Netflix made the right decision bringing this back
Переглядів 305 місяців тому
Dexter is back on Netflix, and with it, I thought it prudent to detail why it is worth the watch, or even re-watch on the streaming service. Airing from 2006-2013, Dexter follows the life of a Miami Metro blood splatter analyst who has a past time of being a serial killer. For more things film, Subscribe to EclectedFilm

The first in a new series, alongside my 'Finding Meaning' episodes, 'examining power' looks top analyse powerful figures in film and television. These characters are often of questionable nature, and seek to be nothing more than the basis for some exploration into the human condition. Though House of Cards may have seen its final season air many a year ago, Frank Underwood remains to be an extr...

Tried 3 times to watch Succession and failed. Cant wait for Industry aeason 4
Let's be honest here: Industry is really good, but Succesion is superior in every way and that's ok
Even the writers of Industry wouldn’t put it in the same level as Succession. The 5-season arc of Succession is unrivalled.
Succession has 4 seasons
Harper is a young Logan Roy.
She is certainly as ruthless as he was
I like these shows for different reasons. Succession is definitely Shakespearean in many ways while Industry is Faustian, Austenian and even Dickensian. The show if fast paced highlights absurdity brilliantly.
It’s not even close to succession until season 3. season 3 is far better than “The Bear” but not yet Succession status, as far as prestige tv goes.
I’ll keep checking back to see how wrong you were but I understand the strategic attempt to getting viewers
Jun Tao! Jun Tao!!
For me, Rishi best resembles Kendall, not Harper
Not Robert? After that finale I couldn’t help but see Kendal Roy
@@EclectedFilm Robert is a good shot - there definitely are similarities: e.g. Nicoles death was cocaine-related and Kendall (unintentionally) killed the waiter for cocaine... but overall Robb is much more grounded or down-to-earth than Kendall - he is always in his own world, whereas Robb lives in the real world and occaisionally tries to escape through drugs and alcohol...
Why is everyone trying to force industry on us? If it was really that good it would have a bigger audience there wouldn’t be a concerted effort to try and get people to watch and the fan base would be bigger, succession on the other hand had a cult following by the end of season 1
I just LOVE to see Ken Leung working
He is actually an amazing actor, and Eric is by far my favourite character
More people need to talk about out Industry so thank you for this, season 3 was PHENOMENAL 🤯
Funnily enough, succession flew under the radar for the first 2 seasons - industry seems to be experiencing a similar fate
@@EclectedFilm I remember that as well!! Honestly same with Euphoria for the first half of season 1 too, wasn’t immediately jumped onto, but then once people did it was everywhere - feels like people just started catching onto Industry now, but when season 4 returns everyone else will be raving about it lol
That scene where Harper looks at a graph and it goes up and down was a crazy scene. Never been so tense watching a graph shift
no lmao
I think Industry has WAY better character development. It's not even close. Succession will have its fanboys for sure, so there will be people who just watch a show to compare it to another. I think Industry just keeps getting better and better. I hope they keep cutting back on the adult scenes though. I don't think Industry will get as much praise as Succession, but it really does deserve more attention that it's getting.
I do think there is more character development across a greater range of individuals in Industry than in Succession, you make a good point.
100%. I think the development and writing overall might be better for the sheer fact that it takes risks every season while in Succession they're still rich every season with no real consequences.
Succession could of been better. Would of benefited of slightly more planing with set up and pay off. We could tell they were figuring out as they went along.
I agree, whilst a spectacular show, there are things it could have done better. But the again, that is true for every show
@@EclectedFilm Yes but in run of the mill things you don’t really care. But shows that fall short of a masterpiece are a greater disappointment. Winning a silver medal is sometimes worse than a bronze.
But equally people only remember who came first, and sometimes not even that
The writing and pay-off in Succession are world-class. It would have been a disservice to the point of the story to end it any other way. If the heirs would suddenly come together and lay aside their egos for the good of each other, it would miss the entire point of pathological egotism, a toxic legacy and poisoned gold spoon upbringing which they can never escape.
@@GatlingNG I don’t agree with you. What was the point of the ending of season 2 where Logan says “You are not a killer” then Kendall double crosses him, then you see a smile in Logan’s face at the very end” amazing ending to the season that has literally zero pay off. Then, nobody “kills” anybody to get the top job. It was Masterson’s idea to put Tom, when it should have been Tom pulling the strings and manipulating him to inception that idea in him.
i haven't seen industry, yet i can confidently say: impertinence, where do you get the nerve to compare succession with anything (lol)
Well it’s like comparing Messi to Wayne Rooney - they are both football players!
