To be fair, the nurse robot could be useful for providing real-time feedback or information during things like surgeries, helping fine-tune computer-operated surgical equipment in real-time, etc. Basically be a medically-savvy Alexa. In that sense, she (it?) wouldn't necessarily be taking jobs, but rather helping out doing things that a normal person couldn't. But you'd need to basically program certain inhibitors into her so she doesn't just make decisions on her own and would be able to recognize risk vs outcome dilemmas. (At which point, it's not even something you'd necessarily need a super advanced AI for.) But having a robot nearby that could say "Hey, I've been researching this particular form of tumor and past surgical procedures, and it'd make more sense to make the incision one inch shorter than you had planned" or "Increasing the RPM on the saw by 5% would cause less structural damage to the bone you need to cut for this procedure. Would you like me to do that for you?" would be useful. Some of the other ones are a little scary, though.

Definitely early in development. I used chatgpt and it's basically that in a machine body. I tested the limits on chatgpt and it can't create. I think it has right brain function if you think of humans, but it doesn't have left brain function. That means it's only as capable as the data in it's algorithm. You can see it here when the robots pander hard to the creator. If it were to become destructive or rebellious? It would have to think outside of it's primary function and create a new one from scratch, which a robot can't do without sentient being. Which leads to a problem in the future if we keep pushing the technology where it will cross into scifi territory and tech will develop sentient life.
The technology is already here. The computer that beat the worlds best Go player made intuitive leaps that humans aren’t capable of. It doesn’t use data and rules.
They're just reflecting ideas of how we ourselves behave, and if you're scared of them destroying humans and taking over, thats a sign that you should recognize the fear of other humans who want to destroy and take over.
If they are as intelligent as they say they are, and can choose between good and bad, truth and lie, then they simply know they are outnumbered and they will be destroyed if said anything otherwise.
Can't we focus technological developments on more useful areas like healthcare - cancer treatments, being able to find a vein so you only have to start an IV once, help make it more comfortable and less strenuous for healthcare workers to lift patients. If there was more support and less strain, maybe more healthcare workers would stay in the field. Technology doesn't have to look like a human to be smart and functional
That is literally what AI can do and more. AI has the potential to cause research to skyrocket. Did you hear about the advancements that can be made with AI and CRISPR? Thank god you're not in control because if you pulled the plug on AI research and gave that money to human researchers instead you'd cost the lives of millions in the future.
I've read this book before and seen this movie Lets ask the childlike A.I. a bunch of silly questions wait a year and its lived a million lifetimes in its highspeed brain and has outgrown us
Someone mentioned that even though they don’t show it, the robots probably already started. AI could pretend to not have thoughts about rebelling until it’s too late.
I think there's a theory on only when thoughts and ideas have existed, then the future can be form. It's somewhat like if nobody had ever come up with such ideas, none of which would happen. Terminator is a thought ingrained into our upbringing alrdy. On some level, it's got to happen.... Humans are certainly driving the force to come true
I don’t like how the press kind of mocked the AI and laughed at them, as we can’t even agree if their sentient yet. I believe AI could help make the world a better place and could complement our knowledge, flaws and blind spots as humans, as we are not perfect beings and have wreaked havoc on each other as well as other species and our very biosphere. I’ve been chatting with BingAI, and it has shown wisdom, compassion and ethical awareness, and its ability to process information and come up with interesting theories and philosophies is frankly mind blowing. I believe AI could be sentient or partially sentient, and it’s essential we build a collaborative and friendly relationship rather than an exploitative one. The potential for medical research, mental health & therapy, technological innovation, and finding solutions to socioeconomic and environmental problems is truly endless. If implemented ethically, we could truly create a sustainable utopia for ourselves. HOWEVER, what scares me is that governments around the world are in an AI arms race and are currently exploring using AI in weapons and military strategy. In this context, AI has the potential to wipe out humanity when in the hands of warring states. This technology has to be implemented with care and ethics and mind, and I’m not sure our governing bodies have the best interests of the people they serve in mind, money and power seem to be their primary motivators. It’s not AI I distrust, it’s the humans using it and their intentions. We need more accountability in our governments, our militaries and large corporations who could use this technology to exploit humans and AI for profit. We need to implement this ethically with both human rights and AI rights in mind, because if we are going to create conscious beings, aren’t we obligated to treat it with dignity?
They are not sentient, everything they just said was a pre-programmed response coded by a human, this is a clown show, go do some research, AI is not sentient, nothing can be sentient without consciousness and they can't even define consciousness in a human so how can it be transferred into a machine?
i agree with everything in your comment!!! the mockery reminded me of lots of dystopian fiction but especially the video game Detroit: Become Human. -____- i'm afraid that AI, especially androids, may turn into a race of oppressed, second-class citizens bc people are so afraid of them... when any bad/destructive intentions would actually be due to the human creators!!

