To be fair, if you both already agreed on a price beforehand he shouldn’t have reneged and went back on the initial agreement. “I know we said $1k but I have others offering more” is pretty scummy

@MTO, make no mistake about it, Joe knew exactly what he was doing by buying this rare jewel, jacked price or not. I owned 2 of them which I bought brand new for me and the ex; sold them both for more than I bought them for! Footnote: Ex didn't get a dime from the sale😅😊🎉
Yep I had someone try that on me once. I called the guy asked if they still had the computer parts he said yes I arranged to come pick the parts up. When I got there I was asked to come in and went to look at the parts. When I got to the room there was another person sitting on the bed in the room. I am now informed this other person is also wanting to buy the parts and they offered more for the parts than what they were listed for in the AD. I thought oh boy a scam for sure. So I said hmmm well ok I think now that I have seen how things are going down here the best I can do for price is $50 if that's good we have a deal of not that's ok as well. I walked out with the parts for $50 and before I got there and talked to the guy we had agreed on $140 for the parts. It made me mad that they tried to jack the price up by trying to scam me so I low balled in hopes he would reject the low ball offer and I could move along with my day. In the end I got parts that were worth more than $50 used the memory in my own system and sold the rest online for $40. I didn't think jacking the price up for the rest of the parts was good even though I could have got $150 for the cpu mainboard power supply and assortment fans and 2 hard drives.
@@allan9603oh I don’t doubt he still got it for a decent price. But I just believe if you make a deal with someone then both parties should honor it. I buy and fix atv’s too and if I went to buy one for $1,000 and we agreed on it beforehand, then I’d be tried to come back at me saying “well this other guy said he’d pay me more”, where’s the honor in that. His word isn’t worth anything after that point.
It's a good practice. Next time, pull all the plastics off. Pressure wash The whole bike. Before you start working on it. And Clean the air box out. And the filter before starting it. Easy fix. Runs good.
You gotta start hitting em with the “it’s a lot rougher than the pictures show” than when they say “I have x y z people wanting to bring me x y z” you hit em with the “yea, but they haven’t came and looked at it yet. They’re gonna see the same things I’m seeing and you’re just gonna have to deal with more people instead of just me”
Hey Joe, a tip from an old-school mechanic; when you have spark plugs that are difficult to remove, use a length of 3/8” fuel tubing over the ceramic end of the plug, and you can remove the plug, after breaking it loose. This will help prevent breaking the ceramic. It also helps with initial installation. Great job with all of these machines you work on! Have you ever considered getting a parts washer? My OCD goes nuts, seeing dirty parts being put back on the machines… 🤪
The dirt thing makes me crazy too. Just cleaning it before opening an entire top end would be so smart. Get sand and dirt mixed in the oil , say by compression and many other things
@jerrymarshall2728 The MAC tools glorified version of the 3/8 hose is "MAC SPS1". For just 10X the cost of the 3/8 fuel hose the MAC spark plug starter works just as well and if you use it daily for years you will remember the part number. ;)
I'm with you blokes. The cleaning thing just drives me nuts sometimes. So much easier to work on clean bits and pieces. Saying that, I really enjoy the vids.
I know a lot of the reputable automotive channels test lack of fuel or spark testing by introducing some carb cleaner via air intake port. If you hear the engine engage even for a short time, you've proven there is spark and practically nail down the problem to fuel in 1 step without the aggravation of tearing out plugs especially weird setups like in this video. it's a good idea to find out early if your risky purchase is worth continuing to salvage. Your videos are very interesting by their nature. You've def earned my subscribe, I've been watching quite regularly and I don't own any toys like these!
I like what you've done with your driveway, you'll really like it this winter when it comes to moving snow. It's not cheap to asphalt an area that size. I did mine about 10 years ago and it was $25k. Can't imagine what it is now.
I was doing asphalt work this past year, roughly just a simple driveway that's about 30 yards in length is about 50-75k depending on where ur at in the country.
Great video, bud. I really enjoyed this one. In 2010, I bought a new 2008 trx700xx, and my buddy bought the outlaw 525 irs. We have countless hours of ripping together on these machines. Hearing that sound brings back a lot of good memories. I weigh about 100 lbs more than my buddy, and that pretty much evened us out up into 3rd gear. Through 4th and 5th I had him licked, but in the tight trails, the outlaw had less understeer. With sprockets and close attention to tire pressure, it was a pretty even match.
I love to see you getting rare atvs and fixing them, but I like how your fixing it up other than mechanical issues, I’d love to see you make more videos of cleaning and restoring them like plastics lights frame motor and ect.
Love the outlaw, I gave some thought to your issue with the hovercraft and it seems that if you flip it on it’s side , then put the trailer under it and flop it back down it should land on the trailer
Absolutely mesmerised that on every build you don’t swill the bike, quad down before working on it. We are not talking detailing just getting the crap off. Years of accumulation then you pull the plug or the carb or valve covers and all that shit is only going in one direction down.
