Yeah, Greg has done some majorly questionable stuff. But honestly, it's hard to be all that mad at him since most of the people around him are even worse. Take, for example, the part of the first book when Greg was the cartoonist for the school paper. Mr. Ira changed all the dialogue to a mockery of everything Creighton the Cretin stood for. But when Greg refused to let himself be used like that, Mr. Ira switched to running Zoo Wee Mama, completely unaltered. And there was no explanation given for why Rowley's comic was unscathed. They were good until Long Haul. Nowadays Kinney often jumps the shark, and it's pretty obvious that he's trying to stretch the series as long as possible.

It was never proven if he was always this way, or if a lot if this has been caused by puberty or his own experiences and childish impulses
I think that Greg’s behavior is also affected by the bullying he’s been subjected by at the hands of his older brother. While I don’t condone Greg’s behavior, it would only be fair to add Roderick’s influence to this analysis.
I don’t think Greg is a sociopath. He feels empathy for others and he has done some good things. We gotta remember he’s in middle school. Regardless how you wanna spin, Greg looks up to Rodrick (who bullies Greg) and Greg bullies Rowley (who looks up to him). Greg’s parents let Rodrick bully Greg and when he is punished it’s usually a slap on the wrist while Manny gets all the praise and attention. Greg acts this way because he’s bullied by someone he looks up to and he knows Rowley looks up to him in a way so he does the same.
i wouldn’t say that rodrick bullies him, it’s more like normal sibling rivalry. but yeah, i agree with you, especially because people in middle school tend to be stuck-up assholes, so they might come off as sociopathic. i hope greg grows out of it
Breona Warren exactly, these conspiracy videos are really sad cos this is just a kid who is going through middle school getting bullied. Greg just thinks thats how people act to others cos his brother and bulkies. He’ll grow out of it
@@seafoam8845 i dont have any sibling rivalry, but i do have cousin rivalry. My cousin joked by getting a kitchen knife and started walking to me with it.Is he tryna to ACTUALLY murder me?
In the graphic novel “brave” they have a reference to diary of a wimpy kid. The protagonist says: “why do people like this book? The main characters a jerk. He keeps being mean to people and saying it’s a joke” In there it’s called “my badly drawn life”
Not sure if he’s a sociopath but I think you’ve got a point. Maybe the author is talking about what it’s like to have a toxic friend and how someone could be so blind to it especially in middle school where everyone wants to be accepted (it literally happened to me in 7th and 8th grade)
Jeff Kinney is an amazing author. It’s like he’s secretly preparing kids for the real world, so they can just connect. It’s a deep series and the disguise of a kid’s book is absolutely amazing.
I was kinda already thinking that Greg was a bit crazy, Because in the do-it Yourself book (which I bought) There was a snippet of Rowley’s diary, and it showed his perspective, it was pretty sad, And I’m glad this subject is so popular now
since rodrick pranks/bullies greg sometimes greg was ready to get a little brother to annoy but since manny is superprotected by his parents i think rowley is the substitute
I read this when I was younger, and I thought that was just how all boys thought. I was shocked when I released they actually care about other people and Greg was the one who was a sociopath
Not to mention him PUTTING ROWLEY’S LIFE IN DANGER just to see a STATUE of himself. If I found out that’s what my kid’s best friend was doing to them, I’d go through their phone and cut all contact IMEDIATELY.
My Last Entry I’m sick of it. Greg has taken advantage of me for way too long, I broke into Dad’s gun safe and took his Revolver... Chirag, Bryce, Holly, and Fregley are apparently “sick with the flu”. Tomorrow’s the day, Greg..... a person who I treated as a friend had tortured me for the last decade of my life..... I hope you have a nice day at school, Greg... -Slick (This comment is inspired by another)
Honestly, I think Greg's personality is WAY better in the movies, given that he actually LEARNS from the events adapted from each book, to the point where he becomes one of the best characters!!!
I just realized that Rodrick is the least insane of the Heffley brothers. Yeah, he's a bully and a punk, but that's it. Greg is a sociopath, and Manny's just a full-on psycho.
About him being a "sociopath," I think that's just a middle-schooler who is exceptionally good at being an asshole. All teens, including the best ones, usually develop this skill eventually.
I don't think Greg is a sociopath, that's a pretty big accusation and it feels like claiming he has that condition sort of simplifies things. Nah, i think Greg is an egocentric and kind of abusive jerk who does care deeply about others, but puts himself first and tends to take advantage of those who he deems "below him".

I remember in the most recent book "Wrecking Ball" I noticed in the end [SPOILERS AHEAD] that they threw a goodbye party for Greg, and Greg and Rowley actually hugged. So this proves Greg may have a heart for Rowley.
