Finally somebody who actually is talking about how great this adaptation is instead of just screaming “ITS GOT A BLACK WOMAN AND GAY KISSING! WOKE WOKE WOKE!” Like that’s literally all I’ve been able to find on UA-cam about this show. Thank you
True i think it wasn't even done to make jackal gay rather it was to show how he was actually attracted to the innocence and goodness of the guy but also he was just a tool to complete his mission I don't think jackal actually loves his wife either in the last episode he was threatening to kill her before the car accident And the matter of black woman to me it wasn't because her character wasn't about being black or woman no she was a spy who will explotie anything she can to catch jackal Jackal was killing people left and right but to us she was more cruel by the way she exploited her informant
@@ajeetchoudhary6645 i’m all up for people criticising Bianca’s character as at some points I was a bit annoyed with her characters persistence and lack of care for what it is doing for her family but then again it makes for a perfect parallel with the jackal as he going through the final kill for his family. I do think jackel loves his family but similar to Bianca they love the game more. I’m mostly just getting annoyed at all of the people on UA-cam are simply hating on it because it’s a new adaptation that has a black woman is a main character and that to them is “pushing an agenda” which is stupid really. I don’t think the jackal is gay. I just think he would do anything too finish his job, it wouldn’t matter to me if he was but still. And it’s stupid that people are boiling everything down to this show is pushing an agenda when it’s really not it’s just a good well constructed show ya know?
Amen! The complaints of the gay kissing is especially rich too - seeing as how In Richard Gere and Bruce Willis adaptation, (or reimagining), Bruce also makes how with a dude. And that was back in the early to mid 90's, decades before this constant complaining about stuff being too woke. Granted, me personally - I'm a communist politically speaking an don't have a problem with some of the "woke" messaging per-se, however I do have a huge problem when it's so poorly executed and not woven into the story well enough. It's just so blatant, in your face, and preachy that a lot of the time i find it totally cringe-inducing. It;s just thrown in there to virtue signal and pander to other liberals, in both Hollywood and the general audience to get a pat on the back for being so "progressive." So crap annoys the hell outa me. But when handled right - the messaging can be extremely powerful and moving, for the new "Dune" movies. When it comes to casting, I'm much more lenient and don't see a whole lot of "messaging" being involved. And as for stuff like a couple gay dudes making out - that's not woke messaging, there is no messaging there other than normalizing the LGBT community. Which is why the complaints about this series is just so dumb, there is no "woke" messaging going here accept for, like i said, normalizing and giving representation to non-straight people and casting a black woman. This show was great imo, i totally agree with ya on that!
@EclectedFilm I am convinced they are trying to audition all these black women for the role of Amanda Waller. Like WTF? It's not a coincidence that we get Grotesquerie, Them S2 on Amazon Prime, Found on NBC, The Boys which are basically the same premise: black female protagonist chases after white male serial (killer/ assassin/ kidnapper/r@pist) except Sister Sage from The Boys but she could also play Amanda Waller. Ambessa is an animation but there's concept for animated version.
i am a true fan of the first jackal movie. My mother let me watch it for the first time in the evening when I was a kid, and I found the Jackal very fascinating. So of course i watched the show and i have to say that the flair of the Jackal was adapted very well. it's a really good series, a bit cheesy here and there, like some dialogs with his wife, but all in all very captivating and precise. thanks for the review
Mate, The Wire or The Sopranos or I, Claudius is a masterpiece. This is C+ TV at best. Can’t hold a candle to S1 Killing Eve which it is clearly attempting to ape … and failing.
Nice review - It's on my Xmas season watch list Huge fan of the original, and of the recent Fincher movie The Killer with Michael Fassbender - similar themes And I don't recall the beginning of the John Wick being... bombastic. That's a Bond movie
Excellent review and quite accurately said. By the way, If people who complained about Lashana Lynch 's being a " a Black Woman " actually followed her storyline instead of being racist and extremely ignorant as fk, they should recognize her as the replacement for Daniel Craig 's 007 in too late to die" his last time as Bond, she's MI6 just carrying her storyline over to Alexander Duggan as her next case to solve. It just shows how people are disgustingly Hateful at every chance they can get, but they want every person to treat them fair. Incredible.
I like that fun idea of her being the same character from bond but that’s definitely not the case her character is quite different and she has a different name etc. i dont know if you were just joking about that idea and i look dumb now or what but i just didnt want to be anybody misinformed thinking this was a bond spin off.
1. Gay scene in original film 2. Female character was poor not because she was female but because the way the series was written she was male in every way but her sex and it wasn't believable. 3. We had background into the Jackals past but his opponent had no background apart from the fact she had her daughter when she was young. No idea if she was ex military or her firearms training.
