Best Smells like Teen Spirit live I've heard .Just fabulous. They were obviously plugging it as single. Later they didn't play the song with such a ferocious intensity.
I was at this and remember it like it was yesterday. Bonfire night, 1991. Supported by Captain America and TV Personalities. Great, great performance. I had an old audio tape of this for years but have never seen any video footage before. Brilliant stuff. Thanks for posting.
I'm a huge Bleach fan, Negative Creep is my Nirvana fav song ;) and Incesticide has been my fav album for years, after Kurt's death it was the only one I listened to...but I think some of the shows from 1991 are more "complete" including songs like "In Bloom" or "Drain You" that I totally love!! Anyway anything from the guys was great..I saw them live in Rome 1994 and even if Kurt was not feeling good it was such an emotion to listen to them live..in front of me..unforgettable.
I think the next night was even better. And Detroit 10/11 was phenomenal too. But this one is definitely up there with the other two for the Nevermind tour.
I saw this tour at Newcastle Mayfair with Captain America & Shonen Knife , great show - I remember Kurt was curled up asleep on stage behind the P.A. before they went on ! . I should mention Big John Duncan who played 2nd guitar on this tour , he was in a band called Goodbye Mr Mackenzie with Shirley Manson & The Exploited !!
Boofer T. Washington yeah, I gotta agree w/ya on that one there. The person he’s talking about, Big John Duncan, was the band’s guitar ‘tech’. There’s only one time I’m aware of where he did actually play 2nd guitar. That was the infamous 07/23/93 NYC show where Cobain OD’d just hours before the show & Courtney w/others had to help to revive him. Needless to say, due to all that happening right before they’re to play a full 19-20 song set, let alone it also being the first gig in a few months... well it turned out that Cobain was going to need help w/hitting all the notes... Espcly due to a lot of songs within the set were to be new material soon to be released on the upcoming ‘In Utero’ LP. So they had their guitar tech ‘Big John Duncan’ play on stage w/them. If you go to listen to that show, you’ll hear Krist introduce him to the audience as “Big Bad John”. It was actually after this show that Kurt decided that it would be a lot easier on him if they did include a 2nd guitar player on the upcoming U.S. & UK ‘In Utero’ tours... hence Pat Smear.
Kurt had so much passion and anger and energy he had a message that If you want something bad enough you can be what you want to be Kurt wanted to get his music out there and he did and nirvana was born thanks to The guys who filmed this concert so happy that all his fans all over the world can see nirvana Kurt was a beautiful sensitive man with a voice that was outstanding so raw but also soft and gentle love you kurt miss you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🧍♂️🧍♂️🧍♂️🙏
Was there aye, watchin the fireworks going off around london as i travelled to the gig on the routemaster then underground smokin drinkin all the way,new it was special!
I've heard a lot about how their shows were either really good or pretty bad. This was clearly an AWESOME one!!! WOW! One of my friends saw them and said they were terrible. He must have caught one of the bad ones. Kurt's voice sounds GREAT!!!! Damn! This live version "Floyd the Barber" sounds like it does on Montage of Heck. Way better than the studio version! You can definitely tell this is early in the touring schedule! Kurt's voice isn't all tore up!
+Amber McQuiston you'd be forgiven for assuming so, but they'd actually been touring for about 2.5 months straight at this date (I was looking up the tour schedule on nirvanaguide site which led me here)
+TheSmashingTesticles there's absolutely nothing "pop" about "Endless, Nameless" or Nirvana. yes, they have pop influences among many, but they're not Bieber for fuck sake.
handsomerube You don't have to sound like Bieber or Katy Perry in order to be a pop artist. If you don't think songs like Teen Spirit, About a Girl, Polly, Drain You, In Bloom, Dumb, or All Apologies sound poppy at all then you need to get your ears checked. Their songs were played on MTV and the radio multiple times and were obviously mainstream, so yeah, it's pretty safe to assume they were a pop group. Don't like pop music? Go listen to death metal, sludge metal, or grindcore if you are soooooo into br00tal underground shit.
They are in early 90's. But hell Nirvana is more modern, bright, sophisticated, cool than any celeb/public figure currently... (I was born in 1991. So my chance is zero to see them live... life is... just a series of random unfairness...)

I was at this and I gotta say after feeling them blow holes in my head on the Sliver tour and at Reading 1991 , Kurt was not on good form physically at all by this point... they did sound good but he was welded to the spot onstage. this did take away of lot of the full tilt excitement that the other shows I saw had . .Captain America or Eugenius or whatever they were called by then were ok.. but really I wish I wasn't outside trying to sell my spare ticket and getting threatened by the ticket touts, when I could been having fun watching the Television Personalities earlier on🥳
Danny Goldberg, in his last book "Serving the servant" says that Pennyroyal Tea's lirycs took inspiration from a Courtney 's poem... Uhm... it' s sounds weird... They (K&C) started their relationship in mid October 1991 (however he was on tour so I don't think they could stay at home reading poetry and writing songs.....) This gig was just two weeks later and Pennyroyal Tea (with the lyrics) seemed to already exist.... So: does Danny Goldberg remember badly or is this one of the things that he wanted bring back in his own way...? 🤔
Well kurt had the song melody written in 1990 you can listen to a demo that he and Grohl did in 1990. Maybe Goldberg is referring to the lyrics that are now known on the album.
why are there so many great shows of Nirvana out there on UA-cam and Seattle's 2nd favorite alice in chains has all shitty ones except unplugged which is hard to watch and there show in Brazil where laynes voice was toast from partying with curt the night before ...
Yeah I hear ya on that one. I’ve been collecting Nirvana bootlegs going all the way back to my first one in mid ‘93 from being mostly on cassette tape & VHS and some CD up thru today being on CD & DVD. In all that time, I’ve managed to collect 192 total ‘different’ Nirvana shows. 124 of those shows I have on both audio & video. Then another 68 just on audio alone. Now as far as my AIC collection, which like Nirvana, started back in ‘93 as well. Now being that I’m a huge fan of theirs, that actually stands for just during the Layne era. So bcos of that, I know that there’s probably a shitload more of different shows of theirs I could probably find. That being said, even though I still try to hunt down different AIC shows from the Layne era... in all this time I’ve only obtained 61 total different shows w/Layne. Of those, only 28 of them do I have on both audio & video. The other 33 I’ve only found on audio. I mean, you’re right... when you look thruout that time period of when both Cobain & Staley were around, one wouldn’t think that there’d be that big of a difference in finding available bootleg recordings of their shows.
I reckon if he had retired, moved to an idylic, utopian paradise he LOVED, an environment he LOved, because he HATED his hometown, he could have been a well adjusted guy - I have No doubt he was Bipolar, the rage and anger is bubbling over.Makes for an ever better concert, his musical craft was nthe outlet for his creative genius.
That's not how chronic depression works. I think kurt was a depressed child who early on decided he wanted to be a legendary famous artist. He did everything in his power to become famous and rich and respected. I think he very quickly found out that even though all his dreams came true and through determination and hard work that he still felt like that same sad child. Accomplishing everything he set out to do could not reverse the sense of loneliness and abandon that he felt from his parents. This is why a child's early years are so important. His career couldn't make up for all the missing love and affection he never received from his father. There was nothing that was going to save him. I think being a drug addict and having a child made him worse off with him thinking he would be an awful father that was no better than his father who he hated. Insecurities created early in childhood will fuck you up the rest of your life.
