    Thanks for another great video, Lindie! I'm curious how you decided when you're ready to jump into a new language? I'm an American living in Korea and have studied Korean to about TOPIK 4. I've been interested in learning Japanese for a couple years because for my job I go to Japan and interact informally with a lot of Japanese people. However, since I'm aware of how much room I have to grow in Korean, learning Japanese feels like it would take away from my time with Korean. What are your thoughts? :)

    It’s been a long time I haven’t checked out your videos since I am having busy semester. After watching your video, I have few recommendations especially regards to the kanji category because I have already way surpassed the level of N1 and studying myself for 漢検 which is their official governmental test for examining your kanji skill. Since you spoke about the coverage that can provide all the kanji you need, I recommend you the 日本漢字検定協会’s whole series. The higher level you go, the more coverage of kanji you will see. I myself currently only holding one book of 準一級 (pre 1 level before the highest 1 level) because I don’t have that much time to put my time in it and it shows 常用漢字 2000 characters + extra academic 1,000 characters which is very helpful for reference purposes. It helps a lot as if it’s dictionary if you have to search for which kanji exactly you want. In terms of 3,000 character dictionary, the Kodansha’s Kanji Learner’s Dictionary, revised and expanded edition really helps a lot too considering it has in depth explanation of every each characters within in that range. I hope this reaches your Interest.

    Hey Lindie how many years did it take you to you to pass the N3 level and have you aver thought about studying in Japan ? Also I'm actually studying for the N3 and i was wondering if it's better to study Japanese and other languages at University ( but I found out that the university brings you just at an N3 level which I already am ! ) or going to study in Japan for some months ?

    • @LindieBotes
      @LindieBotes  5 років тому

      I've been studying since 2014 and I took N3 last year. I have thought about studying in Japan but I'm working now and don't want to waste time until I'm really sure what I'd wanna do for masters. I have a video about learning languages at university so maybe that can help! I think immersion in Japan might be a better method than learning at university.

    • @annab3592
      @annab3592 5 років тому +1

      Hi! (I might not be Lindie, but maybe I can be helpful.) For me, learning languages is a journey of self-exploration. I'm always experimenting with my studies. I recommend that to you too. You might want to track the time you spend learning and write down how many hours you've put into a language (I use that to maintain a healthy relationship between the amount of money I spend on resources and the amount of time I'm actually using them, some mobile apps like Mastery or Timesheet are helpful). Or maybe you'll decide to buy a textbook and use its table of contents as a tracker. You could also take a step into the unknown, translate a topic you like into Korean, google it and try reading articles that show up (after a week of reading about "Tagebuch schreiben" in German I was seriously fed up, but the vocabulary stuck like glue afterwards, it was totally worth it). I hope some of this helps! Or gives you an idea of what to do.
