I don't know why, but phantom luts fall apart when I use them. Lots of noise, too much contrast and darkness.Tried different exposure/white balance tests. Lemming work fine on slog. I use a7c. Can't figure out what I do wrong.
I've used Leeming Luts for awhile, and they were great whilst shooting something indoors where you can control everything, and easily do the ETTR, however now I'm starting to do more outdoors shoots, run and gun sort of stuff, and I find it very difficult, as you always have to mess around with the settings, in order to keep the ETTR. So I'm sort of on the market for something different.
hi there, very informative and helpful video. but I am mostly shooting outdoors and animals so cant expose to the skin tone. if I use 94+ suggested zebra level for slog3 and dial it down a bit, the image becomes very bright and clipped while using phantom luts. is there a zebra level I can use for more consistent exposure in stead of eyeballing for phantom luts for nature shooting? thx a lot.....
You kept mentioning "overexpose" when talking about the leeming luts, I think it's important to point out that at no point were you overexposed because like you mentioned you didn't clip your highlights, you were simply exposing to the right
When I set my zebras I am setting It at 55 or 60? Lower limits or stnd range? But wouldn't the background be blown out? I've been using it same as photography at 107
Yeah depends on lighting situation. In ideal situation if background was blown out exposing for skin you would have to bring in lights or bounces to bring down exposure of background
Hands down the phantom luts. I use them for every single project by now. I LOVE how my footage looks AND that I can expose to my eye. I used Leeming luts previously but always kinda struggled with the ETTR rule. As a documentary shooter things can happen very fast and in quickly changing environments like outdoor to indoor in seconds, the phantoms allow me to just trust my eyes in terms of exposing. I shoot with an FX3.
Exactly! It’s much easier to expose for it and you cannot deny the look you get applying it. Saves you soo much time post processing. And he released an update shortly after I released this video making them even better (if that was even possible) 😱
@@brendonleerogers1794 I am using his updated LUTs for my current project. I am a few days away from locking the film and yet I switched all of his LUTs to the new ones. That's how much I love the update. The skin colors seem to pop just a tad more. Love it.
I'm leaning more towards buttery luts as it seems like it creates a more unison grade between different camera bodies which can then be matched better. Leeming looks slightly easier to work with but what's your experience in matching different color profiles with different cameras?
Hey thanks for the comment 🙏 Haven’t tried leeming lut to match camera. But phantom is pretty easy to match a7siii and my older a7iii. Buttery same thing it’s easy to match multiple camera. And there’s more support. Filmconvert same thing. I like it to grade the travel and personal stuff. And like it when matching up with drone footage. 😀 They’re all good tbh just depends on what your goals are. Leeming = color accuracy Phantom/buttery= Alexa rec 709 look Filmconvert= film emulations
i just slap it on slog 3 footage and make adjustments from there. the idea with phantom luts is itll match slog 3 to the arri rec 709 look as closely as possible :)
How does it work with Leeming LUTs when you already have to overexpose by 2-stops with S-LOG 2/3 in general? Do you use the LUT while recording to reference exposer?
It’s been brought to my attention that the legacy version of phantom lut will have the black point set to 5 ire and not with the standard version.
Noise I never notice. But that’s because image will come out super dark

Phantom are getting more versatile as far as supporting more of the major camera brands

Use false color. You can also do spot metering and put it to measure that one slot to get skin tone correct.

Great video. Question. Do I have to use a rec 709 corrective lut before applying the phantom lut or do just slap the phantom and correct the greens?
