Everybody said he couldn't. Time and time again Eddie said he could. Today he showed the world that records are meant to be broken. That nothing is impossible or unattainable.

Even if Hafthor surpassed this today, I'm still going to hold this as one of the most legendary feats in Strongman. The sheer commitment, the drive in what was such a long and insane lift. If you've got the right genes and the right regiment, you can be stronger than Eddie Hall, but it would take way more to surpass him in the drive to be the strongest man, right here.

Yup i wanted to compare lifts...eddies lift definitely had more energy and excitement. Doing it in front of a crowd just adds a level of excitement that was missed during Thor's attempt. Either way they are both amazing feats of strength, congrats Thor for the 501 lift. In my opinion i would have liked to seen it being beat by more than 1 kg. I would have much preferred if it was 505 kg. 10 lbs is a good jump, even 5 lbs would have been better, but 501 kg is the new standard and i dont see anyone dead lifting more than Thor in the next couple of years

...What? People pass out all the time after they finish deadlifting regardless of the weight. Your blood pressure spikes when deadlifting and if you lower the weight too fast, the sudden drop in blood pressure causes light headedness/blacking out. People do the same thing after repping 2 plates and no one suggests that they'll die if they continue.

If you watch how smooth that weight went up, it's clear Eddie himself actually can do 510, 515 kg right now.
And competitive as he is, if he does something like 520 kg in a future competition, you can bet he will make plans to reach 550 kg.
I just won't go all the way and say 600 kg will be his next goal, because that might seriously be beyond the human body limits.

    •  7 років тому +3

+rick peener Disagree about that. The first time you lift a humongous weight, it feels like it's sucking the life out of you. But that's just the very first time.
On the very next lift, it feels way, way easier, partially because your body is now a bit more prepared for it, but also your mind has lost that fear of the impossible. You know you can do it, so you go a lot more confident towards it.
Eddie probably deadlifts multiple series of 400kg+ every time he hits the gym. I'd go as far as saying he probably does a couple of 460 kg+ lifts as well, and this is a walk in the park for him.
What is 40 kg more to a body that's used to lift 460 kg+ every week?
He didn't nearly kill himself on that 500 kg WR. It was just shock from adrenaline, and the "weight" on his shoulders of having to live up to his promise. His body can handle that.
