Thanks! Super Hang On was one of my key inspirations for this so I'm glad you see the resemblance. I'd like to have added hills but I think the additional complexity would have put the STE over the edge :)
Wow, this just looks impossibly good for the humble old ST! Huge congratulations on completing it. Loving the deep purple nights sky and stars 🤩 Thought I had UA-cam set to 1.5 x speed it was going so fast 😆Can't wait to play it on real STE hardware - considering picking up a CRT monitor for that authentic ST experience!
That day/night feature is now perrrrfect. Oh, the stunning music compliments the sfx rather than overpowering them! This is one damn fine piece of coding mate. I hope everyone at SV enjoys and appreciates this game. Ofc they will :)
Cheers Barry. Such a shame Atari never produced a Pole Position 3, as it could have made for an interesting rivalry with Sega and their Super Scaler series :)
@@gridleaderretro No, it was intented as a threat oO For I know gonna locate you, kidnap you and put you in my cave for you to improve on other games oO Finally gonna get Switchblade with Music AND SFX at the same time... @@gridleaderretro We talked briefly through Twitter about this project, but I was using my game studio account, Banana Bytes. Dunno if you going to remember. I never owned any Atari computers, I just had (still have) an Amiga and that constant complain of "Lazy ST ports" etc etc. Now I'd love to have this one on the Amiga :D It doesn't just looks like a technical feat, but also looks to be pretty fun to play. Great job :)
Exellent job! This one will be a blast in SV, there’s no need to do the game competition for ST(E), we already have a winner. Congratulations for your future award. You’re Jonathan, by the way, right? You made and absolute masterclass with your enhanced version of Lotus Esprit with Jamie, thank you for your contributions to the ST gaming scene nowadays.
Thank you! I am indeed Jonathan. Don't forget to look at Pole Position for the STE if you've not yet seen it - that was my first prod for the Atari STE.
Impressive. Maybe you should get in touch with Retrogames, there’s a possibility they release an ST mini and this could be a great addition to the built in games. You should do something with the logo, though.
Thanks. No plans to enter any commercial agreements at the moment - I want the game to be freely available to everybody and I don't suppose the amount of money to be made from such agreements would be worth the hassle involved. Happy with the logo as it stands thanks!
Yes - that was very much one of my objectives in creating this game ... to prove that the ST could do a racing game that wouldn't look out of place in the arcades :)
Theoretically the same binary should work unmodified on Falcon but it unfortunately doesn't work correctly on Hatari's Falcon emulation. Hopefully somebody will test it on a Falcon following the release, and we can take things from there in terms of any fixes required.
I've been testing on Hatari's Falcon emulation (don't have real hardware) and it's doing some very strange things. But I have no idea how far I can trust the emulation. Waiting patiently for somebody to ship me a real Falcon so I can test it on the real deal :)
Ah yes, Euduro on the 2600 is one of my key inspirations for this game, along with Super Hang-on, and (obviously) WEC Le Mans. No gimmicks, stunts or power ups - just plain and simple arcade racing :)
This could potentially be ported to the Jaguar. However, everybody I've spoken to so far is adamant that a paid-for physical release should come first, whereas I want the game to be available as a free ROM image from day 1.
@@gridleaderretro Given the work put in, it would only be fair for you to see some of the fruits of your labor. Concerning the Jaguar you could work with Cyrano Jones from Atari Ages to adapt the code for the Atari Fauve and market it in boxes. Jaguar fans like me will buy it, even though it's available for free on the Atari ST. In any case, the game looks general. Does it run on a basic ST or is an STE required? It's a good job!
@@tylerdurden7646 Thanks. I'd like to see the game on Jaguar but it would also be very important to me that it makes good use of the Jaguar hardware. I don't feel that a direct ST port would be enough in this case (even if the Jaguar-owning demographic might disagree). The source will be made available shortly after the STE version is released, so theoretically anybody could attempt a port to Jaguar without my involvement. The ST version is STE-only by the way - I don't believe the STFM could do this feature set at this framerate.
@@gridleaderretroI read that the blitter on the STE is difficult to set up for the CPU. The Jaguar blitter forces the CPU to shuffle 16bit words around. Something which in times of cheap registers had no priority on JRISC. Feels like Flare developed the Blitter for ARM with its forced barrel shift in every instruction. Or this CPU in MortalKombat. I think it is pure 16bit. So I may dislike ObjectProcessor quite a lot, but here it is the better option.
This is going to be amazing. Your masterpiece so far. My only request is that you provide as way to compensate you somehow, even if you drop them ROM for free. Didn't have to be money, but I feel we of the ST community owe you something for having built this.
This is a FAKE game like most Amiga and Atari ST racing games. Simply put your finger on the car you drive in the game....watcth the video...the car NEVER moves! the screen does. Pathetic gimmick...even Batman the Movie game scene where you drive the Batmobile is actually a better racing game than most Amiga and Atari ST racing games... the care actually moves from left to right...AKA you conrol the CAR and not the Screen like in this game.
Just like the arcade versions of Out Run, Super Hang-On and WEC Le Mans where the vehicle never moves and the screen does! They're all so FAKE and terrible! Absolutely awful games that should definitely be consigned to the dustbin of history!
Magical programming and sound (and gameplay) 🙂
Thanks - high praise indeed!
Really reminds me of Super Hang-On Arcade in tech and style ... only lacking height differences on the track.
Looks amazing for STE
Thanks! Super Hang On was one of my key inspirations for this so I'm glad you see the resemblance. I'd like to have added hills but I think the additional complexity would have put the STE over the edge :)
Awesome. As an St owner, I was gutted that the conversion of WEC Le Mans never happened, even though it was advertised...35 years later...
Ah yes, I also waited patiently for that ST WEC conversion and was gutted when it never made it to the shelves :)
The night is wonderful. An astonishing job.
Thanks Gauthier! I'm quite pleased with the day/night transitions.

