For me personally it’s Evil dead rise, the remake, the original, evil dead 2, and AOD. I love the more dark demented evil dead over the really campy evil dead.

They felt like family in a strange way, watching the show just gives me that safe comfy feeling, really wish i could magically like make Bruce Campbell 20 years younger so he could keep playing Ash lol
1) The Evil Dead - something about those raw special effects, sound design and lower quality camera makes this one the creepiest and unsettling for me and makes it timeless in my opinion. Phenomenal
2) Evil Dead 2013 - took my mate, complete newbie to evil dead, to the cinema for this and will never forget how gnarly this movie was and the faces we both pulled at each other throughout reacting to what was happening on screen!
3) Evil Dead Rise - loved it carried the vibe of the 2013 film while taking place in a new setting. Loved the subtle addition to the lord that there are 3 volumes of the necronomicon. Meaning these movies live comfortably within the same universe. Other than that, again loved the gnarly and creative kills/possessions
4) Evil Dead 2 - this was the first one I saw on tv, introduced to me by my sisters boyfriend and a truly unforgettable experience. But for me, though it had the bigger budget it doesn’t quite hold up as well for me as the OG. Though I still love it for the iconic moments, and Bruce Campbell’s Ash overall is top tier in this one.
5)Army of Darkness - the one I’ve watched the least as it derived too far from its horror roots and into comedy for my personal taste. But still an enjoyable watch
I think they are all excellent overall though and any one of them I can put on with mates and get enjoyment from! My favourite horror franchise hands down.

As a point of reference, I love all of the installments in this franchise because this is my all time favorite horror franchise. I love this franchise so much that I quote Ash all of the time, I own The Evil Dead: Groovy Collection, I have multiple Evil Dead shirts and I have an Ash action figure, and I’m not even someone who collects action figures. This really is a ranking of least best to best best
6. Army of Darkness-It’s not really horror, but I still love this movie as this medieval spin on this franchise that has a lot of Three Stooges elements and amazing one-liners from Ash
5. Evil Dead Rise-A very successful entry to this franchise that has wonderfully twisted amounts of carnage and violence, some very dark comedy, and a new setting and a focus on family that both service the movie very well
4. Ash vs. Evil Dead-A wonderful continuation of Bruce Campbell’s Ash that has a great mix of more modern horror elements with everything I love this franchise for
3. Evil Dead 2013-An absolutely brutal, unrelenting Evil Dead film that doesn’t at all feel like something Sam Raimi could direct, which I mean in the absolute best way possible
2. The Evil Dead-I can understand how this movie may not hold up the best for newer viewers of this film, but I’ve always really loved this movie for its low budget practical effects, camerawork, imperfect acting, and unsettling atmosphere, so it’s always been one of my Favorite Horror Movies of All Time
1. Evil Dead 2-This movie takes everything I adore this franchise for and creates a perfect blend of indie horror elements, Bruce Campbell’s incredible physical performance as Ash, great camera angles, and slapstick comedy, all with Sam Raimi’s humor, visuals, energy, violence, and creativity, making for a movie that’s in my Top 3 Favorite Horror Films of All Time as well as one of my All Time Favorite Movies in general

I watched the first 3 movies back to back for the very first time today and really enjoyed them, super fun especially army of darkness. I’ll watch the others this week but loving it so far

I think this is one of those franchises that you had to grow up with it to love it, when it comes to the earlier movies. Like my girlfriend is a fanatic of the first 2 films, but I saw them in my early 20s, so I couldn't help but notice the more dated aspects. Definitely respect them for what they are in the horror genre, but I much prefer the new generation of Evil Dead movies
Facts 100%. I honestly don’t think any of the original 3 age that well. Like if you’re actually watching them today… I can barely sit through the original 3 like come on.
I agree. I’d rate rise higher than 2 and army of darkness. It’s more of what I’d love to see out of this franchise.
The newer movies are more mainstream because of there polish and feel somewhat like more generic modern Horror flicks the demons in Evil Dead 2013 felt like rip offs of the Demon from the Exorcist with the constant over the top cussing haven't seen Rise yet but for originality and creativity I think all 3 of the old ones are better then the 2013 movie. But overall I still like the 2013 movie but not as much as the old 3.

The best part of the evil dead franchise isn’t that it is consistent. It is the fact that it has a handful of different styles. Some people may love the hard campiness of Army of Darkness and the TV series, or some may love the hard horror of 2013. There is consistency and variation. Some may like the opposite of what you like. Luckily it never gets to decisive to the point of the fanbase being toxic.
Scream for example is consistent, but there is obvious bar of which ones are great and which ones are kinda subpar to the others. Evil dead doesn’t have that because it started independent. You can’t complain about certain aspects as it was just a part of its time.
On the note of evil dead rise with its necronomicon appearance, it makes sense even though it is stuck in ambiguity. You know their apartment is an old bank building, so it makes sense that whoever the priest was or whoever had their hands on the book and tapes at that time, decided the best place to hide it was within a bank vault behind a lockbox. But the power of the necronomicon found its victims and extruded the earthquake to open the whole. Drawing the young male to find it. We also know there are multiple books within the universe. So the other one underneath the cabin also has some ambiguity
This franchise also has one of the best musicals based on a movie that I have seen in a while
Heathers and Little Shop of Horrors are still the best movies turned musicals.

