green park inn.....thanks guys ....stay safe ...🙏
Blowing Rock is an absolutely beautiful place. I lived in Winston-Salem, NC for ten years and attended Appalachian State University in Boone. It is my very favorite place in NC. Remember me - I am the person who advised you of thirdary roads in WV. Remember Cigarette Holler. Ha!!
My dad's mother's family lines lived over in cherookw County by Murphy area in tge mid 1700's. Then those huskins, little johns, plots, conrads, shells, yates and stevens migrated up to Burnsville area before settling over the mountain in erwin and johnson city,tn areas. I also have jones and riddles from the hendersonville,nc area back in mid to late 1800's.
OMG! The Moses Cone mansion is gorgeous! But that view! Melody you are so right...a little cabin with that view would be all a person needs! I've been to Blowing Rock but never went to the other places y'all did. I have been living vicariously thru Shane & now the two of y'all because I'm no longer able to get out much. Y'all keep life interesting! The drive was beautiful with the changing leaves colors & the statue of Mothman was interesting! Stay safe & God bless y'all!
...just like the banter goin' on between you two while yer driving...love the way she says YES...BTW I did some axe throwing for awhile some years back and I liked it ..heck it's even on TV now so it must be getting popular.
Great video... we spend summers in nearby Sugar Mountain and we get to Blowing Rock often while we're up there. As you took a left at the end of downtown, you saw and mentioned The Speckled Trout restaurant. It's one of our favorites in the High Country and we've eaten there a couple dozen times over the years. Small menu, but everything they do, is fantastic! We usually stop first at their craft beer section, grab a beer and then head off to a great meal. We're heading up to NC shortly and we'll definitely hit the Speckled Trout several times while we're up there.
Western North Carolina is beautiful. You both do such a wonderful job of showing the area, and make it entertaining as well. Thank you so much and keep up the good work.
If you're ever in the area of Abingdon Virginia check out the VC trail. It's the former Norfolk & Western Abingdon branch from Abingdon, Virginia to Elk Land, North Carolina ( 56.2 ) miles. The Abingdon branch was operated by Norfolk & Western with EMD ( General Motors ) GP-9 diesels as far as West Jefferson, North Carolina in the 1970's until the last day of operation on 3-31-1977. Incredibly, the Abingdon was offered INTACT as a railroad but no deals were ever struck when sponsors learned of the maintenance costs on the lines' more than 100 timber pile trestles and bridges. The Abingdon branch is well known among rail buffs because of people like O. Winston Link who took the time to photograph and document where he lived and Trains' magazine which featured his photos of Norfolk & Western M class 4-8-0 steam engines. Freight stations are still extant in places like Green Cove.
we both live near Abingdon so we plan on doing a video from that trail eventually, for some reason we seem to show more places away than things close to us, we intend to fix that especially with the time change shortening our daylight. O. Winston Link was phenomenal, if I remember correctly a lot of his work is now held in Roanoke (i think?)
Shane & Melody- Thank you for this fall foliage tour. New to your channel. We are working farmers in Central New Hampshire Lakes Region. Our quiet rural town is population 2,000, but Blowing Rock is bursting with tourists! Reminds me of the small towns surrounding North Conway, New Hampshire. You did a great job of showing us the area. Jan Karon is one of my favorite authors. She describes a sleepier version of Blowing Rock. How much snow does it get? We are just coming out of being snowed in. We enjoy the four seasons, but sometimes I think I would like to retire to a small town that has milder weather in the winter. If you have email. I would be glad to send a few photos of our 350 acre farm ~ Diane
I just told a fib! This is the last comment. I hope that you tried the Daniel Boone Inn in Boone, NC for dinner. The food is out of this world. You will probably need to wait to get in the door.
I have to tell you guys I love the videos you put out an I'm from WV...im from just like alot of the town's you show...an when asked what am I doing when I'm watching a video..i say I can't hear ya im in whatever town your you are showing...an they just look at me funny....sorry so long a comment
I have wanted to go down to Blowing Rock for quite some time. I may be mistaken, but I thought the Mitford Museum opened there recently. The museum honors the Mitford book series by Jan Karon which I adore. I am not sure my health will ever permit my traveling to Blowing Rock, so thank you so much for your tour of such a beautiful area. Take care.
Oh my gosh, look at that cool train !!! Wow! I had no idea that was even there. Thank you for creating this very awesome Video!! You guys are so lucky getting to go to these great places !!! I love going along w you n sight seeing n taking in all the beautiful scenery everywhere you look !!! Be safe !!!
Many wealthy people have summer homes in Blowing Rock. Generally, they lived in Florida and come to Blowing Rock in the summer to escape the heat. Did you stop by the ice cream shop in downtown Blowing Rock?? If not, you missed something. The food, as I recall at Green Park INN is "out of this world."
I am always excited about Boone, Blowing Rock! It has always been a place for our family to visit, we certainly love to walk the Main Street in Blowing Rock! Also visit the Mast General Store in Boone , just a wonderful place to go! As always we enjoyed the video! Y’all do a wonderful job! I love hearing y’all pronounce those strange words! Be careful on your journeys!
thanks so much, Randy, we wish we could have done more walking on Main St but it was just too busy that day. We visited the Mast General Store too and it will be shown in a future video. Thanks a ton!
Hey Melody and Shane, I really enjoy your videos. You two are wonderful folks. Honestly, I feel like I'm taking a day trip with you when I watch your fantastic vids. Just a thought: I'd love to see your trips to some diners or restaurants so we can enjoy the ambience and your reviews of the food (as long as you don't disturb others who eating.) Travel safe guys.

Another great video👍🇺🇸. Keep em coming.
Thanks, will do!
The hill where the train passed is where many ASU students would steal lunch trys from the cafeteria and go sledding down that hill.
You all should check out the tree colors with some amber or yellow lens sunglasses. It makes them pop even more. Love your videos.
Such a great idea, thanks for sharing
