Remember the Galactica is about 1.4km or 0.86 miles long, I just think it's good to have an idea of the scale of that ship for no reason at all. She's BIG.

While Baltar is definitely a coward, keep in mind that if he refuses they'll just shoot him and get someone else to sign, which he knows. It's easy to judge, having never had a gun to our heads.
Baltar has done a lot of heinous things up to this point, but I think for this one he shouldn't necessarily be blamed.

Tigh's speech about sending people on suicide missions is so good and coming from him is very genuine and valid. The guy has seen some shit. And he is not wrong. Remeber the Tylium refinery mission at the end of season one. They've lost a lot of pilots there and when Roslin asked Adama how dangerous is this, Adama said "It will have its price". He was talking about the pilots they will most likely lose. It's always good to remember that this is not just a war...it's a war for the survival of the human race. No method is too hars when you have everything on the line. His arc has been phenomenal so far and you haven't seen half of it whats in store for Tigh. He is my favourite characte rin this show and you will understand why. Also his friendship with Bill Adama is probably the most stable thing is his life for decades at this point.
That scene with the Adamas was really nice. I really like the Admiral, he is really open and lets himself convince if their argument makes sense. Roslin did that when they left the colonies, Dualla did that when he went down to Kobol and reunited the fleet, and Lee did it again. Also its really nice to see how far their relationship gone. Edward James Olmos is an amazing actor and I cant picture anyone playing this role ( maybe a much older Russel Crowe ). He has such a gravitas on screen and his presence commands respect. I've never for a moment questioned his authority in that position, the way he talks and carries himself on Galactica is just oozes authority. And I really like his attachment towards his crew which is in many cases frowned upon in the military but they are extremely loyal to him becasue they know he will be there for them when it comes to that.
Damn the subtitles are jumping the gun a bit here and I never noticed that. I own the Blu-Ray version so they might be difrerent though but it is entirely possible that I missed that little detail. Callsigns are attached to one particular person. The Sharon on Galactica is not Boomer, she is the one who was talking to Cally. It's a very important distinction.
This show gets really dark at times and I applaud them for it for not shying away from going these places, it allows for really good storytelling and with the characters and actors they had it ends up as a super high quality TV show and its a lot of fun to watch.
BTW, you have to pay attention to the tiniest details. The sound of those weapons at the end are important. :D

Oh, this was glorious. The discussion today was wonderful.
Mike, "Tigh is off the deep end. And it's beautiful." Truer words were never spoken. Michael Hogan is such a consistently good actor he often gets overlooked, but from here on out he surpasses even his A game. *Phenomenal* performance which he manages with only one eye to use.
That the three of you (mostly I'm talking to you Joe) get so riled up means the show is doing the job. Righteous indignation, and horrified disbelief at what people are capable of, out of fear or selfishness, is exactly what the writers want you to feel.
I'd like you to consider a couple of things.
    1. Gaius knew when he won the election that long term prospects on New Caprica were unsustainable, so he never even considered building infrastructure. NC was always a short-term solution. Where Gaius falls down as a leader is in not announcing that clearly at any point, and, in falling into self-destruction when Gina (the model assaulted on Pegasus) died. When the Cylons arrived, he'd been wallowing in grief by hiding in hedonism and the sight of Caprica Six does a lot to shake him out of it - but - now he truly has no options. The remainder of the fleet left, and the short-term tent city everyone was living in, suddenly looks like the rubbish planning Joe sees, particularly when the Cylons begin actual buildings.
And 2. Gaius is a genuine genius. He didn't realize how grim things WERE in the detention center (we see that very thing when Roslin confronts him with it at the beginning of the episode) until it's pointed out to him. He's aware that he can't do anything to overtly support the rebellion. He knows how hated he must be. He knows that there are no witnesses to any acts of passive rebellion he attempts. *Yet he tries it anyway* . Much like Michael Hogan has just levelled up his acting this season, so has James Callis. In many ways Gaius has been the *most* victimized human since the war re-started. He was the fool led into betrayal. He was the fool led into arming a secret cylon, who subsequently used the nuke to attract Cylons to an otherwise difficult to find planet. And now he's the fool in office, being bullied into ratifying war crimes. James Callis will act his *freakin' ass off* from here, and the self-loathing, inner conflicts, superiority complex, narcissistic, lonely, aspects of Gaius will astonish you.
As for Kacey and Kara, going by discord comments, you've already seen the conclusion of that arc, so the only thing to say here is thank you to Mike, for calling an obsessive, manipulative, cruel, gas-lighting, jailor what it really is - a domestic abuser. Kara quite rightly collects a LOT of mental baggage on NC.
Amazing episode. Wonderful discussion. You're all amazing and I enjoy sharing every single BSG episode with you.

That subtitle spoiler is annoying, Sharon wont gain the Athena callsign for a few more episodes.
Michael Hogan got some absolutely meaty monologues in this episode, Colonel Tigh is going to be a much more prominent character.

Agreed on Baltar. He may be doing nothing obvious, but he draws the spotlight that allows Gaeta to work in the shadows as the mole. If they shot Baltar and made Gaeta interim president he'd be much less able to pass on any intel

Caprica Six had a lot of clout four months ago when they arrived on New Caprica. Her views were a big reason why they agreed to try and "play nice". The problem is, they didn't do it right and now it's been four months of pushback and resistance bombings. So now the others, particularly the ones who weren't really into the idea to begin with, don't give two fraks what she has to say. Especially since she'll obviously say anything to protect her "pet human" baltar. That's why Doral shot her. Their whole organization is breaking apart because they have NO idea what they're doing. They're more like humans than they care to admit.
28:30 Thank you for saying that, Mike. The cylons remember every death and the downloading process is often traumatic as well. I can't even imagine going through that process over and over again. Then again, I'm irrationally afraid of death so maybe it would be therapeutic to experience it repeatedly? Either way, thanks for reminding everybody that it's not just a slice of pie in the sky for the toasters when they die.