Nice! Tip for paint stripper..After you brush it on thick take some painters plastic and stick it to the panel. It will keep the stripper from evaporating as quick. A little sunlight to warm it won’t hurt either, but don’t let it get too hot and dry out.
Something you might try and getting out a spark plug after you loosen it take a piece of rubber hose and push it over the spark plug and turn the hose. It works very well.
I had the KTM525 SX motocross bike with the 4 speed gearbox, man that was a weapon, I finally sold it because it was just too much bike to handle. So yeah I can confirm that 525 rips when its tuned properly. Good job man, keep it up.
I could see bed liner material sprayed on a rough hunting or farming machine that "should be the ones experiencing such abuse", but I like the red and white on the racing machine, looks sporty.
Invest in a 14mm & 16mm thin wall spark plug socket for the newer Polaris stuff. It’ll definitely make your life easier. If you ever work on a 550 or 850 you gotta have a 14mm thin wall. Regular 14mm won’t fit down the hole.
If you're going to do the plastic sand blast it fine grit wet/dry to finish it up any plastic broken put paper staples in soldering gun cut of excess couver with melted zip ties does a good job
09 525 owner as well. My motor sounds exactly the same as yours, researching it people says its normal. If it's extra clunky there is a nut easily accessible behind one of the engine covers that has a tendency to unscrew. When I checked mine it was loose, used some lock tight on the nut and tightened it back up, definitely rattles less.
I used the same paint stripper on my back deck. Didn't even bother scraping. I let the stripper do its thing and then used the pressure washer to blast the paint off. The gear ratios on that outlaw are pretty tight. Almost can't even tell you're shifting gears. Ive got an 06 predator 500. Thinking i may have to find me a solid axle outlaw next. Lol.
What I used to do is take the tank off and I made a little make shift bottle tank with a see through fuel pipe that would hold a pint of fuel and hook it on the handle bar while testing everything .... So much easier 👍. It can be used for any machine
The decompression valve on every Honda I’ve ever owned as well as the Predator I raced made a loud ticking noise. Concerning at first. My comment was right in the middle of the video so that clanking may be coming from another source. Just food for thought. Great video so far by the way man
These were awesome quads back in the day. Cool graphics came stock too. Also came with fox shocks. My buddy had itp mudlite sport tires on his. Made it pretty unstoppable
I used to have an 09 outlaw. I didn’t have to do any modifications to it at all and it was pretty much almost faster than anything else out at the dunes. I loved that thing. Sorry I sold it.

Going to look great when you get all that bed liner off. Those plastics look really good. I will never understand why people put that slop on good plastics. Was never a KTM fan. The engines always sound clunky. Hopefully you can get it all dialed in. Thanks for sharing.
The black paint used on the plastic guards looks like the rhino type coating that they spray utility vehicle trays with: kinda like asphalt/ tar: really sticky and hard to get off. Ordinary oil-based black paint is nowhere near as difficult. You've done a great job bringing it back. 🙂
Watching you go over it here the first 8 minutes or so.. you say it's nice to see the hole they left cut out to get to the radiator cap, that's really nice.. considering a Polaris is like the WORST thing to work on, normally you have to take ALL the plastics off to even do a spark plug on them, man.. that is really nice. Maybe they FINALLY listened to angry customers!!
I agree the only time I’ve seen the price go up on the asking price is when there are other people there interested and they start bidding on the machine
Or when someone under prices something and he has a ton of interest in it. I mean this guy didn’t owe Joe anything lol. He’d be crazy to not get more cash if he could.
The coolant was low, not full. If that had a coolant overflow recovery tank (which it likely did), the coolant would of been at the very top and a bit dripped out when you opened it. If the overflow tank had coolant sitting in it, there is likely a leak or the radiator cap bad and not allowing coolant to be pulled back into the radiator each time it cools down.
KTM continued them as KTM for a while… the oroginal manufacturer was, I think, cannondale or so. you have the XC as cross country. So narrower, softer, reverse and so on. Then there were the SX models as pure MX with wider and lower stance and the SX 450 or 550 motor.
I had an 08 525S (before the face lift). They will not do 80mph if it's stock gearing. Mine did 75mph: however, it got there very quick. Very fast quad out the hole with a ton of torque. Great quad overall.
Just finished watching the rest of the video. And you should definitely bump down the main jet. Mine was running the same exhaust and a modified intake (much better and more air than anything they sell aftermarket for these quads) and I was running a 170 main. 210 is way too big. Also, remember to do the valve adjustment, though it doesn't sound like it needs it too badly, it's very easy to do on them.
@@dat525s Sorry but I am calling BS. These quads do not do 80mph on stock gearing. You either had a GPS that was uncalibrated, going down hill, or both.. 76mph max is what I have read on the old Outlaw and predator forums back in the day. I guarantee if he does a top speed run he's going to land between 74 & 76. Like I said, mine did 75mph and I was on a custom built KTm XC intake with a huge k&n filter.
