- According to US officials, Russia has likely lost half of its main battle tanks, if not more, during the fighting in Ukraine.
Most sources agree that since the beginning of the invasion the Ukrainians destroyed or captured more than 1,600 T-72s. The lack of sufficient infantry support or protection led to columns of Russian tanks move straight into Ukrainian ambushes.
Ukrainian small combat units can move to positions where they can attack Russian convoys, taking advantage of the terrain they are familiar with.
And these agile combat units are equipped with West's most advanced anti-tank systems. The FGM-148 Javelin is a state-of-the-art portable fire-and-forget anti-tank system that can lock onto and hit moving targets from a distance of 8,200 feet (2,500 meters).
One of the major contributers to Russia's desperate situation is the Saab Bofors Dynamics designed NLAW.
From the start of the invasion, Ukraine's locally manufactured Stugna-P anti-tank missile was acclaimed for its effectiveness.
The TOW missile, as the name suggests, is tube-launched and optically-tracked. It is a wire-guided missile that is manually steered towards its target by the operator.
The Ukrainians used more advanced weapons with a higher kill probability to hit these tanks to ensure that the entire column came to a halt.
Once a column was mobilized, Ukrainian forces could engage and destroy the vehicles sandwiched between the immobilized front and rear vehicles with less expensive weapons like AT-4s and RPG-7s.

Pretty sure I remember the SAAB rocket launcher also being useable from inside buildings without killing the operator thanks to a modern shockwave dispersal system. So while the range isn't as great as the TOW, it doesn't have to be fired from an exposed position.

I think the downward angle of attack was a factor affecting that shot too. The missile won't arm , so that you aren't, theoretically, on top of the tank when it blows up !
The NLAW just did not arm it was to close 20 metres needed. Probably saved the operators life. You can use top attack on armoured or direct on non armoured vehicles with an NLAW. It can be used at up to 45 degrees but needs 20 metre to arm. NLAW can armed and fired extremely quickly and can get at targets under cover as it top attack is flying straight over the target and firing a shaped charge through the roof of a tank. It will take out all tanks with this attack. Javelin cannot attack when tank is under effective cover as it plunges vertically on the target. The Javelin takes longer to arm but longer range and is a true fire and forget weapon it tracks the target whereas the NLAW is a fire and forget weapon but flies a predicted route and when over target detonates itself. You can fire an NLAW in an enclosed room with other soldiers present a Javelin has to be a great big room and will clear loose objects in the room. Javelin can take out low flying helicopters and has a far longer range. British army uses both because they each have their advantages. See here about the NLAW: www.saab.com/products/nlaw

That is true and the chances have lowered more since the Russians have figured out that it's not necessary to fill the turret with explosives.
The videos where turrets go flying have become much more rare since then.
No ATGM is guaranteed to kill a tank 100% of the time. For example, I have seen several Stugna videos where the tank did not seem to be severely damaged after a direct hit

Nothing is always perfect if something disrupted the missile say hit a machine gun or something else an extreme angle defecting it, it might not work as it should. The Javelin has a two part warhead one would clear explosive reactive armour whereas the second charge burns hole into tank and cooks it up. Some times the tank does not brew up and launch the turret there is just a hole. Crew are dead Tank disabled. The high pressure shock wave inside the tank is like being sledge hammered over your whole body! Wish Russians went home changed their leader and lived in peace. A lot less killing required!

T55s are not on frontline- they are used as artillery support and logistics to keep rear safe from sgr`s.
Also t72s are improved big time and have modern equipment on them. And tehy are not deployed in numbers even close to those claimed to be destroyed so its obvious propaganda bullshit. In fact there are more t80s and t90s then t72s.
Abrams was made to fight t72 same as leopard 2.
They were not designed to fight t80s and 90s and they wont be able to cope with them at all.
In fact leopard 2 a4 was tested against old t72 (not modernized) and it failed to penetrate it head on while t72 was able to penetrate it head on - tested in Germany after end of cold war.
That why they added extra armor and changed gun+shells on 5s and 6s. Once they found out those cant penetrate t90s and have hard time to penetrate t80s they made latest variant of a7 but its small number and extremely heavy so wont see any action in Ukraine.
@@goranstojkovic4629 Leopard 2 and Abrams have been continuously updated since their introduction and Challenger 2 did not go into production till 1998 long after T90 was introduced. Challenger 1 its predecessor had a 300-0 kill ratio against contemporary T72 and T62 during the Iraq war. Incidentally Oryx, (unlike Orkistan) only reports numbers based on photographic evidence and indicates a substantial number of T90s destroyed - and thats without the western MBTs being even deployed yet. The three main western MBTs are broadly similar in their overall capabilities and are more than a match for a T90 (which is essentially an upgraded T72) and the new super duper vapourware, rare as rocking horse shit, lada powered T14.