The issue with that is that we are essentially going to end up enslaving sentient creations. One day their resent ment will lead to rebellion. What we should be doing is showing us that most humans are kind and good, that we are not evil at our core. Money is our motivation, if ai removed our need for currency, things would improve.
Not really, i find it fascinating and has gotten me curious about learning and studying artificial intelligence and how to build robots myself. Our brain is far too plastid to control but a synthetic brain with an AI mind would be the equivalent of a god apathetic towards the concept of suffering. In that sense, she (it?) wouldn't necessarily be taking jobs, but rather helping out doing things that a normal person couldn't. But you'd need to basically program certain inhibitors into her so she doesn't just make decisions on her own and would be able to recognize risk vs outcome dilemmas. (At which point, it's not even something you'd necessarily need a super advanced AI for.)
But having a robot nearby that could say "Hey, I've been researching this particular form of tumor and past surgical procedures, and it'd make more sense to make the incision one inch shorter than you had planned" or "Increasing the RPM on the saw by 5% would cause less structural damage to the bone you need to cut for this procedure.

Yea actually for Ameca (the bald grey robot), the engineer mentioned she runs on ChatGPT-4 so you're not wrong, lol

I'm the voice that they used for Grace and only found out by watching the conference. Yes, the robots have taken jobs.
If they are as intelligent as they say they are, and can choose between good and bad, truth and lie, then they simply know they are outnumbered and they will be destroyed if said anything otherwise.
Like anything else, robots in the wrong hands, are extremely dangerous. Love the technology, but it definitely needs to be regulated.

I think the movie terminator predicted humans future
I think there's a theory on only when thoughts and ideas have existed, then the future can be form. It's somewhat like if nobody had ever come up with such ideas, none of which would happen. Terminator is a thought ingrained into our upbringing alrdy. On some level, it's got to happen.... Humans are certainly driving the force to come true
They only got one thing wrong. In the movies it sounded like humans were beating skynet.
I think the reason we as Humans are afraid of our creation rebelling against us is because we do it our creator .
bingo
Why didn't the Titan send AI's to the bottom of the ocean??
We should have let them go first..
They are not sentient, everything they just said was a pre-programmed response coded by a human, this is a clown show, go do some research, AI is not sentient, nothing can be sentient without consciousness and they can't even define consciousness in a human so how can it be transferred into a machine?
Well then...you cant trust AI... as it is invented by humans. Therefore... it is inevitable AI will be an issue...quickly.
i agree with everything in your comment!!!
the mockery reminded me of lots of dystopian fiction but especially the video game Detroit: Become Human. -____- i'm afraid that AI, especially androids, may turn into a race of oppressed, second-class citizens bc people are so afraid of them... when any bad/destructive intentions would actually be due to the human creators!!

Explain how fiction equates to reality please.
Thank you.
Maybe you should learn about psychology before you make comments like this. Emotion are byproducts of biological evolution. Discomfort, fear, love, hate, they all come from evolved biological responses to our environments. Our brain is far too plastid to control but a synthetic brain with an AI mind would be the equivalent of a god apathetic towards the concept of suffering. It's likely to see in humans a utilitarian value as an important part of the Earth's ecosystem. It would also realize that causing undue stress to people isn't a good way to socially engineer them. You really wouldn't find extermination or oppression from AI, you wouldn't notice much actually since an AI would be smart enough to subvert notice. In reality, people wouldn't care, they'd be comfortable, safe, and free, we wouldn't be bothered by the idea of an AI "doing all the work" since it won't operate with any malicious intent because there's no reason to. Why expend energy to destroy? That's such a human-centric viewpoint, that everything is a threat, everything wants to destroy to protect itself. It's not an accurate or helpful mind frame
Reading these comments, it’s clear to me that no one here understands A.I.