Feels like an update of the 2600 classic Enduro..looks and sounds amazing 👌
Thanks Gary - Enduro was indeed one of my key inspirations for this project :)
so fast, so beautiful, so excited to test it ! great job

What fantastic work, a really great programming achievement
Thank you! There are much better ST coders than me out there but I'm pleased to create something that makes people happy!
it looks and sounds absolutely sweet
Thanks - glad you like it!
Epoustouflé par la fluidité du jeu sur Atari STE! C'est vraiment bluffant ! 😮
Thank you! I've wanted for a long time to show that racing games don't need to be slow and sluggish on the STE :)
I imagine if atari released pole position 3 this is what it would have looked like. Nice work man.
Cheers Barry. Such a shame Atari never produced a Pole Position 3, as it could have made for an interesting rivalry with Sega and their Super Scaler series :)
@gridleaderretro i think the last scaler racing game atari made was road riot and it wasnt great.
Perfect. I like the big crash when the speed difference is too big between cars. Great improvement!
Thanks - I think it's balanced the gameplay nicely and stops players from ploughing along the straights at full speed :)
Superb!!!!
Merci pour cette énorme réalisation et cette prouesse sur notre Atari STE adoré :)
Thank you! It's sad that only now are we understanding the true potential of the STE.
When Gigachad codes Burning Rubber from memory and accidentally improve on it....
I'm guessing that's intended as a compliment, so I'll take it as such. Thanks!

I still missing that the street isn't going up and down...

the corners dont look like corners, its a little corner near the player car and then a long straight
A lot of sacrifices have to be made to get 50fps on this ancient hardware :)
@@gridleaderretro ah so its deliberate, I thought the author failed to recognize it, sorry
Wow! Looks awesome! Where is the engine sound from? Sounds a lot like Vroom. :)
The engine sound has been created by project team member Junosix - possibly from the BBC sound effects archive.

Un travail fantastique, je n'ai jamais vu un jeu aussi fluide sur ST 👍👏
Est-ce que la route pourra aller en haut et en bas aussi?
I have no plans for hills in this game. Maybe in a future game, although it might mean dropping the 50fps framerate to 25fps.
@gridleaderretro ok, merci en tout cas de travailler sur le STE, machine jamais exploitée à 100% depui qu'elle a été produite 😉
