    After watching this video again (recommended by ChipXtractor) I understand it better now and think it's really cool. I knew what the word blocker meant before, but never realized the importance of them in reference to combos. Toward the end of the video, as you put into perspective the amount of combos that make up each portion of the AK & QQ+ range, it becomes clear that having just one ace in hand eliminates a good portion of those combos. Cool stuff and thanks again. I wanna get good at this. Peace.

      Yeah that's why 3-betting with junk Ax and Kx hands preflop against wide openers is a really good idea, because they will so rarely have AK/KK/AA so you know they are very likely to fold or call (and then likely give up after your flop cbet). Lesser so with super-tight openers (who likely will continue with most of their range of JJ+/AK/AQs or whatever -- you don't block much of them).
      Combos are even more important on the river, when you consider bluffing or not, whether you "block" their "missed draw" hands AKA most of their remaining hands are value and will call your bluff. Doug Polk seems to take that into account in a LOT of hands he has analyzed throughout 2017.

      We don't have a video specifically on that, but this chart should get you in the right direction: resources.pokerstrategy.com/Strategy/pdf/ps_nl_bigstackstrategie_en.pdf (it's a bit tight...but it's a decent start)

      +Ollie Battle We are risking $9 to win $4.5, which requires folds 67% of the time to breakeven. For more information, we did a complete video on this: ua-cam.com/video/umMnLLnUIcI/v-deo.html

      If you don't have the time to properly analyze a hand in real-time, you are playing too many tables imo.

      Usually I get around min 20-secs work this out on some of the tables I play on. Usually it takes me close to that time to work it out. Should I worry about this opening me up to timing tells?

    I don't understand this concept at all. But from reading the comments it seems important. Can you explain it very simply for me without the math? I already use pot odds and am a pretty decent player I just want to know how I can incorporate this.

    Good video ! I would just want to know how you get this percent to fold 67% of the time? (how did you calculate it)?

      REAListaee fold equity, buddy. Look for it

    • @Storyvilleemcee
      @Storyvilleemcee 9 років тому +1

      REAListaee It's not percent to fold, it's percent of time needed to fold to be profitable. You risk 9 to win 4.5 (open raise + blinds). 9:4.5 = 2:1 = 67%.
      If you consider hands like ATs, or A5s, these actually make for decent hands to balance your three betting range because they significantly cut down on the number of calling/4-betting hands (they reduce AA down to 3 combos, and reduce AK/AQ/AJ hands down to 12 combos each). So when you 3-bet these hands you actually have more fold equity as your opponent will more often have weaker hands. That said, there are some players who simply won't raise KQ,KJ,KT,QJ from UTG or UTG +1. I tend to reserve my light 3-bets for looser openers or openers from late position.

    how can you assume villian's combo count correlates to his fold rate or fold percentage. You assume too much, like what cards villian plays, or has preflop. I am a winning player and have never considered villian's fold rate as it is based on contrived stats on fold percentages. Your point is probably better kept simple, use your stats to determine percent you need to win to be in the pot. That is easier done with simple formula; 4 times outs on turn, 2 times outs on river. If pot odds > hand odds, then play. Your method is too slow and difficult for real world live game.

    • @splitsuit
      @splitsuit 7 років тому +3

      Pot odds are great when you are CALLING - but this stuff is vital when you are being aggressive.

    Another concept that is just poker trivia. Other than Rainman, I don't know know anyone doing math like this on every hand of every opponent, you are just burning a lot of mental energy for no meaningful returns. If you know the probable ranges of your opponents and you are a somewhat decent player, you don't need to know combos and keep doing this math. Just play the game...

    • @ThePokerBank
      @ThePokerBank  2 роки тому

      And a range is __________? (hint, it's math + combos!)

    • @agauerm
      @agauerm 2 роки тому

      @@ThePokerBank no, I see the range as it is, just a range of cards recommended for each position on the table. The only usable stuff that I can extract from combos is the concept of blockers, and I don't need to do any math to know that if I have AK, obviously the chances of my opponent having those cards decreased substantially, which is obvious. Do I need to do math to know percentages and whatnot? Of course not.

  • @StrongwillGameTheory
    @StrongwillGameTheory 8 років тому

    I just look at the fold to 3bet percentage and the break even bluff math. The rest are feel based. If you have enough experience. You won't need this. This is for people starting out in Poker. I've played over 300K in a life time. I've been a constant winner.