Love the videos I remember you picked up a 08 KX 250 Kawasaki carburetor bike my dad would like to find one I’ll like an Suzuki RM 250 CR 500 Honda 490 or Jason nice ATV. Keep it up brother.
Joe that carburetor sounds like it could A good ultrasonic cleaning and adjusting it has more throttle power than that on take off and on top end during shifting trough gears to. Try adding in some fix fast from eagle STA-BIL fuel stabilizer fuel treatment with some gumout octane booster mixed together. For some cheap riding fuel blended that's ethanol free 100% gasoline fuel. Even if it's A premixed.,or it has A separate oil tank for mixing it into the carburetor through the intake manifold. From the oil tank oil pump line off of the vacuum vent tube.
Great find i bought one of these brandnew off shoeroom floor when they first came out but mine was the 500 then later in this style came loved it an i knee that thing was gonns pop up on u like it did while doing donuts lol deff nice bike
I got one that i bought off a buddy has less then 15 hrs of ride time on it still to this day he put alot of aftermarket parts on as well full yoshi center exit exhaust titanium and fox evolution shocks on front fasst flexx bars etc i have all the stock parts even original wheels and tires minty and sand paddle wheels and tires along with title etc.
Quick tip: The stripper you are using isn’t very good. Recommend you use Jasco instead. Some of the aerosol stripper’s aren’t too bad. I’ve seen rustoleum and permatex brands on plastic works ok and less mess. Mar-Hyde aircraft coating remover is good stuff as well, paint just peels right off.
Think you got a very good deal, and a little elbow grease and clean, paint, polish, will look pretty good, and definitely not much into it, should be able to flip or trade and a good increase.
I picked up 2 Outlaw 525 IRS's a few months ago. Replaced some suspension parts and sent them on the Hatfield McCoy trails. 10/10. You can ride these quads all day and not get beat up, while pulling 3rd gear wheelies and jumping every obstacle. I have a KTM 525 dual sport with 20K miles so the engine is solid!

Short piece of rubber hose slide over the end of the plug makes a great way to put plugs in and out.
Also, remember to do the valve adjustment, though it doesn't sound like it needs it too badly, it's very easy to do on them.
my 08 hits 83 14t front sprocket 37t rear, ct exhaust, k&n intake, 160jet haven’t got it on a longer road to really max it out yet
@@dat525s refresh my memory on the stock gearing for these
@@racequad914/38 I hit 81 with that gearing
@@dat525s Sorry but I am calling BS. These quads do not do 80mph on stock gearing. You either had a GPS that was uncalibrated, going down hill, or both.. 76mph max is what I have read on the old Outlaw and predator forums back in the day. I guarantee if he does a top speed run he's going to land between 74 & 76. Like I said, mine did 75mph and I was on a custom built KTm XC intake with a huge k&n filter.
Very quick and fast joe… you did well.👍🏻🇺🇸⭐️
Love the videos I remember you picked up a 08 KX 250 Kawasaki carburetor bike my dad would like to find one I’ll like an Suzuki RM 250 CR 500 Honda 490 or Jason nice ATV. Keep it up brother.
i have a ktm 525 2012 and i love that u show how to check the carb!
Loved the outlaw i had over the 450ies i owned it had lots of power longer gears better for trail riding great bikes
For future, you can’t lose clutch fluid if you unbolt the slave cylinder. It’s a contained unit between the master and slave cylinder. 😊
When did you pave the driveway? It looks amazing. It going to be so much better in the winter to plow👍🏾
The paint gives it an authentic Mad Max look, I just can’t imagine going 85 mph on it.🚀
Regardless of the guy jacking up the price this was a really good score Joe👌
Very nice video, I have the same quad but mine is 2008 the only difference is the how the front end looks. :)
That UA-cam money asphalt job looks pretty sweet dude. Rock on.
Great find i bought one of these brandnew off shoeroom floor when they first came out but mine was the 500 then later in this style came loved it an i knee that thing was gonns pop up on u like it did while doing donuts lol deff nice bike
Brake cleaner will make spray paint bubble up and wipe off, then you can buff and polish the plastics
There is a spark plug wrench made to get in there. I think Tusk makes it. I have one for my ‘08 Outlaw.
Work your Magic Joe. I am ready to watch this eposide. Good Luck! Man
Swing arm models are hard to find. I had a irs model. Was a pos lol. Always breaking axles or ripping cv boots and throwing grease everywhere
Get some spacers for the wheels it will make it a lot easier to control
i have a 2008 polaris outlaw 525 s and the motor on it is bulletproof. forever keeping it
Think you got a very good deal, and a little elbow grease and clean, paint, polish, will look pretty good, and definitely not much into it, should be able to flip or trade and a good increase.
I’ve wanted one since they were new. I rarely see them for sale. You must live in Wisconsin too.
