I really hope this guy knows what he's got now because that 250 yz is a rocket ship I hope he doesn't hurt himself, it's a way different ride from that quad js.
You can tell right away it's an 03/04 by the non-reservoir shocks. Wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't rejetted. You'll need to drill out the brass plug on the bottom to adjust the AF screw. Last item is the intake valves on the 400's are notorious for cupping, and thus tightening up. Valve train seems a little noisy, may want to reshim.
Tip, if you wet sand the plastic, with, 600 or 800 grit, sand off the white, or the sun damage, before using heat gun, get much better results. However if the white on the plastic is stress marks from being bent, or flexed. It's much hard to fix those areas. But the sanding first, removes the faded plastic, versus melting in, as the white, is due to the color gone from it, and better results remove buy wet sanding some of it off. There's also colored rubbing compound, that you can buff, burnish in. Helps with restoring aswell. Also there is a marine, oxidizer, you can buy to buff into the plastic. To help getting color back, meguiars blue bottle
Using a heat gun is a temporary fix. Like if you are selling it and want it to look better. You are literally bringing the oils in plastic to the surface.
You did a good trade, Joe. Nice job, man. That ATV looks like it's a monster. It's a keeper. Nice video as well. Glad you got a big piece of land to ride on now. Peace, man.
A couple things about this quad Joe. On the top of the swing arm the long weld across below the round black plug check for cracks. Also the ltz400, dvx400 and kfx400 are the exact same quad just different plastics so parts should be readily available. These are nice quads enjoy.
Yeah I never knew they were same but they definitely look the same. Also when he zooms in on the drain plug the Frame had a sticker that said mfg by suzuki motor company. I had to rewind to make sure I saw that right.
Tip to anyone watching: It is fair to offer to cancel the trade "if he doesn't like it" BUT always make a within-clause. Say "We can cancel the deal if you don't like it until the end of this week, given it is the same condition as now. If I've made changes/improvements to the quad in the mean time I'll charge you for them". Never leave an open-ended deal like this. He may come back after 2 years and demand you to take it back after you've fixed his bike.
@@Thai.H Exactly my point! You don't really own the quad if you make an open-ended deal like that so it isn't yours to sell. He can demand you to pay for the quad and you may get a totally worn down bike in return.
he might not know much about 2 strokes but he stated he road a super moro bike so probably a 450. yes they are completely different machines but they have very similar hp.
I’m actually the owner who traded him and can say that road it last couple days and just gonna learn the bike because it’s a totel different level then my wr450f
I'm sure you've had great success so far with your chain tension but to lose like that will cause chain walk at high speed and it COULD rub a hole in the case.. my personal preference is ratchet strapping the rear down so the shock is half compressed and tighten it untill I have about 3/4 inch up/down play.
You should invest in a 3 inch MaxShine rotary polisher and some cheap SPTA 3" pads and compound those plastic parts clean. Nothing does a better job for brightening and removing ground in dirt and oxidation. Keep up the great videos!!
That yz250 you swapped is worth 4-7k depending if its original or if its a ground up resto here in australia. Obviously the bike market is much bigger in the us. But yeah its a totally different market where certain bikes fetch big dollars here and its much less common to come across a great or even good deal
I have had over 200 atvs over the years and found SOS pads and elbow grease is the best cleaner for any plastic!! It will feel rough at first keep scrubbing till it feels smooth just like if you're sanding for a paint job !Trust me i have brought back some terrible plastic to looking new!

