    I like to use Rustoleum to paint the holes. I find ir dries faster and thinnner thanlatex
    a neat trick I saw on the internet: Make a parint sample stick. Paint a dowling white, then add bands of different colors. Slide the paint stick into the hole and see how the color affects the blank.

    I was Amazed by the changing colors of the end results when painting the inside of the blank tube in different colors. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, its a privilege to learn from the pros!

    Rather than paint the inside of the drilled acrylic white, I like to mix the acrylic paint so it matches the color of the acrylic before I paint the inside of the drilled blank. I've never thought about painting it just white or even black. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks for the great video and I wish I'd watched it before I did my first acrylic pen. Also thanks for the pointer to the acrylic paints at Michael's, and the artistic dual color paint, with the lighter in the center. Very nice.

    It never occurred to me to paint the tube. Brilliant! Have you ever tried stripes in around the hole or up and down the hole?
    How long do you have to wait for the paint to dry?
    Cool.

      I have done half and half's like in the video. One full vignette. Never stripes. Let me know how it comes out. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks for making this video, I've always turned dark acrylics and never had an issue until today... Turned a light blue/green one and I can see the brass. Will try your method out, looks a great way around it

    You talked about light reflection. I can not imagine that this will make a difference but does it make a difference whether you use flat or glossy paint?

    • @markdreyer2865
      @markdreyer2865  2 роки тому

      I have never studied it. I use more of a flat (not sure there are sheens on the acrylic paints). I think the lesser the sheen the better the glue would hold - but never looked into this that long. As mentioned I use the Apple Barrel paint. Thanks for watching.

    Hello
    Just watch your video on painting the inside of the blank verses the tube. You used acrylic paint, I watched another that said enamel paint. I guess it depends on the glue. Can you clear up the kind of glue that won’t react to which kind of paint. Ie. CA glue or what do you recommend?

    • @markdreyer2865
      @markdreyer2865  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry for the delay I was on the MPG and that took all my time. I use acrylic paint (I believe from Michaels - Apple Barrel paints (Amazon has them also)). I have used testers but the acrylic paints do just fine and are more cost effective. I then use 5 minute epoxy - ALWAYS. I never use CA for the tubes (my gluing video - explains why). Five minute epoxy is better gap filling and not as brittle on tangential stresses. Hope this helps, sorry for the delay, thanks for watching.

    For my transparent acrylic blanks, I've started experimenting with white Gorilla glue and no painting the blanks. The glue produces an interesting pattern which is visible through the clear acrylic pen. I've used white painted blanks (using automotive lacquer because it covers with a thin layer), but will try one where the blank is not painted.

    What specifically are you painting black/white? The inner hole itself or the tube that inserts?? Or both??

    • @markdreyer2865
      @markdreyer2865  3 роки тому

      Just the inner hole. I don't paint the tube. Many people do, I just find that with the technique above I don't have to. Thanks for watching...

    How long do you allow the paint to dry?

    • @markdreyer2865
      @markdreyer2865  3 роки тому

      I usually let the paint dry overnight and then glue my tubes (different video) and let the glue dry overnight. I am set up to do "production" so I do 10 - 15 blanks at a time. Thanks for watching - hope this helps.

  • @topflight2358

    How long to let paint dry ?

    • @markdreyer2865
      @markdreyer2865  3 роки тому

      I generally let the paint dry overnight. I have had issues with anything less than 12 hours (the tube will slide). If I wait 24 hours I have never had an issue.

  • @rodneybeadon9176

    A problem i face is after painting the tube does not fit into the blank

    • @markdreyer2865
      @markdreyer2865  3 роки тому

      As mentioned in the video with the bigger tubes (10 mm / 10.5 / 12.5) I don't have an issue. With the 7mm I have an issue so I drill at 9/32". Let me know if you try it. I also only need a thin coat on the inside. Thanks for watching ....

    So you get to tell people what they do and do not want? Kind of egocentric to think that what you like is what everyone should like.
