Jack's mother used to babysit me in 1978-79. I recall her being very proud and playing Jacks records to me. I was around 10yrs. I now own over 1500 LPs but Hows Tricks was my first. His mum was called Betty, lived on state pension and was a die hard Communist. His dad, Charlie who died years before, fought against Franco in the Spanish Civil War. From R.McLean, Glasgow, Scotland.
hey, I am not too sure if you still use your computer 15 years later but was you related to jack in any way or was his mother a caterer or care taker? This is super interesting and too specific to not be true and is very nice to hear.
@@The.Drummers.Drummer She used to babysit me sometimes for a few days at a time when my own mum occasionally had to work away from home. She lived locally in East Kilbride just south of Glasgow, Jack's home city here in Scotland. She had placed in a local shop window advertising her babysitting service and my mum replied. Betty Bruce was in her early 70s at the time. She was really nice but didn't take any nonsense. She was also a lifelong member of the British Communist Party as was Jack's dad Charlie who died years before. She lived in a small council house, Google 'Chatham East Kilbride' and had an upright piano in the living room which I never saw her play. Many years later I'd learn she was very musical. I hope this adds a bit of colour for you.
Jack Bruce with Cream lit the musical fire in me back in 1967 and I've never been the same. Long-time guitar player and vintage guitar collector ever since. I still put on Cream tunes in my car and crank it up! Tireless music. Jack was my guy!
Jack is basically making a distinction between POP and PROGressive music. This was an entirely new concept at the time. Cream were at the crossroads (pun intended) of this branching out into new musical genres. They were essentially a POP, BLUES, JAZZ and ROCK band. They were key in the emergence of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Prog and Jazz-Rock fusion.
Yeah, She was in her early 70s I think and had a piano which she never played. She'd talk about Jack a lot but I cant remember details. Jack sent a pack of playing cards with his name on the back of each one for me. I do recall Betty, very upset, phoning a newspaper which printed a "Crazy, drug rock star" kind of story. She was nice but strict and her cat 'Jason' was a pain in the ass.
"Jack's a Trailblazer" and We all walk in His Dust ..Seen, Cream in 68' ,Remember it Very Well. How, can one Forget such an Original Mindblowing Band.. Theres lots more to Say ... Thanks Jack...
OH MY GOD!! From Which DVD, Video etc is this footage? I saw Eric's interview (where he plays guitar with his Psychedelic's SG).. just amazing!! I LOVE CREAM!! can anyone tell me where i can find the whole documentary?
This guy is a triple threat. Great bassist, great singer, great writer.

clapton is obviously very high in this video =)
Fair enough.
My experience at art school
@shiftymeister He was talking about the composition of the bass lines not the playing of them.
haha absolutely :)
THE Cream ahaha
Jack Bruce looks so stoned and pale
smack
I meet a lot of young players these days who have never listened to Classical music, and it shows. No understanding of counterpoint or syncopation.
omg jack's mother was your babysit, you should be very proud?
Why did commentators back-in-the-day put a 'the' before every band name even when the was none? 'The' Cream, makes no sense, it's 'Cream'.
They were the cream and it was shortened down to just cream. The cream of the crop was whole bands image the best at their own instruments
They were originally "The Cream". Just as Pink Floyd was originally, "The Pink Floyd"
pimp hat
who was the bassist he mentioned ?? if anyone knows it would be appreciated if u write down who it is
13 years too late but it was not a bass player as such but Bach
haha yeah you're soo right, yeah what he done to us? of make us sigh for him :)
sebastian bach? he's not a bass player, he was a composer
shiftymeister listen to his bass lines in his compositions
oh yeah, thats right ha
Jack and John Paul Jones rule the rock and roll Universe of bass playing. There are many other great ones... They're just not those guys
John Entwhistle is better.
John Wetton, Jack Cassidy, James Dewar were just as good, to name a few.
I know, I was writting to etniesno1. Sorry
Isn't it the way - "No talent for writing...." Yeesh....
Cream shoulda replaced eric with peter lemongello
Er...of course, he's a great guitarist
stop rippin on math bro
its not real
looks a bit like johnny depp doesn't he