I'm sorry but you're insane (in the nicest way possible lol). Industry is an amateur wannabe of Succession. The writing is atrocious, they shameless value shock and more so this show prioritizes style over substance. Succession had shock which was almost all cleverly alluded to. Industry is what happens when some people try to do a Succession and The Social Network fan fiction. I respect you taking the time to make this video and voice your opinion but this show is what The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is to what Spider-Man 2 or The Dark Knight was (I'm comparing the latter because apparently Sony execs said TASM2 would be what TDK was to Batman)
I would disagree, but if I had to stake a claim on either side of the fence, it would likely be on Successions side. However, I do think Industry is a fantastic show!
@@EclectedFilm Hey, fair. I thought you'd say Industry given your claims in the video. And even if you did choose Industry, that's fine. Just respectfully, I do not think it's close to Succession in any way
The truth is, succession became an iconic masterpiece within couple of seasons.. every aspect, from acting, trough screenplay til music is almost without fault and original... what did industry become in couple of seasons? One is an all time great series, the other is a "quite good" series.
I do think succession is far more intentional than industry on a more consistent basis I must admit
I just finished season 3 its not better than succession but its close to it so far. industry had a rough first season and repetitively uses sex to reel in attention, Succession is just overall flawless and executes its narrative on a higher level continously love them both and I think Industry is better than the bear.
It is a shame how some shows feel the need to use sexual scenes to real audiences in
@@EclectedFilm I agree, it seems the author really took alot from Euphoria in that aspect, I just became indifferent because Industrys storytelling really improved
We can forgive them, the targeted audience was full of gen Z with an attention span equal to a fish
@@EclectedFilm*reel
Industry is 10% what Succession is/was
Perspective is everything
The thing is that’s the only way your video can make sense to any human on earth that’s seen Succession which is considered one of the best shows of all time and Industry definitely isn’t
Wish the clip was longer showing him catching up with Will.
Honestly, just showing the entire opening credits sequence with your dialogue over it, explaining, would have been much more effective. The stock footage is distracting and undermines your claims by being non-specific.
Well, that movie was a Beast.
Such a great video!
You know that music is an homage to Beethoven, right
the empire and it's consequences, what he acquired and what he sacrificed for if
The waffle in this one is surreal
Ok
lol I had a dumb theory that the intro was going to be revealed to actually have been filmed in present day, we'd see it play out with the adults next to their kid counterparts, that it was going to have all been for some elaborate final season movie / documentary about the Roys as a way to prop up their legacy.
There is also a scene when there is a boy smoking cigar in the young age and it could be Kendall since the kid has long face just like Kendall. Really shows that Kendall has becoming rebellious since teenager.
🥱
So what was it then? You just spoke for 4:45 minutes without saying anything. You “revealed” nothing. Ugh!
Just shots of a super wealthy fam and how the children were raised in suits, with ponies and estates. Nutshell of the past and present.
I would also like to point out that at the end of the intro you can see all 4 kids next to each other standing up but their heads are off camera... It looks like they are hanging...
Also, notice the shot of the back of Logan’s head at the dinner table, then cut to the board room. The kids are at the dinner table, but NONE of them are in the board room
Interestingly, that shot in the boardroom is present in the first season, so i don't know how much they planned this to have a specific meaning since i guess the title sequence was thought out after the first season was written and maybe even shot.
Maybe the images at the intro are from a future documentary filmed after season 4 about Logan Roy, his legacy and his children. They took artistic licenses like the children ages and appearance. Since they are in a media business make sense.
The theme is from Beethoven.
Bravo Sherlock! Change the channel's name to Mr. Obvious!
First time I look a video from you. All the silly meme pictures are bad taste. Downvoted at 30s, moving on...
Any you guys want a 🍋 lol
This is incorrect, we see Logan's face in the very first clip when he puts his hand on his kid's shoulder. Why are all you UA-cam narrators Br*tish?
sounds like hes forcing his voice to sound deeper, could just be me tho
we never skip this one
5 minutes im never getting back
Nicely written and narrated,...I take you talking into the camera over the slightly silly (and too literal) meme-interjections any day ;)
Connor Roy was interested in politics at a very young age
I say 2 people like the vid off my screen
From the music, to the isolated mansion, to kids dressed as adults, to an afternoon where mom and dad had an argument and dad is leaving, it gives off so much sad moments children experience, this intro gives me Sunday afternoon school years sadness flashbacks
Did you grow in such environment?
Is this film aimed at slapping the current generation whose lives are full of hallucinations and consumerism?