I don’t think there’s a wrong way to rank the Evil Dead movies. They are all awesome movies, all so so close that my favorite could be any of the 5 on any given day of the week. My favorite franchise ever. As of this moment, my favorite is Evil Dead 1981, but after seeing Rise I thought it was Rise. I often think 2 is the best as well as 2013. Same goes for Army. Obviously I can’t even rank these movies, I love them all so so much. Ash Vs Evil Dead is great too, i just watch movies more than I Watch TV shows and I have just a few issues with the show I don’t have with the movies. Still a great show though, and an awesome part of the franchise

Well, for one, it depends on which ending that you like more. Now, if I remember correctly... If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the Director's Cut have the more downbeat ending? And the theatrical version of "Army of Darkness" is the one that definitely has the more upbeat, happy ending to it.
I love the theatrical ending and it's in the musical so it's a biased opinion lol but I really love the director cut of "good bad I'm the one with the gun."

Great ranking.. I personally prefer army of darkness over the original or the remake but I love it all but Rise… so much I wonder if I saw the same film as everyone else.. there was audible groans throughout my theater the whole runtime. I honestly hated it and it’ll be the first one in the franchise that I don’t add to my collection. It did nothing for me.

the only issue I had with Evil Dead rise was the pacing but once it got rolling it was a fun ride.

The most consistent horror franchise qualitywise, I'd even say better than Scream as Scream had some hiccups (imo).
By far the best horror franchise lol. Scream 3 was terrible, 4 was forgettable, and 5 is one of the worst movies I've seen in my life, absolutely ABYSMAL. 2 and 6 are the only decent sequels.

Personally for me army of darkness and evil dead 2 were the best. Ash vs evil dead was fun, evil dead rise was great ! really liked all the gore. i liked evil dead but it didnt really age well and is tough to watch nowadays.. the evil dead remake was good too.. i mean theyre all great but for me i would probably put it.. I have more of an appetite for the gore and horror elements than the campiness, but Evil Dead 2 balances it all so well that it has a charm that edges out Evil Dead Rise. Love 'em all though.

Evil dead 2 is by far my favorite and Army my least fav. Haven’t watched Ash Vs Evil because I’m not sure if it had an ending… did it?
1. Ash vs Evil Dead. It not only is the most Evil Dead that Evil Dead can be, but it's the longest, has the most character development and lore additions, has the best comedy, introduces new great characters, is super fucking wild and crazy (morgue scene and sperm bank scene? Come on, you can't not love it). It also has some of the goriest kills of the franchise.
2. Evil Dead Rise. I loved everything you loved, and everything you didn't.
3. Evil Dead. Unlike the older movies, it actually felt like a horror movie. Aside from the first. The first was a horror movie through and through, but it's a little dated and is more disturbing than anything else.
4. Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn. A lot of the humor and scares haven't aged well for me, but I still have immense sense of nostalgia for it and it's still a fun movie overall.
5. Bruce Campbell VS The Army of Darkness. It may not be a good horror movie and may have had a REALLY awesome Deadite fight changed drastically, but it's really fun through and through. But it has to be this low because of the fact I just can't get over the fact it's not much of a horror film. But I love the score.
6. The Evil Dead. It's still a solid film, and it set the standard for a lot of horror tropes that have been seen over and over again, but honestly, I don't like many of those tropes. The jumpscares were prolonged to the point you felt at ease, but the music hit still made most of the jumpscares. Not to mention the acting is poor and the effects are dated. I'm sure it may have worked for its time, and it is a gross movie, but it doesn't scare me or give me chills. But to be fair, only Evil Dead Rise and Evil Dead do that for me.

Great ranking Sean. I love all of these movies too, so it’s pretty hard to pick my favorite. This is how i would rank them. Btw i havent seen Ash vs Evil Dead, but it’s definitely on my watchlist.
5. The Evil Dead. 3.75/5. It’s a hot take but yes, the original is my least favorite. Still really enjoy the film, just my least favorite in this great franchise. Definitely give it credit for starting this franchise, plenty of entertaining stuff in it, but some effects don’t age well for me. And I know Bruce Campbells Ash is in the movie, but hes not the same funny, entertaining character that we get in the next 2 movies.
4. Army Of Darkness 4/5. Ash is at his funniest, so many comedic scenes in here. But the lack of blood and gore hurts this for for me.
An Evil Dead movie should be a splatterfest and full of carnage candy, and this one is not. Still Ash more then makes up for it as he and his one liners completely steal the show.
3. Evil Dead 2 4.25/5. The perfect mix of horror and comedy makes Evil Dead 2 a blast. This is where Ash really became the Ash we all know and love. Plenty of great gore and carnage still, great movie. The only thing that holds it back from being higher is that I have no idea why Ash would go back to the cabin and play the records. Does he have amnesia or something? That initial setup aside, still an awesome film!
2. Evil Dead Rise. 4.5/5. I had all the hype in the world going into this movie, and it didn’t disappoint. I love the darker, more horrifying Evil Dead movies compared to the comedic ones, so I loved this film from start to finish. The only reason its not number one because that movie just so happens to be my favorite horrible movie of all time!
1. Evil Dead 2013. 5/5. Keep in mind that this was the first Evil Dead movie Ive ever seen. But ever since I seen it, it held a special place in my heart. So much blood, carnage, suspense, tension, and an absolute badass metal as fck ending. Final girl vs demon in blood rain, phenomenal! I absolutely adore this movie, it’s my favorite horror film, for me its a 5/5 and i dont give that rating out lightly!

Evil Dead Rise is a great movie if you've never seen the franchise yet..
I've watched them all and I went to the movies to watch EDR with someone who has never seen the franchise yet and she was on the edge of her seat..
It was great but not the best..
2013 initiated me on the franchise, then i went to rise and to the og ones, gotta say they didn't appeal to me at all, i highly prefer the new ones than the old ones. Still gotta see the aod and ash vs evil dead
@gabrael1989 the old ones won't appeal to today's standards with all the CGI and effects.. But the Evil Dead of the 80's was ahead of its time..
