Right? Last time we sold our home we got one of those moving container units, packed it and moved it to storage. I moved all my personal belongings and left the house with the basics so anyone could feel like the house could be theirs. My walls were a neutral color already and I freshly painted a few walls as well. I had 3 offers above price before the open house!

I have a house near a shore. We bought it because of the location, if i want to sell it i will put whatever price i want and it will be sold within a month in whatever condition it is because own houses near shore are limited. Here u get it - buy a house in a desired place and u will have no problems to sell it later, with unreasonably elevated price

I live in the UK, and sold two years ago. In addition to the advice in the programme, I would say to definitely rent a storage unit. The stuff that you don't get round to decluttering can be hidden away in your unit. They are expensive to rent, but it's only temporary. We got many offers the first day of viewing, one of which we accepted. Decluttering and de-personalising is key.

My friends would clear out all the pet stuff, take the dog and their baby (and most of his stuff) to grandpas and also lug their big coffee table to the neighbours as, although they loved it, it was massive and took up a lot of floor space.
All this for every viewing and it paid off as they sold pretty quickly at exactly what they hoped for.

Sellers need to understand that realtor or stager feedback is not a personal criticism of the way they live or their self-expression. You want to attract the widest possible number of potential buyers. Moving and realtor commissions cost what they cost, so you might as well get the best deal you can and hopefully not drag out the process longer than you have to.

We bought a house from a similar family--They felt that we needed to pay more for all their "wonderful family memories". A buyer isn't looking to buy your charming memories, they're looking to make their own. Clear your junk out and let the house speak for itself. That poor woman is so annoying!

Great job on the interior. Anthony is worth his weight in gold with his talent. It's a real shame the exterior wasn't addressed on the same footing as the inside. With older homes the ole saying goes...As the outside, so is the inside. Curb appeal wasn't just an off the cuff phrase....it's EXTREMELY important to wary buyers scared to buy. I bet a lot of buyers didn't even show up just from the chaos of the building and yard.

Years ago there was a couple in my Sunday school class. She was pregnant with her second child and they expressed that they needed helping move. So several couples agreed to help. We got to the house. NO PREPARATIONS had been made. No packing boxes or packing materials. Toys, dirty dishes, dirty clothes, clutter all over. Turns out the couple expected the rest of us to come with the packing supplies, pack all the boxes, and then move them to their new house while he was busy working and she was busy taking care of her toddler (She was not having a problem pregnancy that might keep her from packing). I helped one time for a couple of hours, then left. I had two toddlers of my own and a part-time job. My husband had his own full-time job. Helping was one thing. Being expected to totally do someone else's job was another.

I practically packed up my husband’s EX-wifes house so she and their daughter could move. I offered to HELP but my husband and I were left having to do 90% of it!! She took the cat to the cat-sitters, bought McDonald’s and avoided being at the house for 4 out of the 5 hours we were there. When she and their daughter eventually got back, she had the gall to tell me how to wrap the copious amount of fairies and tat she had!! I said to my husband that we need to get out of here and told her that we had run out of time. She had the cheek to ask if we were coming back tomorrow! NO LAZY Bomes, we’re NOT!! Some people eh?

Realize that if your home is cluttered it will sell for less money and take longer to sell. We bought a cluttered home that had been on the market for two years at a bargain price. The ironic thing was the people threw everything in a dumpster or donated it when they moved. Why would they not listen to their realtor for two years? For us the house sold the first day on the market six years later and for 80K more. It actually looked to be the size on the listing. It was a beautiful house, you just couldn't see the house before.

Omg I clean and assist homeowners in moving by packing for them as my job. I see these kind of things all the time. Clutter seems to be a common culprit. People buy so much and it usually ends up just collecting dust and taking up space. By the time someone like myself goes into a home like this, it is just filthy. About 85% ends up being garbage and goes to the landfill. It still blows my mind how much Americans waste.

having a nice, calm, peaceful color on the walls of every room will also have a positive affect on children's behavior. And with less clutter, less to clean up and pick up, the children will not have decision fatigue, their brains will get a rest, and they will do better at school, sleep better, the whole house will be more calm. If children have more structure, and can actually see all of their things and not have to stack up their things because they have too many, they can learn how to manage their own spaces and will learn how to put things away, and learn organizational skills that they will use their entire lives. Do your children a favor and declutter !!!

Because I can, I have picked up some bargains over the years. Often just new paint and flooring, as well as minimal decor is all that’s required. Sometimes what is needed is more extensive-updating bathrooms and kitchen-you have to do the math and determine what initial outlay will garner the most return.

I don't understand people being reluctant to pack their stuff up. You're moving out anyway! All your stuff is getting in the way of buyers ability to imagine themselves in the house. This should have been obvious to anyone. I like the changes they made, but TBH it may have sold just as well without most of the new work because packing up their personal stuff and reducing most of the furniture was probably all that was needed. I sold my house in one day by moving my personal stuff out (a huge chore, but it has to be done anyway) and staging it the way I'd want to see it if I was buying.

Do they ever mention the city these shows are filmed in? As an American, I find it rather amazing the houses are SO small. Of course, they all look cluttered; there's no room for anything! As soon as the new buyers move in with their furniture, clothing and personal effects, no doubt it will look cluttered again. Basically, they redecorated the house to look like a hotel suite where all you bring is your suitcase.
In the case of this particular house, who would ever have the only bathroom in the BASEMENT? I live in a home that was built in the late 1800's and I have far more space. No modern bells & whistles, but it has more character than new places do.

A good tip is to take photos of your home room by room. Look at the photos and you’ll be amazed at how you see things differently. When you live in the home you almost become blind to your clutter. Looking at photos somehow helps you to see the clutter or things that need to be changed around.
Listing photos usually never have clutter or excess furniture. You’d also be likely not even want to look at a home if the online listing photos are filled with clutter.

I have had fun watching some of these old episodes. But one thing that occurred to me was: houses that looks like they were decorated like in the sims, sold the fastest.
I know it is an odd comparison, but it actually makes sense. When you build a house in the sims, it often looks very tidy, well decorated, but without being overstuffed with personal items. Because there is no 'overflow', it will look like the cupboards have plenty of storage space for what is needed. The style is often more cohesive (because you built it in one go, whereas you, in your real home, tend to acumulate things over time, making the styles a bit mixed, and sometimes dated).
Sure, you can build or decorate to be messy or bad taste. But moste of the time, it will still look better than the average house.