@Andres Paez De la garza I feel Rodrick is responsible for Greg being a jerk. After all, he's been exploited by his brother for years, a feature common in many bullies.
I agree but we do have to remember that Greg doesn’t exactly have the best home situations. Maybe if he had it better at home then he wouldn’t be like this so much. I would explain why he doesn’t have it best at home but I really don’t feel like typing it all. I’m just trying to say that Greg isn’t a completely horrible person he has potential to be a better person and I hope he does end up being a better person in the end of the series because he is my second favorite character in these books. Rowley is my favorite character though.
I think the books aren't aimed for 'normal' kids, but more for the kind of kids who are terrible people. They'll read the book and go '... that's kind of like me ...' and think about their actions a bit.
"He made sure people knew how seemingly how good of a guy he really was" Also Greg: *Got his "best friend" kicked out of safety patrol by tormenting kids and not taking the fall while thinking HE was DOING THE RIGHT THING* *Ruined an entire school play because he refused to sing of all things* *Tried to brag about breaking his "best friend's" arm* (This is just the first book the list goes on)
I've gone through this shitty type of manipulation myself, and boy does it feel horrible. I being the nice kid rarely ever told my parents or my teachers, thinking it will get better, but manipulation soon turned into abuse and harassment, but I feel good that I finally went ahead and complained, and boy did it feel good to be out that kid's grasp. And sure enough, His main channel got wiped out, his other channels were getting wiped out later and Rusty Cage? Rusty didn't get a community strike until he and mumkey deliberately went to twitter UA-cam. In the end, Rusty got a strike.
dude I've laughed so hard when he said in the beginning of Hard Luck that Abigail is with Rowley to use him right after he talked about why Rowley was so important to him because he scouts for dog poop, writes his english assignments in cursive for him, and carries his stuff for him.
I personally think Greg's actions are a mix of teenager and his upbringing. He was bullied all his life, and he wants a vessel to take out all that pent up anger he must feel after being bullied for so long by Rodrick and not being able to do anything about it. That's kind of how I turned out.
The difference between the books and (animated) movies is Greg and Rowley’s friendship. In the first book Greg said he doesn’t want to be friends with Rowley quoting “Rowley is my best friend, but that’s a subject to change”, but in the (animated) movies, Greg is happy that Rowley is his friend and even saids “I’m glad I’m not alone in this thing”
I always hated Greg, his actions just get worse as the books go along. I believe that’s why I think the movies (the first three, at least) are better than the books, as we see Greg bonding with other characters, learning and improving.
No wonder all the girls like Rowley tbh I did too he's funny, he understands the girls, he's extroverted, and he is a nice kid overall. and Greg is stuck up, antisocial, tries to be manly but it never works out, takes out his anger and failures on Rowley, he keep on laughing at others, he doesn't accept anyone unless there is something in it for him. so ofc he would be the unpopular kid.
Plot twist: Greg heffly is stuck in a book, and writes stories to us for his life to keep living, cause the more we read the books the longer he lives!! Correct me if I’m wrong
FreeCats Mr Jefferson often calls Rowley an awesome friendly kid SPOILER: In Dog Days when the Jeffersons and Greg are at the beach cabin they play charades. Rowley is obviously being a dog and Mr Jefferson suggests 'An awesome, friendly kid'.
Manny is such an evil little toddler. He literally shut off all the power, took all the food and heat sources, and watched as his family suffered. I think the part where he broke down and started to whine about how no one taught him how to tie his shoes was just an excuse, but I could be wrong considering that he’s only a toddler. I think all Rodrick and Greg need are a few good morals, but Manny deserves to be kicked out of the family.
Hmm well the books and movie are in Greg's perspective. What if Greg was just manipulating the reader into thinking his friends and family are terrible people? I mean Manny is three and managed to turn off a circuit breaker. One, a three year old shouldn't know what a circuit breaker is, let alone how to use it. Second, in the books Manny is shown to be a master manipulater, I'm not sure a three year old would figure how to manipulate his parents.
@@barryseikko479 then who turned the heating off tho? I think that Greg’s behavior is also affected by the bullying he’s been subjected by at the hands of his older brother. While I don’t condone Greg’s behavior, it would only be fair to add Roderick’s influence to this analysis.
It wasn't just Rodrick, it's implied their dad beats Greg. Greg takes it out on Rowley.
Pally
So in short, blame the dysfunctional family.
He’ll grow out of it
But thats how siblings usually act to one another
As someone with an older sibling, there is normal sibling rivalry and locking your younger sibling in the basement.