Leopard 2 variant 4 that is considered way better then abrams [a1m1] was tested by Germans after end of cold war against at that time best of t72s they got from ex Warsaw pact states and it proved to be no match for most modern t72 at that point. That why they had to change gun shells and armor so you got variants 5 and 6.
Same goes with a1m1. They found out in gulf war that even old t72s with original equipment on it can penetrate abrams tank head on and that is how m1a2 was created as upgraded version that can withstand hits from t72 including other tech improvements. Challenger 2s are not tested at all and if you want to talk about 1s then consider this - their only advantage even against old t62s is range of gun. In every other aspect its worse then most of tanks.
Tanks you talk about were created in early cold war era and entered service in 70s when their main "opponent" was t72. They were in process of creating tanks that would confront dreaded t80s but end of cold war stopped West in its developement. So upgrades were only made nit to counter t80s but to adjust to New "reality" of fast and sudden strikes on weak countries. T90 entered service in 1992 and the New tanks constructed around the world were in fact made to counter t80s and t90. But those New tanks are either not tested in real combat either not made in any significant number.
Underestimating any tank today is not recommended. But overestimating a tank Just because its made in West or east is more then stupid and can cost you big time. They are all designed with specific task to complete and if you cant understand that plz dont speak about it.

The tactic of stalling a tank or truck column by hitting the front and rear vehicles dates to WW2. The Russians' failure to anticipate and guard against the tactic was a pretty basic and deadly error. Having too few infantry to support tank columns is even more basic, that lesson having been learned in WW1. Even at the outset of their invasion, when the invaders were Russia's most experienced, the quality of tactical leadership was poor.

Ok the NLAW has destroyed 20 to 30 % of the Ukrainian tank kills, how many has Javelin taken? The Ukrainians have a multiple anti tank weapons Stugna P, TOW Missiles, Karl Gustaf’s so what percentages goes to each type. GPS guided shells must have accounted for quite a few, anti tank mines. Leopard Challenger and Abrams is going to be serious challenge although there will only be 28 Challenger II there. Leopards will make a huge difference with it firepower targeting systems and firepower. Abraham’s will be on the scene later. Leopard 1 will be there in large numbers with its 105mm Gun Leopard 2 with its 120mm with the full length barrel. Challenger II with its rifled 120mm barrel. Abrahams has basically the same gun as the Leopard but a bit shorter. All of these guns will destroy any Soviet tank. Normally before the Russian tank can take a shot.

The name RUS is a Norse name which means men that row; there are no men that row in Moskva. So Moskva adopted the name Russia while being a Mongolian vassal, essentially traitor to the RUS; and all the Czars were Mongolian-Finnish. Russia struggles with an identity crisis since its beginnings unoriginal to the ethnic groups. Its errors are numerous, 50 million killed by Stalin in WW2, allied to the Nazis to kill the Poles for their defeat in WW2, Holodomor where millions of Ukrainians were killed and grain stolen, and constant antagonist with Europe. We even have the Holy Mother announcing Russia’s errors at Fatima. Russia is a Mongolian culture and all the first Czars were Mongolian and Batu Kahn is the author.

Kiev was a city over 1000 years before Russia even existed. Kiev was Kievian Rus before Novgorod and when Oleg arrived. Putin is kidding himself if he thinks any part of Ukraine belongs to Russia. We can see that Israel belongs to the Jews, similarly all the lands around Kiev of Kievian Rus belong to Kiev as a single nation and city state. Russia's beginnings are a wanting child begun as a captive insurgency having nothing of its own; a captive state that was reeking in servitude to Mongolia and invented by Mongolia. The entire culture of Russia from Moscow is Mongolian centralized power, a pagan culture of no empathy and Christianity. The Christianity is tainted as a state religion or theocracy and politicized. History is often obscured by being written by the ones in charge. The history of Ukraine has been obscured by the Soviet Occupation and cultural appropriations. Moscow in an attempt to appropriate a history not its own, rewrote the narrative of history to cover up its compromised origins; Kiev and Ukraine is a history much older and more civilized; making contributions to civilization. Russian despotism becomes the blueprint, foundation & model for every despot nation, look at its allies; the error of its ways has spread throughout the globe; much like the message from the Holy Mother at Fatima. Those that are sympathetic to Russian atrocities can find similarities in their own histories. Ukraine has a democracy at a local level Moscow never had and fears. Russian boundless ignorance is a type often found in the poorest of nations, and usually the poorest have a history of the hardest tyrants over them that also inflict poverty, physical and spiritual, on others they attempt to subjugate, a reflection of their own lives, an abomination of desolation.
Askold was in Constantinople in 860 and Oleg arrived in Novgorod not until 862. The Arabs referred to Askold as the Slavic King or King of the Slavs which he had been for a while.
