Remodeling a tiny house is still a lot of work! Today I try and learn how to use a tile saw and set travertine stone tile for the fireplace hearth and surround. We bought all of our tile second hand form Habitat for Humanity and our local Facebook marketplace. I even score a spectacular hand made vintage seashell chandelier that will be perfect for our tall retro high beamed ceilings.
My mom and I try our best to add some plants to add some color and beauty to what we can for the landscaping. Focusing on deer and elk resistant plants and flowers. I assemble to garden planters from Vita. Shop them here:

Get rid of the bush! Some people get too sentimental about plants, I kinda did too until a few years ago. You don't like that bush to begin with, why waste the time and effort trying to recover it? Use the space for something you really like!
Also, gardening IS considered one of the best forms of exercise, plus all the mental health benefits.

What is the name of the lavender brush that is by the stairs.? When you pressure wash your vinyl and white fence ,do you use any kind of cleaner on the fence? My white vinyl fence took a beating this year. It has moss and mold and dirty looking, so I want to do mine too. Like suggestions please.

Everything at the cabin is looking so fabulous! Hydrangeas do very well on the Oregon Coast....I especially love the lace cap variety. The deer leave them alone also. Thank you for sharing it all with us ❤

The travertine looks gorgeous and really flows with the wood ceiling and floor!! I agree Selena that gardening is really good exercise and so healthy to be outside in the sun. ❤❤

Elk eat everything and what they don’t eat they will pull out. But I still love that we live around them.
The tiles on the wall by the heater, I have the same travertine tiles. They need to be hand oiled once a year, wiped off and buffed out with an electric buffer. They turn out gorgeous and the true color comes out. This prevents any cracking of the tiles by the heater.
The fireplace surround is stunning ! Everything is progressing so nicely. I'm envious ! The rugged Oregon coast is so magical.

If I were you, I'd totally cut that ugly bush way back so you can clean out all the dead stuff and let it start over.

Hi 👋 Selena. Remember to cut back and mulch your rosemary and lavender for fall. I live in Vancouver, Canada, and we have similar weather to your beach house. The first time, I bought some (rosemary and lavender ) put them in the ground but did not mulch and .lost them all😢. Im so enjoying this series on the cottage. 😊

Love the chandelier. Absolutely perfect for a beach house. I always wanted to do a sort of mosaic piece with seashells on an old dresser. I’ve done them on mirrors. Unfortunately I don’t have a seaside home which would be perfect for that kind of decor. I too love playing in the dirt. My birthday and Mother’s Day are a week apart. My husband and kids buy me dirt and plants and I’m totally fine with that! Y’all need a post digger!!!! Perfect for planting and alot less effort.

The travertine stone wall is beyond GORGEOUS!!! That was a ton of work but it looks AMAZING Pete! Well done! The planting you and your mom did looks great and I was so happy to hear that the deer/elk didn't destroy it after all the expense and hard work prepping the ground and planting! I'm with you Selena.....I'm a gardener too, and I think that ugly shrub is UGLY and much too wild and overgrown. I'd rent one of those very long barred chainsaws and ruthlessly shear it back to maybe a foot tall, then see how it looks when it grows again....which would probably only take a couple of months. I'm always surprised at how fast shrubs will come back after a dramatic cut back. If you're still not happy with it get a tractor and pull the darn thing out!! The root system is probably a beast and you could be digging for days! I'm a firm believer that if something in your garden or yard is not making you happy to look at.....get rid of it! I've been gardening for 50++ years and it's not worth it if it doesn't feed your soul. If you have plants you don't like, you can give them away.....that shrub I'd cut it back to almost nothing and give it one more chance....if it fails to please me, out it goes! That's just my opinion! I love the idea you have for the stones in that area....so many interesting ones you could pick from the beach! Loved the video and always fun to see you and your mom together! 😊 ~M~

Remember drought tolerant plants need water the first 2 years to become accumulated and established, then they don't need a lot of water. Terrific job on the "ugly" bush. Keep going. Love the Oregon coast, so beautiful. Hope to head that way in the next couple of weeks.

YES!!! Love power tools. My husband gave me a miter saw for my 50th birthday which he customized by painting it Pink and Tiffany Blue to match my other power tools that I either thrifted or got for free all of which I painted Pink and or Tiffany Blue. I am now 56 and use them all the time to make furniture or home decor pieces for us or our family and I also sell in a shop in Morro Bay Ca. and online. I love how you just jump right in on all these projects and are DIYing and thrifting gorgeous things for your coastal home. Yay you👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻and Pete too of course🤣

My suggestion is cut that ugly bush down to 20 cm over the ground and you will be able to form it as it grows back, it works every time 😊
When I have a bush that I don’t care for and it’s woody I cut it all the way down. If it comes back great but at least it’ll all be fresh greenery.

I think the planter would look cool if it were in that corner but at an angle. That would allow you to put another taller plant behind the planter.

I agree, cut that ugly bush down. It is a scraggly eyesore. Don't talk about it, cut it down. Maybe you can get someone to dig the roots out.
Or cut it very very short and round it for now.
You might be able to find really nice rounded rocks from the beach. Put inbetween the rosemary plants and mulch in between.
I like that you planted rosemary because it is also a herb, and medicinal.
I would try to plant fruits trees, herbs, etc inbetween. I'm not sure what is elk/deer and drought resistant in that area. You want low maintenance trees and plants.
A lemon tree might do well.
