I have watched the performance of this song over 30 times now. It is the BEST Elton has ever sung and performed. This is a master at work, playing the best music, working the crowd and actually enjoying himself. Doesn't get any better than this. EJ you are and always be the BEST!!!!!!!
Elton will never know how he got me inspired into taking up piano about 19 years ago. I left my husband due to abuse and want to start again on my cheap keyboard. Went to all his concerts in Little Rock.
Does it get any better than this? I'm an old guy and have seen a ton of live shows and the bigger the number, the more talent you need to have to pull it off and, well, talent wise, these guys are about as good as it gets. Just a flawless performance.
Love this piece! I saw this performed in early spring 1973 when he played the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh...Fog machines and all. Fabulous opening. And Dee Murray was on bass and he rocked it!
Saw this musical genius at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in the fall of 1973. It was during the tour of his Yellow Brick Road album. It was the most amazing opening of any rock concert I ever attended. Started out pitch black in Assembly Hall as the music began, then dim lights illuminating the stage revealing fog and a mock cemetery with headstones and the like and Elton beginning his piano piece. It still gives me chills to see Elton and his band perform this incredible song. Thanks for posting....
Without a doubt a modern day Mozart . Will be revered for centuries . Going to see him for the 4th or 5th time on the 23 rd of December in Sydney . I'm sure it will be epic
I absolutely love the enthusiasm and interplay between the two lead Guitarists on this song and during the entire concert. Longtime Musical Director for Elton John, Davey Johnstone and the extraordinary talent of John Jorgenson who later in the concert also provides a Sax Solo and even plays the Electric Mandolin
Love the piano in this and drums ... however the original words were I can't face another day, not last another day... does anyone else remember??? Still great version ... thanks for the many great years of music Elton 👍😘😘❤️
One of the few truly rock and roll/metal songs EJ still plays. It's nice to see the guitarists really getting into it. The riffs in this song are very heavy.
Man I'm fucking drained!!!!!!!!!!!! What a fucking performance of this song!!!!!!!!! Yeah, he's heavy on ballads, but can also ROCK!!!!!!!!!!! That's a testamonial to his creative artistic range. GO ELTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elton John - Funeral for a Friend (Love Lies Bleeding) I'm playing this for two great artists we lost in the last few months ! Bobby Keys R.I.P. Joe Cocker R.I.P.
This song is over 30 years old and this by far is the BEST version I have ever seen or heard live having seen EJ over 20 times thru the years. Congrats to Davey Johnstone for the concert prep and putting this incredible show together. Look and listen, this is Elton at his BEST!!!!
I picked the best tribute I could think of. If I could have performed this myself, I probably would have. The next few songs I chose would've been, "sorry seems to be the hardest word", & then, "Simple life", Vic.
2010 I was singing along to your song "i hope you don't mind " and at the end of the someone told me that's Elton John from 2010 to now almost everyday i listen Elton's music . My wife asks me why you like Elton so much ?
Look at the crowd..are they paralytic?!! I saw Elton in '74..and almost died when the gates opened in the stadium in Saint Paul,Mn. A GREAT CONCERT!! Quite the memory..can you see the glee in playing this one? Unlike any others.
each time i see this video i am amazed . i still havent made it to one of your concerts . i have loved this song since the first time i herd it . and i am so thankful for youtube to make it possible to see one of the all time rock songs being played by some of the greatest rockers ive ever seen . we love ya,ll stay young keep rockin ..
each time i watch this i am amazed by elton and his band . thank you you tube it has always been a dream of mine to see them this vid makes me feel like i am there at the concert with them . awsome
One of the best live album recordings of legendary masterpiece! The classical music influence in Funeral for a Friend is just amazing... but then to take it further and insert it into a Rock genre with a driving and emotional Love Lies Bleeding is just absolutely genius!
Carinae108 Oh my god !.......That guy is one of the greatest under rated guitar slingers ever ! He has to be the most in-demand studio guitarist on the planet.....Is he the player on the studio album cut of this ?......He seems to have nailed the tone perfectly ......It has to be him .
+jeffrey hinkel Yes Davey Johnstone is the guitarist on the original Album along with Nigel Olsson on drums, Dee Murray on Bass and David Hetschel on Synthesizer. David is the only musician not present on this performance it appears along with Backing vocalist Kiki Dee and Ray Cooper doing tambourine.
I was lucky that my dad played the goodbye yellow brick road vinyl because if he hadn't I never would've wanted to go see Elton John in concert and I'm glad I did because when he played this song the lights made the performers look like skeletons it was awesome!!
My parents saw Elton a month or so ago and they absolutely loved it!! I really wanted to go but it was either Elton or Stevie, and I had to choose Stevie. It was a hard decision though. Stevie just doesn't tour like Elton so I had to take advantage of the opportunity. Trust me, it was well worth it!!

Where's Nigel?
Does it get any better than this? I'm an old guy and have seen a ton of live shows and the bigger the number, the more talent you need to have to pull it off and, well, talent wise, these guys are about as good as it gets. Just a flawless performance.
Classically brilliant ...
The drummers on this track are absolutely amazing.
this is one the greatest rock and roll masterpieces of all time.
Just saw him in Nürnberg - Yellow Brick Road tour - he opened with this... UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE....
What makes this performance even more amazing is that Eltons stage monitors go out 7 minutes into the song!
There are no words adequate to describe this musical triumph.
I literally cried when I listened to this video. Such an emotional ride. So many memories/feelings of a lifetime.
Love this piece!
I saw this performed in early spring 1973 when he played the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh...Fog machines and all. Fabulous opening. And Dee Murray was on bass and he rocked it!
My favorite Elton song!

I saw Elton in the early 80s in Austin -- absolutely amazing concert. He is one of the all-time great rock pianists and composers.
500 years from now when they study the music of our
time this song will be the 1812 overture of our time ...