American. Ex-soldier combat veteran along British protagonist line. EclectedFilm's fulsome praise for Jackal Redmayne deliberately skips its Achilles heel Lashana Lynch; whose character inclusion is political gender race correctness run amuck. Simply put, she ruins what otherwise was a fine effort all round. Her death at season conclusion simply elevates her character to Banquo status with her spectre haunting next season.
Really? The series is a fun watch but it doesn't even try to be realistic, on any level. It's a pantomime, a fantasy, almost just a simple exercise in wish-fulfillment.
I love the book and the original film, and was shocked at how much I liked this adaptation. They took some interesting choices when “modernising” the story merging some plot points like the gay character and the French woman the Jackal seduces in the original. In the book the Jackal is definitely not depicted as homosexual, he does however clearly seduced the French woman. Combining the two characters makes sense, but given how they also extended the Jackal’s backstory to include a wife and child it doesn’t really make sense to me. I know sexuality and gender are a lot more fluid these days but it still seems odd to have him having a very attractive wife and child and also have him seduce the theatre security guard which considering the Jackals skills in breaking and entering and infiltration seems entirely unnecessary. Yes he initially does it due to an error he makes, but he continues with it despite it not being part of his plan- unless he meant to drop his phone and meet that exact security guard (who happened to be gay) in order to seduce him and help him slip into the theatre prior to the security being enhanced. It’s not very Chekhov’s gun. It would have made more sense if the only way he could’ve gained access to the theatre by seducing the guy or him being gay and falling for the guy (and not having a wife and kid) and him deliberately setting up the accidental encounter. But that’s not how it went down. It was a mistake on the jackal’s part which caused it all which makes no sense considering how precise and exacting he is shown being in the first episode and how he’s depicted each subsequent episode until the failed attempt in the theatre where upon his careful plans fall to bits but he still maintains some control. And I don’t have an issue with the MI6 agent hunting him. Entirely reasonable given how they’ve modified the plot that it would be focused on MI6 investigating rather than the investigation following say the German police investigating the failed assassination attempt as we are crossing so many countries with the plot. But it does seem to ignore those countries in other ways. MI6 agents seemingly roam free fully armed in whatever European location they need to be with local police taking orders from them which is just ridiculous. I could understand it more and suspend my disbelief if it was the CIA or FBI doing it but the British? Just seems like a stretch especially given the UKs relationship with Europe these days. Finally what I really take issue with the MI6 agent is not her race or gender but the Mary Sue-ness of her to paraphrase another UA-camr. She just doesn’t come across as believable and has full on plot armour for the whole thing (till the end at least) and is constantly right for no reason whatsoever. And the acting is terrible. Her backstory with her family is kind of pointless and only seems to be there to pad the run time and show you how tough it is being an alpha woman who’s better than everyone else but is constantly held back by “the man” (ironic considering her superior is also a woman). I skipped through all of her back story scenes and most scenes with her that don’t directly relate to the jackal and the assassinations and it made for a much more streamlined and enjoyable viewing experience. As I said it only seems to be there, much like giving the Jackal a family, to extend the viewing time and give them a reason to do another series rather than the miniseries I assumed this was. One thing I can say is that it’s definitely a better watch than the Bruce Willis version from 1997 with Richard Gere and his terrible Northern Irish accent! But I still prefer the original film.
I dont like how he kills many innocent people in the show. Should have made a assassin that sticks to the target. Character is just a scambag who will kill anyone to get what he wants but they still portray him as semi good family men just mass murdering for money
I actually think that’s what makes the show so good - it contrasts the times he is with his wife and son so well, because at heart, he is just a cold blooded ruthless individual.
i am SO ANGRY with this 'adaptation'... 🤬 SO MUCH POTENTIAL and then RUINED!!!! Eddie Redmayne... i think is the main reason it was remarkable and kept me watching but Lashana Lynch?? Come on!!!... Fine actor but completely *MISS-CAST!!!* I am so sick of seeing either tiny, petite women act the part of a special forces level 'badass', or in this case...one who couldn't even do a single pull-up! 😣 ...and WORST OF ALL - STUPID *cliff-hanger ending?!?!* Come on!!! Was very relieved at the end {SPOILER BELOW👇} ..that he killed her (EXACTLY what would really happen to this stupid woman....the character i mean....lol, i don't blame Lashana for the casting! 😁....)..... FACTS! I've been looking for a review/breakdown just like this for weeks!
The professional obsessed with their craft reminds me of Michael Mann's films (Collateral, Heat, Thief, etc)
Collateral for sure. Going to have to watch Thief though.
A truly underrated show. I was pleasantly surprised and entertained.
Great video; eloquent and comprehensive. Just subbed. keep em coming!

