So glad I watched this-I have a wedding tomorrow and was getting the jitters. I have a career in addition to trying to get into free lance full time and the burn out and mental health is so real.
Hey I hope your wedding goes amazing!! I’m sure you’ll do great :) It’s perfectly normal to have some nerves happen before the wedding. I struggle with anxiety so it still happens to this day. The important part is to figure out how to handle it before you really give into it.
So on point Julie. I definitely made the mistake of over investing in my kit at first because I wanted to give my “clients” the best quality but I did run into a slow season and now I have to toss things and it sucks 😢. I also have a client I regret taking and wish I would’ve set the standard and said I wasn’t the artist for her. I’m going to really take these tips to heart and I’ve already started implementing big changes. Thank you so much for all you do. I love your content ❤
I think all of us have had a little Kit obsession trying to make it perfect! Unfortunately, we all learn the hard way haha also learning to set boundaries and being picky about jobs is key too. I’m sorry you had that experience with a client. Everything that is seen as a mistake should be turned into a learning experience though :)
These tips were so helpful! You definitely made me realize I need to change my language around "only doing makeup," when a client asks for hair as well. I downgrade myself a lot and I need to stop doing that!
It’s hard! It’s so ingrained in us to phrase things like that. We aren’t any less valuable … instead we learned to “perfect” and really hone in on the one area that we love the most :)
First, your makeup is so beautiful. second, thank you to share your experience and for such a value information. I went to school in 2017 to be a makeup artists but I can only say one thing about that I fail doing that, no because of my work, I believe it was because I didn’t know how to get clients.
Thank you so much! It’s so hard to get into this field because of how hard it is to get clients. I 100% feel that. Working on gaining connections is key. I’ve found out the hard way that people won’t come to you starting out.
I have been watching you for about a year now and let me just say that you have helped me so much business wise and I am so grateful! Thank you so much for these videos!❤
I am an aspiring makeup artist, I just graduated and onto becoming an esthetician. I haven’t really come across a channel like yours and I just want to thank you!! All of the information that you provide in your videos has been very helpful! ❤️
Hi Kayleigh! That’s amazing that you want to pursue makeup artistry as a career :) I’m so glad that you found my channel! Make sure to check out my Business for Makeup Artists playlist as I made specific videos about requested topics!
You are indeed the best! I've been following you since day one, and your professionalism is everything! I've learned so much from you and now taking this business seriously with your help 😍
great video im doing makeup and hair part time. i also work at retail store. i miss doing bridal makeup/hair i now do school musicals and dance school concerts
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I need it to hear. I’m starting my career as a makeup artist and I’m getting stress out about not getting as many clients as I hoped 😢
I’m so glad this helped! It is a common misconception that once you launch your business you’ll automatically have clients lined up and it’s disappointing when that doesn’t happen. I would focus on getting your name out there and connecting with locals :)
Hi Julie! Great tips thank you for sharing :) Your eyeshadow looks gorgeous. Not sure if you saw my last comment...you mentioned you like the dark shade of blush in the Nars holiday star palette. I found the palette in a TJ Maxx last month.Maybe you can find one at your local store. Have a great rest of your week.
Hi Claudia! Thank you so much :) yes I did see that comment. Too bad tj maxx isn’t super consistent with products and it’s all random haha. Mine does have it :( also in the future I’ll have to find something permanent too but I really do appreciate you mentioning it!
Hi! I’m glad you found the video helpful :) I usually have others reach out to me for the styles shoots but I’ve seen makeup artists host them themselves too!
You can either take some online or find colleges that offer this :) I personally didn't take any, but I do have an office job that lets me deal with the business financials so I learned on the job. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I didn’t realize this until this year 😢 over 55 weddings and I’ve noticed the last few weddings I’m so silent. When they have us traveling 2 hours at 6am and I’ve been up since 5, I am TIRED 🥱 by the time to get there. So many clients do not understand that it’s draining. No breakfast, lunch or snack while standing there working for 5 hours nonstop. Thanks so much for bringing this up. I’m repricing my packages and rates this week!
Thank you so much :) For UA-cam, it completely depends on what you consider“substantial”. With me personally, no it’s not. I would say that about 10-15% of my income is from UA-cam. It’s not really much, but it does have the potential to allow for growth :) You definitely have to put forth the effort to get to a good point, but once you do, you can make limitless amounts of money which is nice!
Great question! A lot of models I already know from working with and some a friends/family. Every once in a while I will have someone come that I don’t know but it doesn’t really bother me since I never know my bridal clients ahead of time either. I do usually ask them a few questions about themselves but it’s not that deep.
Love the phrase “specialize in makeup artistry”. Thank you for all the tips!
Yes! So important to phrase things in a positive way ;)
I love how you mentioned to take time for yourself. Yes! So vital! 💙
Yes!! This may be the most important tip of them all 🙌🏻

You should be doing one on one business coaching, you are inspiring and awesome!!
Aww thank you so much! I've thought about it, but I'm just not sure how to go about pricing it haha.

How do I find style shoots? Where do I search for it?
You can either put one together yourself or start reaching out to photographers :) Normally they do some at least once a year.
Love this video! Is the income from UA-cam substantial?

How do you vet the models that come to your home studio? If at all x