I have an 04 KFX 400 I've had it since 05 it was a great reliable bike I got a speeding ticket at the Oregon sand dunes cop said he clocked me at 99 mph on the beach apparently it was a 25 mile an hour zone. I have also jumped this bike approximately 35 ft in the air and landed on the opposing hillside to a pillow landing these things are really amazing. I used to ride with 2 buddies who had 05 Polaris predators 500 both were Troy Lee editions and in order to keep up with them I had to go down a tooth on the front sprocket and I believe I went up a tooth on the back sprocket or vice versa it's been too many years now and once I did it it stayed I did lose my ability to wheelie but I like the handling overall. these bikes are a lot of fun and very reliable. I know the Suzuki LTZ 400 is the identical bike but it came in orange or yellow. I let an ex girlfriend ride this KFX 400 of mine and she was screwing around on the road and end up getting the tires to catch and they shot her off a 200 ft embankment one of my buddies on his predator ended up tracking me down saying hey your bikes in a tree about 40 ft in the air we went back with a chainsaw and a come along and a few chains to find the bike further down the hill apparently the tree just wouldn't hold it up in the air like that the girlfriend was fine little bruise but okay took four and a half hours to recover that from the ravine and surprisingly when we got it back up on the road she fired right up and continued to run for 12 more years without an issue. I know this motor was also in a few of the dirt bikes from that same era in Kawasakis and in Suzuki's. This was a totally fun watch and it makes me want to get my quad running again. Keep up the good content looking forward to the next ones. Also one other thing it felt like I was always topped out on that bike she drifts around corners really well though. Even at 75 80 mph and for that reason she's been flung off the road a lot but she has stayed together it is truly a tough bike I think I've even got some fraim damage from the ex's accident but she still tracked great.
Get the automatic cam chain tensioner out of there and replace it with a manual CCT. The auto one is know to stretch the chain and cause problems on those particular 400s
You can save those plastics easy. I know sanding is everyone's least favorite thing but I'd wet sand it with 4-600 grit. Then hit it one time with some 1500. Alittle heat gun action and some baby oil.
Awesome quad. I scored a low hr 06 LTZ, few months back. That short stroke engine totally rips. Yes the sus is very firm. I’m 210 & it’s still feels a bit harsh for me. I think the KFX & LTZ’s are right up their with Raptors as far as performance, handling & fun factor.

this is a phenomenal trade here (I'm only 7 minutes in) for BOTH of you, First 250 2 stroke? He's going to LOVE that bike!! And that quad, oh baby that things will be super sweet!
I had a mint 87 Honda cr250 back a few years ago. It was a badass machine but my feet couldn’t hardly touch the ground on it. I still miss the power I just wish they were shorter
That's amazing! I always order everything from USA so it's not a big deal (only waiting time for the shipping 🤷🏻♂️) but otherwise those are very reliable fun machines with reliability and huge aftermarket support! 👌🏻
i think the kid got the better deal but that just makes me respect you more giving someone that just wants to ride bikes with his buddies a really nice bike! Youre a good man.
As for the tick, they all do it and the bars look like the cheap ones on Amazon which are perfectly fine and good quality but the webbing tends to frey and tear easily...
Just a Suzuki z400 bud U have had one… I have 2 07 and 09 fuel injection Make sure u watch timing chain and valve alignment I have mine tore apart replacing and These are one of my favorite quads
For sun draped plastic i use heat gun and crispen the color out and then wip it down with rubbing alcohol after its done and use 220 grit sandpaper on it with water and it comes out factory again usually depending on pressure
Ahhh there’s the white Range Rover. I had a KFX400 for a while. Awesome machine, tons of fun. A little bumpy compared to the Honda 400exs, but tons of power.
I don't think that's rev limiter. Check Jetting and read the plug. Stock jet is 130. With just a slip-on, lid on, 135-140. Jetting with airbox lid removed should jump to a 140, maybe 145-150 with a slip-on. 155-160 with full exhaust and removed lid. My LTZ with a Full exhaust, removed lid and Cams is running a 160 at 1000ft sea level. Adjust accordingly. That airbox corks these up pretty good. Also, it looks like your missing the O-ring inside the oilfilter housing. Hard to tell exactly. It sits over the nipple and seals the inside opening of the filter to the case. The top end end sounds maybe just a little noisy. Defiantly check lash. The cam over-bucket design makes a little more tick than other lifter designs. You'll need a shim kit to adjust..
I used to do the same thing with the heat gun you have to get more of the oxidation off there are some good videos on UA-cam . There's a guy working on cleaning up a gas tank XR250. You can really buff up the plastic. You put too much heat on with the heat gun you burn the plastic. I enjoy your videos you're getting pretty good.
You should try wet sanding the rear plastics. takes slot of time but it works a treat with factory plastics. Start with atleast a 500 grit wet sand. More if needed but 500 will take off just about everything. Work your way up to 2000 grit wet sand. Clean very good then polish with a mcquires wax or some kind of wax
Cool bike. I usually spin the wheels/sprocket while it's off the ground in the rear to try and get the chain to ride centered on the sprocket, similar to adjusting the track on a snowmobile. Good stuff!
