- Rising prices are forcing people into poverty in Ireland. There are now 7,000 homeless in the country, and 2,500 of them are children. The Wild Deer Association of Ireland is helping by feeding them hot venison on the streets of Dublin, provided by Ireland’s deerstalkers and served by volunteers from the Lamh Failte charity.

Why shoot deer?
There are more than two million red, roe, fallow, sika, muntjac and Chinese water deer in Britain’s countryside and semi-urban areas, the highest level for 1,000 years. Numbers have doubled since 1999, according to the Deer Initiative, the UK government’s deer agency.
Deer are an attractive and an important part of our wildlife. However, they have no natural predator in the UK so numbers must be sensibly and strategically managed to keep them in balance with their habitat and to prevent damage to crops, trees, woodland flora, gardens and other wildlife.
Deer cause £4.5 million-worth (Forestry Commission Scotland) of damage to plantations and other commercial woodlands in Scotland. Crop damage is estimated at £4.3m a year according to DEFRA, with the greatest damage on cereal crops in east and south-west England.
More than 8,000 hectares (Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology) of woodland with SSI status is currently in ‘unfavourable’ or ‘recovering’ condition due to deer impacts such as browsing and fraying. Deer can also influence the variety of wildlife in woodlands and other habitats by altering structural and plant species diversity. According to the University of East Anglia’s Dr Paul Dolman, that has resulted in a 50% decline in woodland bird numbers where deer are present, impacting particularly on nightingales, blackcaps, chiffchaffs and warblers.
Deer are susceptible to Bovine TB and may be responsible for the transmission of TB to cattle. They are also the likely driver behind the UK’s increasing tick population (Scharlemann et al 2008).
Happily, venison is a delicious meat. It is wild, natural and free range, and - almost fat-free - it is one of the healthiest meats available today. Results from research commissioned by the Game-to-Eat campaign (Leatherhead Food International Research 2006) suggest that there are real health benefits to eating game. Venison is high in protein, low in saturated fatty acids and contains higher levels of iron than any other red meat.

while the government is part of the blame, I blame the Irish who have been riding the system for years. there's literally council estates where kids grow demanding council Houses. Ireland is full of opportunity, long term sponges need to be cut off from support so the money goes to people who are struggling after trying

I'm from USA..times are tough all over. Today I received a good amount of Free food. I divided it up and was able to give a bag of food to 2 different homes. Please try to pay it forward...even with just kindness 😃🙂😃

Dublin city council have a lot of vacant and abandoned properties laying around dublin city center you would think Owen p Keegan who puts compulsory purchase orders on these properties would put them to better use I no single people who was awarded 990euro on hap and they are still homeless 3years later they can’t find a place for 990euro sdcc are able to put ukrain people into vacant properties and hotels but when an Irish person who is sleeping on streets for months rings sdcc for emergency accommodation they try put them into a hostel where they don’t feel safe at all is a hotel not good for someone who is Irish but ukrain gets put in best of hotels and vacant properties not only that they are housed by council and Ras and circle vha b4 an Irish person

It's hard for Filipinos to get a visa to Ireland. So aren't you lucky you don't live here. You'd be homeless too. You can't sleep outside or in a self made hut in the winter. You'd die of hypothermia.

Yeah we were told we need to help Ukrainian women and children I support that. But what's confusing me is that the majority of these Ukrainian refugees are black men and don't speak Ukrainian. If you are Irish and struggling to live tear up your documents and claim asylum. The government will care for you then.

I will add I may not be comfortable with social sport/money hunting.But land management/legitimate pest control with edible quarry at the end that is truly wild is a gift.The only crime would be not to use every edible part and distribute it to less fortunate folk.If all shooting and culling produced these results what a nicer place shooters would be in.He says through rose tinted spectacles and wishing people would just be nice to each other.Rambling over thanks.

Im in Ireland 16 years. I've always worked and paid my taxes. I injured myself at work and it has become a chronic injury due to lack of money to pay for physio and thex1 year wating list to get a scan, so I only work 3 days/week within 2 jobs just to make rent.
Which leaves me with zero extra money left not even for a takeout coffee.
3 weeks ago I was notified by the landlord that he wants to take his flat back and myself and other tenants have until the 1st week of October to move out.
I've been sending emails to proporty owners everyday since, and I haven't even got 1 answer for a viewing.
Time is ticking and I fear that I would be part of the homeless community sooner than Im prepared for.
I have no family here, nobody to help and no plan b. Im all alone and I've been able to manage as Im highly independent but this is getting tighter by the day and that fear keeps me up at night.
Is it even legal to put someone in the street just before winter? May God has mercy on all the people in the same situation as mine and the current homeless people. 🙏🏼
