      I think ppl understand this wrong. I think what they mean is that money s not nessesary gonna make you happy. Rich ppl also sometimes commit suicide because of depression etc.

    At least there are foodbanks these days. When my children were small, we went through a period from September to January where my wages did not come through. We collected the wilting vegetables from the tray outside the greengrocers at the end of the day, scavenged for hazel nuts, blackberries and other free growing fruits in the woods and fields, grew what we could in the back garden. The child benefit gave us a little money for limited electricity, and whatever was over bought mostly flour, eggs , and dried pulses.

    Food banks are a blessing in disguise. As long as we have food banks then the Government of the day will not do anything. That's the trouble with food banks, the Government have passed the buck onto the ordinary poor citizens. If we had no food banks imagine how many people would die from either starvation or committing crimes in order to try and survive and that would not look good for the Government now would it.

    • @gordonlawrence1448
      @gordonlawrence1448 2 роки тому +1

      Actually the government are using poverty as a political tool according to the UN so even if food banks did not exist they would do nothing. This is borne out by the fact that "care in the Community" and "big society" have proven to not work yet the cuts to provision for disabled are radical and getting worse.

    When I was working on dialysis with 8 other medical issues my wages for the local labour council went down too less than 10k per year. Travel to work and medical appointments cost me £1500 a year. Food became hard to afford but luckily for me I was able to eat out of next doors bin when it was financially hardest. The people next door hadn't worked for 20 years. Both fit.. and luckily got enough benefits to throw half freshly cooked eaten joints of pork into the bin. I luckily ate out of it a few times until they caught me and threatened to inform the police and council for Trespass. I worked for the local labour council at the time doing very long shifts in a children's home. The manager new what i was going through so made sure any time I attempted to eat at work would make me stop eating. Laughing and make me have a meeting as each shift why I needed dialysis. Laughing whilst doing so.

      Nope that is simply not true. The population of Europe 100 years ago was far smaller than it is now. IE near 750 Million now compared to 300 million in 1900 and less than 150 million in 1800. Most of the European wars were fought over two factors, dynastic control (EG the 100 years war) and in the case of Napoleon the belif that France was superior and therefore deserved to rule the world (Survival of the fittest from Darwinism). The rest were purely over control of spice routes and silk routes.

    Gas isn't all that expensive. I carried out a little experiment yesterday, I left my heating on at 20 degrees for 24 hours and used up 24kwh of gas which at 9p each plus 27p standing charge cost me £2.46 I was blooming freezing though. That is £17.22 a week or £447.72 for the coldest 6 months of the year(October to March). Do what I am going to do and put extra credit on the gas meter over the summer months. Even if you use £5 per day in gas that will cost you about £900 or so which building up a credit at £200 a month is doable between now and September. Go without now so you don't have to later.

    I give to the food banks. It is very sad, when one looks at the money spent on the pandemic, if the news is reliable, many millions has been wasted, despite government mandate good intentions. One hopes that soon, the situation will be resolved, whereby people don’t have to rely on food banks. The present laws, sadly are failing these vulnerable people. In 2022 everyone on the planet, should have clothing, shelter, food and a environment that is caring, sharing, loving. Hopefully things will improve for everyone soon.

      It should be obligatory for all food selling chains not to destroy food but to automatically donate it to food banks in each country. Get real: if a person truly is hungry, self esteem is the least of her worries. Indeed, the poverty problems do need to be fixed, but in the meanwhile, I have enough sense to know that luxuries have to go in order to survive. Maybe you've never been truly hungry and didn't know how you were going to feed yourself. That's not a good place to be. Not going hungry trumps self esteem everytime.

      People in the west don't know we are born. Look at places like the Philippines, where they literally have a cup of rice to share between two children for lunch. There are loads of places where they only eat once, or twice a day. It's ashame that even the help from the food bank is lackluster. None of those foods were worth a damn nutrition wise. Unfortunately food banks can only work with what's donated and try to give out filling foods vs healthiest foods. That's why there's so many starving people that don't look like skeletons. Think of the kids on charity commercials with huge bloated bellies. It's from empty foods, that just cause distention. You'll notice it on farms too, where animals (esp horses) get "hay belly" when there's just straw to eat instead of a varied diet.
    I was saying in another comment that I really feel that kids of the depression had one advantage over kids now a days -- natural foods. Parents hunted, made broths, they foraged dandelions, wild herbs, etc. Much better than pastas or carb fillers (breads). There's a reason that generation set records for longevity for life, despite chemicals, -- good foundation.

A coupl of slices of toast and some milk is a normal breakfast isn't it? So if any child is going to bed hungry it's a matter for social services. You can feed one adult for a week for under twenty five quid if you're careful about how you spend your money.

      We have had to do this and it is possible. We go to tesco, and we can get tons for £20 with non branded food. Aldi and Lidl are brilliant too. With children though, it is a completely different ball game. Baby formula is so so expensive, nappies and child care costs.

      £25 is actually quite a lot of your benefits if you're on universal credit and need to pay bills, and possibly top up housing benefit or pay back debts.

      @@rainbowkitten8990 Breast feeding is free and better than formula, and cloth nappies are cheaper and better for the environment than plastic.

    I cant believed this lady, she and her son living in a nice place, nice clothing, food are just at her reach and she's still complaining?I suggest for her to go here in the Philippines and see personally the family living in slum area, 12 children, shanty houses, food from garbage, no education, no future and yet surviving. I bet she will choose her present situation, all that she need is some dis
    karte as what we called in filipino.