One of the best motors around, my drz400sm gets beat in the pits and streets all day long, 25,000 miles of hard riding and early oil changes. Are buddy has the kfx and man there just so nice
Rule number one, watch the whole video before you comment......looks like just excess oil from the filter.....lol......You seem to like the bike, and if you plan on keeping it you I would check the casing, and highly recommend the jet kit. you can get rid of the air box cover and let it breath a little better. These are the fastest bikes, but great trail bikes....... again, thanks for the content awesome channel, I watch your stuff a lot.
Just curious if the valve adjust took care of the ticking noise.. my ltz sounds the same way just ordered a shim kit to do it.. I scrolled all your videos trying to find a part 2 lol😂
hey when you are trying to clean up plastics try using an SOS pad I used to use one on my 88 warrior to get scratches out and to clean mud and dirt out of them. so give that a try next to see how that works and i used to use furniture polish {pledge} on plastic to. hope this help ya keep the videos coming
You have a ton of good comments, only thing I would say is all deals are final, your a honest dude if he watches your video he would know.and u need too watch is body movements he was nervous for some reason.when I'm fair too but I try to be in control of the deal.
Have had my ltz400 for a few years, I’ve done the valves and all bearings besides that the timing chains can be annoying don’t go cheap lol my biggest complaint is the stock A arms they are a death trap they are meant to be broke and replaced as a whole unit, I highly recommend getting aftermarket a arms or do the 1989 geo tracker ball joint mod
At 31 years old My first 2 stroke is my quadracer lt250r. Growing up i only had 4 strokes lt230 400ex 450r just to name a few but now that I have this lt250r I love it to death I will keep it forever and give it my son when hes ready
Sometimes in winter you can get a lot if condensation in them they get hot and then shut down, they'll actually make oil look full of water but it's really not.
Big respect ot the channel and all the good comments...I got so excited after watching that kfx ripping the field, so I bought one for me. In my country the choice was not great so I paid 3400 USD. it is crazy but the LTZ 400 costs eaven more!
I have fixed tons of ltz400’s and kfx400’s (same bike) the sound you hear is the timing chain. It needs a new timing chain and guide. Would also replace the tensioner spring. You also forgot the oring for the oil filter.
Try soaking the plastic's in armor all.& WD-40 rubbed in to presoak for about 20 minutes lightly wipe off the access film residue. Then look at it the next day.
That's a nice quad man. Around where I live (It's always warm here) that YZ you traded goes for a lot more than $1200. I think you made a good trade thanks for the video.
I had 2 troops that worked me in Utah in 03 that each had new ones, they were Hella fast. I Houghton they were fun to ride, kinda compact but nice quads.
Needs new rear tires and that'll stop the hitting the rev limiter so much. I had one and some itp holeshots work great on that bike. And good luck breaking it!!🤣😍 They are tough bikes.
Hey boss the Ltz 400 kfx400 and I think polaris did a 400 with this same platform. Great trail machine. Good trade I'm a dirtbike guy myself but if the terrain is bad enough I will ride a quad. Good find. 500 bucks intimidating it for new plastics and your golden
I have just started watching your videos about a couple weeks ago and have been catching up like crazy and just loving it and also I just love Vinny the dog he is great I watch all the commercials so I hope it is helping your channel
Do the heat gun treatment 2 or 3 more times. Even sand it with 1000 first. You can heat the plastics with the heat gun and immidiate spray with plastic restorer.
Check air cleaner, might be packed inside. Sounds good though. The one guys that I always work on has fmf power core 4 on it, loud as hell but fun to ride. It's air filter oil. Over loaded but yeah.
Nice trade joe once you tidy this up a little it should fetch good money if you plan to sell it great video mate runs great all the best to you and the family I think vinny likes more space lol need to move some of them 🔧🔧🔧👌👍😉
Nice trade Joe, please replace that battery. That lead on the pos, post. Tells me something has shorted, wether it's the hold down strap, you fixed! Or overheated battery!! BTW. it's time for a ballpeen hammer, use the claw hammer on your home, c'mon Joe!! Another great video!!
I've seen dirtbikes take a long time to clear up. Is there anything we can do to speed that process up? Seemed like a good deal and I'm glad he got to experience a 2 stroke cause they are so much fun.