i just like how they reshuffled "Charles DeGaulle" into "Ulle Dag Charles" 😂
That is genius - I hadn’t even thought of that!
I hadnt heard of this show until i just came upon your video. it's fantastic! Thank you for putting me on!
It is fantastic! I’ll be doing a 2024 wrap up video of all the great shows that have been out this year, of which there have been many!
It’s superb, the only problem I have is that I find it difficult to think of Redmane as a sociopath, but manage it I do.
Surprisingly, I don’t have that issue at all - to me he almost inherently pulls it of!
I think that works really well in the show. "Not him!" Yeah he would fool me too.

really enjoyed this, good luck with your channel,i hope it grows...
Thank you for the kind words, I do to!
it can't be retold any better because the 1'st movie was very close to the real history of the times , and its tradecraft was kept simple and real
I do think this series does add something! View it independently and it’s still great!
subbed - good quality video
Thank you!
The Day of the Jackal, Killing Eve...
These shows are prime
It is good isn’t it!
The original 1973 film is so damn good that I really don't need another version. I saw The Jackal in theater and that was trash.
Not everyone will like “remakes” or heavily relying on an existing fan base, but sometimes it works - it’s all subjective
no mention of the brosnan version?
Just wanted to keep it about the show
They constantly try to deny our greatness ; (
Most excellent, you are correct.
Why thank you!
If you really liked this, you should check out those other current spy series, "The Agency" and "Black Doves," two shows I thought superior:)
I have watched the Black Doves - very good, but personally, not as good. Currently watching The Agency - very good, might be better…
best underrated show
It is fantastic!
Ethel Redmayne isn't Edward Fox.
Indeed - he is not, but he is great none the less
@EclectedFilm I'm sorry, but in my humble opinion he really isn't. Not in anything. Right background and everything for an English actor as well. X
Mate, The Wire or The Sopranos or I, Claudius is a masterpiece. This is C+ TV at best. Can’t hold a candle to S1 Killing Eve which it is clearly attempting to ape … and failing.

I enjoyed The Killer - The Agency is also very good as a series and that is on Paramount with Fassbender in as well
so does jackal die again???

Jason Bourne being pulled from the sea was bombastic?
I had the same thought about Jon Wick. Funeral, dog, driving scene, getting gas.
it's woke gabrage & ur a liberal , stay mad , Trump forever MAGA

Show would of been good without all the relationships rubbish
I don’t know about that - nothing I felt was overly unnecessary
@EclectedFilm it just dragged it out in my opinion
Well opinions can vary, but I’m all for people stating theirs!
I dont like how he kills many innocent people in the show. Should have made a assassin that sticks to the target. Character is just a scambag who will kill anyone to get what he wants but they still portray him as semi good family men just mass murdering for money

@EclectedFilm second season he needs to pay for all he has done or on a redemption path

Always gotta have a season 2 potential
Show is inferior compared to movie on so many levels, from cast, cinematography to the story.
Still makes for excellent television though!