It's not entirely true that Baltar yearns for ANY Number 6. He was in love with the version that became known as Caprica Six. He had no idea she survived (downloaded to a new body) until she walked into Colonial One when the Cylons occupied New Caprica.
He attempted to begin a physical relationship with Gina (the Pegasus Six) only because he was unaware Caprica Six still existed and he craved the continuation of a real, physical relationship with the closest thing he could find to his original lover - in essence trying to start a relationship with her s****lly abused sister. To the point of the settlement of New Caprica, he believed Head Six was some kind of manifestation of Caprica Six when - in reality - she is a completely different and separate entity.
Caprica Six's love for Baltar is what prompts her to try and convince the Cylons that they and humanity can co-exist peacefully in hopes that she can be with him again. Unfortunately, his displays of cowardice and self-centeredness as well as his ongoing depression over the situation on New Caprica prevent their relationship from resuming the way it was on Caprica. That and her ignorance of the influence Head Six has over Baltar (making some of the choices Baltar makes that put him into a bad light) makes her rethink the possibility that the two races can co-exist.
It's possible Baltar and Caprica Six could get back together, but in her mind he has to do a lot of growing up before that will ever happen.

MIKE, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Not Leoben!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Say it ain't so. Pretty please. I want you to like Leoben. Funnylilgal HATED Leoben. Hard as I tried I could not change her mind even after she watched the entire show. So I have little faith I can change your mind. But I want to try. Adama accurately nailed the traits of the Leoben models: They lie, they manipulate and the worse part is they mix the lies in with truth. Horribly crappy yes. But the most evil of the lot? Not even close. The Cavils are hell bent on destroying humans. He would save a few to make a zoo. And then burn down the zoo with everyone in it. The Dorals have no more good in them than their taste in clothing. The only 'good' Cylons are the two Cylons who integrated themselves in the fleet and had humanity rub off on them. As for Leoben he's somewhere in the middle. Not good. But not Cavil bad.
He is trying to achieve with Kara what Sharon achieved with Helo. Except he's going about it in all the wrong ways. He believes Kara has a destiny. He has already convinced the other models of that. ( Past dialogue from Dianna. ) He wants Kara to love him. And even her going stabby, stabby, stabby on him multiple times does not disillusion him from his desired goal: her love. The guy is not evil. At best you can say is the guy is twisted sick.

  • @sosayweall2509
    @sosayweall2509 3 місяці тому

I just feel the absolute *need* to rain on everyone's parade. The only way Laura stealing the election does any good is if they refuse to settle. If Laura had been in charge as President when the Cylons showed up, she'd either be backed into the same exact corner that Baltar is in *or* she'd have gotten all of humanity killed by refusing to surrender.
It's easy to call Baltar a coward or demonize the "collaborators" but what I love about this show is that the truth is a whole lot grayer. Baltar is not a willing collaborator and is not in that different a position than Gaeta. The scene with Tyrol hating Gaeta is really telling here because truthfully, everyone is making what they believe is the best decision for the good of both themselves and humanity. While I believe the Cylons never would have been completely peaceful "rulers" and the entire structure is wrong (there are spoiler reasons that reinforce how it could never have worked), we truly do not know what would have happened had humanity truly tried to cooperate. We know that at least a portion of the Cylons were truly dedicated to peaceful coexistence. It's *unlikely* to have worked but Tigh's and his rebels actions ensured there was absolutely zero chance of it.

Yes, Caprica Six is More Equal than others...
Insofar as Baltar signing- SOMEONE was gonna sign it. Not to mention, who would see his sacrifice? The other Cylons...? Also, remember how he was before Baltar went to his happy place, and when he came out, it was signed- did he sign it of his own accord? We've seen Head Six manipulate his body before...

The prisoners execution scene seems to be modelled after a similar scene in the historically-based 1963 film The Great Escape. The movie depicts a mass escape of British (and other allied) POWs from a NAZI camp (Stalag Luft III). Almost all the escapees were quickly recaptured, and most were executed rather than returned to the camp (a war crime for which the executioners were themselves, after the war, tried, convicted, and executed). As depicted in the movie, the escapees were being trucked back to the prison, told to take a dismount for leg-stretching break, and were then surprised to see a machine gun squad pre-positioned to kill them all. (Historically, the executions took place individually or in pairs, not en mass). In BSG, the prisoners are carried in a WWII style covered truck, similar to the movie's, and are likewise given an excuse to dismount before discovering that they are about to be machine-gunned.
    Dan.

@@andrewcarter9649 No! The election was at least NINE months after the fall, not 7 as originally conjectured by Lee. The first scene of 'Downloaded' says this implicitly. Add twelve months on free New Caprica then another four months occupied by the Cylons. That is 25 months.
'Resistance' takes place ten weeks after 'The Fall' of the Colonies (again, 'Downloaded' gives us this info), so 'The Farm' is a week or two after that, or say three months after The Fall - at most.
Without going into the possibilities of Cylon tech; just using human norms, we get the _possibility_ of a child who is only 13 months old. Therefore some kind of accelerated growth tech would _have_ to be used for Kacey to be Kara's daughter. That girl (Madelyn Parker) is at _least_ 20 months old and likely closer to 25 or 26.