2 strokes naturally load up when cold start and when at idle for given time. Leaning them out isn't gonna help anything other than help you spend money when it blows up from running lean. Clear them out and will be fine. They aren't made to peter around, open it up!
I really hope this guy knows what he's got now because that 250 yz is a rocket ship I hope he doesn't hurt himself, it's a way different ride from that quad js.

I think those are factory nerf bars Joe, my 2005 had the exact same ones on it!!
The only issues I've really seen with those is valve adjustments and rear axle hubs and internal bearings bad rear calipers.

These are the fastest bikes, but great trail bikes....... again, thanks for the content awesome channel, I watch your stuff a lot.
That'll do it to. It sounds like the carburetor is kinda loading up on take off.
You should be covering that skid steer. Keeps the electronics away from the weather elements.
Those look like DG alloy nerf bars, have the same ones on my kfx 700.
You made out on that trade, great quad! A couple customers that have those, very powerful for a 400cc. Enjoy.
love your videos mate , takes me back to my younger days i can allmost smell the exhaust fumes
Or use pure linseed oil.& Armor all instead. I'd pick the second option myself truthfully for it.
I have fixed tons of ltz400’s and kfx400’s (same bike) the sound you hear is the timing chain. It needs a new timing chain and guide. Would also replace the tensioner spring.
You also forgot the oring for the oil filter.
Ya know not only is this good content it’s also good that you record every since people on Facebook marketplace can be sketchy sometimes!🤙
Man it a blast to see you ripping on the quad,Thanks for braving the cold for this video👍🏼👍🏼
It's cool that you showed the deal taking place! Put more of that in your videos.
The suspension might be stiff due to the temp outside. I would wait to see if it is the same come spring.
Keep the hoses and pressure washer in the warm house and then you can use them all year around.
I have just started watching your videos about a couple weeks ago and have been catching up like crazy and just loving it and also I just love Vinny the dog he is great I watch all the commercials so I hope it is helping your channel
Damn cuhh you pumpin out the content!
That's the stock OEM filter that was in there, so looking great Joe...
One thing I’ve always wondered is should you take an oil measurement with the dipstick screwed in or not because it’s 2 different readings?
Do the heat gun treatment 2 or 3 more times. Even sand it with 1000 first. You can heat the plastics with the heat gun and immidiate spray with plastic restorer.
Check air cleaner, might be packed inside. Sounds good though. The one guys that I always work on has fmf power core 4 on it, loud as hell but fun to ride. It's air filter oil. Over loaded but yeah.
Nice trade joe once you tidy this up a little it should fetch good money if you plan to sell it great video mate runs great all the best to you and the family I think vinny likes more space lol need to move some of them 🔧🔧🔧👌👍😉
There seems to be a ticking sound coming from the head “ it’s the timing chain or timing chain adjuster” I have a ltz400 and had the same issue
It is easy to see that you are more comfortable on a four wheeler 😎great video!
Must love that cold air! Everything I own goes hard when its below zero out.
It's got a pipe so when you adjust the valves put a bigger cam in it. Maybe it'll stop hitting the rev limit so quickly.
That thing looks so much fun, that was a good trade!
I've seen dirtbikes take a long time to clear up. Is there anything we can do to speed that process up? Seemed like a good deal and I'm glad he got to experience a 2 stroke cause they are so much fun.
Leaner pilot jet and drop the needle jet down a clip position.
2 strokes naturally load up when cold start and when at idle for given time. Leaning them out isn't gonna help anything other than help you spend money when it blows up from running lean. Clear them out and will be fine. They aren't made to peter around, open it up!
@@shawnsatterlee6035 I was always told oil mix is 32:1 but he said 40:1 is 32 not right? And too “lean”
Love your content buddy. Never change a thing!
"ill give you it back if you dontlike it" joe your too kind! :) you knew he would be happy with the YZ tho
That's good trade I had one of them quads they pretty fast
Hey Joe I notice there was no rubber o ring the oil filter...there must be one on there on the inside
Awesome trade my opinion is the 400's are the best trail quads
Keep up the good work my friend I really enjoy watching your channel
Same engine as in the DRZ400. They tend to be a little on the noisy side up too anyways
This actually ended up being a solid trade. That dude got one sick bike as his first two stroke lol
Great video, you did well on the trade. But easy on the rev limiter man!
