The "guys just didn't do their job" comment is so telling. This man has no ability for introspection of personal accountability. Sure, many players had bad moments. But, much of that was players asked to do jobs that don't accentuate their strengths. Rather, they were asked to do things they are weak at in many cases. He makes a cursory remark about the coaching staff and it being their job to gameplan and prepare the players, but he doesn't even hint that the there was anything fundamentally wrong with the gameplan. He almost seems to think they just didn't execute it well enough, instead of recognizing that it was doomed from the start.
He NEVER accepts blame when things go wrong. He makes it sound as if the team bullies him about the roster, the starters, the formation that THEY want. What a son of a bitch.
To be fair, USA had 20 minutes that dominated the game, it led to the goal, COL was taking it easy since USA needed to look to tight the game, so they needed to make the effort, Colombia just needed to manage its favorable score. But after the USA goal, COL woke up and, well, showed their level. I think it would’ve been better if the USA don’t score, maybe the game ends only 2 to nothing.
The team underestimating Colombia falls on GGG and his lack of mentally preparing them. Also, players not doing their job shows that GGG is slowly losing the locker room and their trust in following his tactics
With a coach that speaks like this after a pathetic loss at home, yeah the players look about the same with their on field performance. It's remarkable this guy has a job
It’s insulting. But they like Greg because he’s buddies with the guys he’s selective with. What a joke. The players take after the coach. And we saw that first hand against Col. his presser makes me want to reach through the tv and shake him. He infuriates me!!!!
Where does the lack of respect for the opponent originate from? Who gets the team focused? Berhalter! Also, does this guy EVER throw himself into the circle of blame?
100% correct. The biggest lack of respect was thinking they were going to create some small field game and play out of the back against such a team. It shows that he, as the coach, vastly underestimate how badly Colombia would punish that approach.
Bad tactical approach. Lack of motivation, lack of conditioning, giving up after the 3rd Colombian goal, etc etc etc. these are traits of a badly coached team. No accoubtability, no pride, no headship. Just excuses and finger pointing. Just like after the Trinidad debacle….blaming one player after the team looked completely lost having to play with 10 against a team made up amateurs. They should have had no problem drawing against Trinidad. But no…excuses and finger pointing. Gregg should have been fired after that game! Now it’s a wake up call?????? That call came long ago!

A world class coach won't do miracles with players who lack talent.
