I really liked this episode. It shows that he’s beyond just being a soccer coach. He’s actually a pretty cool guy with some cool interests. Very humble and down to earth.
He seems like the type of guy to make a powerpoint beforehand with all his potential essentials, presented it to his staff, analyzed it, and then practiced all his answers for hours. Probably what he did between the Japan and Saudi games
If I remember right this is what got him the job for the Columbus Crew. He showed up to the interview with a complete presentation and detailed plan about for how he would coach the team, what type of players he would want to bring in, assistants, etc. lol
never knew he was like this, sometimes you need to sit down and have a talk with someone, dude looks like a total legend hope he brings the best out of the team and they go all the way even if they aren't the favorite team there is no reason not to dream or believe once its in the knock out stage anything can happen if they can turn up for 90 minutes one game at a time they can do this
@@MotionManN1ck I am glad he is getting the job done. I really want to him to prove everyone, including myself, wrong. Three weeks ago, I am assuming he's going with Long/Zimmerman CB partnership, thankfully he is starting Ream every match.
I think this is his true list 1. Aaron Long (healthy or injured, hes there with him in camp) 2. Verticality 3. Balance 4. Backwards passes 5. His Sounders boys for non soccer duties (Roldan & Morris) 6. Bad in game management 7. His shampoo for all his hair 8. His Powerpoints 9. His brother that works for the USSF 10. His feelings Hope we do well in the WC
Began his coaching career being fired in the Swedish 2nd Division for a "lack of offense", then somehow failed upwards to coach in MLS where he won just 38% of this games. You may wonder why USSF appointed such a poorly-credentialed candidate to coach our national team, but here's an important clue: Gregg's big brother Jay was the Executive for Operations at USSF. Enjoy the World Cup!
He's not here via conspiracy theory or due to lack of merit. His teams get to the playoffs more often than not. The USMNT is 36-11-9 in 56 matches under Berhalter, a 65.4% win rate and they are the fastest ever to 25 wins under him. But managers have been shown to be a marginal influence on wins anyway-what we need is better player talent as a nation, not to get all wound up in the better picks between okay players to slightly less okay players.
I have listened to Gregg say "Carpano" a hundred times now and I still cant quite figure out if its his accent that makes him pronounce it "Campana" or if he just doesn't know what he's talking about. But he did take the time to speak on vermouth being refrigerated which not enough people need to hear.
Appreciate him qualifying after 2018. As a human seems like a good guy. We have a solid core for 2026. Not logical choices for bringing Morris, Long and Ferreira over Pepi, McKenzie & Tillman. Our ceiling without him would have been QF with him we will be lucky to get out of the group.
Semis, actually. We have that magical "thing" even the most respected, powerful soccer nations would kill for: The best midfield lineup at the tourney.
@@asnark7115 Thinking that the USMNT have a better midfield lineup than Portugal or France is some serious delusion right there. I get that Berhalter's coaching ability may be lacking but, at the end of the day, I see a USMNT squad that lacks considerably in certain areas. Even world-class coaching can only go so far without the necessary quality of player.
Maximum respect to this guy. He’ll mix you a great cocktail and serve you a decent meal. Unlike some of the other self-centred wankers who are too busy flashing their gold Patek Phillipes.
Love all the snarky comments. I see both sides. On one hand, I def criticize him for his management, esp bringing players like Roldan and Morris to the wc... But on the other hand you can see why the team is so close, believes, etc. The guy seems very chill, I'm sure he has great buy in Witt the players. Everyone played so hard and I'm sure a big reason was him. Would love to meet the guy. All that said, I do think it's time for a different coach to take us to the next level.

Aaron Long is Gregg's true #1 essential

Gregg Berhalter
