  • Should amatuers be allowed to play against professionals in certain tournaments? I think so. I know the logistics of organising such an event might not be easy, but I think it would be a great way for better players to truly experience the speed and skill of the pros. What do you think?

    The best player at my club won a lot of 5.5 level amatuer tournaments and kept asking the small pro tournaments to let him play and finally there was one with some open spots so he got his PSA card and played against a top 200 pro, lost 11-0 11-0 11-1 in the first round. He was a heck of a player but not EVEN CLOSE to what the pros can do. Especially the fitness level is just not close.

      Yeah, the jump from amateur to professional can be a shock.

    I liked both your ideas. The idea of having pros that are knocked out the chance to play amateurs and make some extra money makes sense. If they've travelled some distance to make it to the tournament and get knocked out early a smaller tournament against amateurs could really help them recover the cost of their travel. It could also be a great promotion of the sport with amateur players really getting the idea of the gulf between pro players and recreational players.

      Yes, I do think the idea has enough merit to be tested a few times and see what happens.

    Love the concept of an open against the pros exactly how you describe it.

      Definitely could allow fans to feel a greater connection with touring pros.

    In regards to Shaun Murphy , I think it was purely sour grapes that he reacted that way to being beaten by an amateur. If he had won, I don't think we would have heard anything from him.
    Your points of allowing some amateurs to play in pro tournaments is a great idea.

      Agreed. In addition, after I posted this I read that he entered a golf tournament against pros and was saying that he had no pressure because he wasn't a golf.pro.

    Could you do a review on the karakal hot zone, to what I have heard they are very flexible and unique

      To be direct, no, sorry. But only because I don't have access to any Karakal rackets. I write to them to ask them to send me.some, but they didn't even reply.

    Of course: that is the basic definition of an 'open' competition. Entry could require winning a qualifying competition, as per The Open golf championship.
    Ronnie O'Sullivan was right: Murphy should give up professional snooker and get a proper job if that's his attitude.

      BTW - I think I once had one of those Dunlop racquets behind you!

    • @BetterSquash
      @BetterSquash  2 роки тому

      Yes, if a pro can't polay against an amateur, then he shouldn't call himself a pro. Which racket do you think you had?

    i think it really depends on how you define an amateur in squash , that could be the best junior in the world who just isnt registered with psa or it could be any middle aged man who is division 1-2 standard

    • @BetterSquash
      @BetterSquash  2 роки тому

      Yes, you are right, but in some ways it's not too important. As long as the games are good, that's all that matters.

    Shaun Murphy was wrong in what he said. He as a pro player should be mindful of where ultimately the next generation of sports stars come from as they all start as amateurs.
    If you’re good enough to qualify for the tournament then fair game.
    I’m guessing for squash there should be perhaps a minimum ranking level to attain. I can’t see the benefit and potential injury risk to the pro player playing a low ranked amateur as a contest.

      I'm not suggesting that just anybody can play against a pro and I agree that some sort of system be in place to ensure that the mismatch isn't too big, but that said, plenty of exhibition matches pit pro against amateur and they are often well atteneded, so in many ways perhaps the best way to present it is as a simple "Chance to play against a pro" event.
