What Anthony didn’t mention: When you remove wall to wall carpet, there is usually a space between the bottom of the baseboards and the floor. This space is usually concealed with quarter round that bridges this gap and hides any uneven cuts where the hardwood flooring meets the bottom of the wall. It also slows down drafts at the floor. Adding quarter round is not terribly difficult, but it does require patience to measure, cut and fit the joints, corners and open ends.
Honestly buyers need to start looking over the furniture. The furniture is not theirs and it's for the color they can always repaint. They need to look at the bones of the house the structure. I can understand painting, especially in this case and maybe take some furniture out and put it in storage.
Having worked on 0roperty management for 25 years, I can tell you that most people lack creative visualization skills. They can't visualize their furniture placement etc even in vacant units. You have to really help them. That's why realtors tell you to depersonalize your home as .much as possible
The rocked house looked super neutral! Even if it doesn’t appeal to everyone, a coat of paint is enough. They have great taste and are super clean and orderly! ❤️❤️
This is actually one of the better Refreshes that I've seen here! In regards to Catherine's home : Well done , considering what it looked like on the " Before ", I just think the Master Bedroom needed a sitting chair , to help it feel cozy. The mirror across from the dining table, great Feng Shui on that . The outside of her home was so lovely, the curb appeal certainly made a difference!
All the houses look amazing after however I find it difficult every time solid wood gets painted, especially house 2 on it's exterior, the wooden details on the outside reminded me of Europe and I would love a house with features like that on the outside.
I like this channel. I don't believe anyone meant to hurt feelings. I understand what you meant when you said from old maid to.blushing bride. I am a blushing "old maid".
The female homeowner has such pretty eyes as it lights up her face & a beautiful face too. So many of the women on this show overdo their makeup but she has classic beauty that makes her shine. Yes a woman can give another woman a compliment without being gay
2nd house was so cold looking with all that grey before. They should have painted the dining room a soft cream or beige as leaving it grey looks cold & bad. In the kitchen Anthony should have moved the refrigerator over & put the lower cabinets back to where the were probable originally were. Then he could have still had the breakfast bar in the corner with floating shelves above. Leaving the refrigerator where it’s at make the kitchen boxy & small. On the porch they should have put a colorful planter of flowers between the chairs to add color outside
It's all beautiful but that wooden sled is just awesome!! And the orange slices really sparkle in the windows! Love your channel...I watch every video. Happy Holidays!
That house was uncluttered, clean and neat. This show portrays house shoppers as so limited in imagination, they can't see beyond paint colors, furniture that is out of scale or just not decorated to their liking. edit: remarks for 1st house 2nd house basically the same.. v clean, neat but again, not the norm in decor btw - 2nd homeowners were cute...I loved his skull& crossbones on his shirt!!
I think you'd be surprised how many potential home buyers don't have any imagination. Those of us who don't have that problem are constantly perplexed by those that lack it.
So far I’m on house #1. I came to comments b-c I couldn’t understand why it didn’t sell. It’s a lovely, clean home. No clutter anywhere. I wouldn’t like the paint colors for me, but goodness, that wouldn’t keep me from choosing that house. I haven’t seen the transformation, yet. I’m sure it’s lovely, but I really didn’t see anything wrong with it before. Kitchen cabinets maybe “dated,” but they looked to be in immaculate condition. At least from the first look. I’m only at the beginning of the show.
The homeowner has to discard the furniture when she moves out. It might even clutter the new husband's house. They should just thin out the furniture, and move the rest around.
As immaculately kept as the place was, I wouldn’t be surprised if she isn’t already living with him. These shows like to add drama. I just watched another one where the (previous) owner wrote in the comment that at the time of the show (12 years ago), she & her husband (at the time) had been separated for 6 months, but the show producers had them on as if they were still a couple & getting ready to travel the world together. In reality, they divorced soon after.
marvelous. Tarek and Christina (hgtv) should take notes from you. they spend (or at least they say) money as if its free. lol. 1200$ to demolish a wooden wall and whatnot. you are doing better. thanks.
Looks old fashioned bc the show is 15 years old 😂 pretty sure the only thing from the uk in this show is the hostess. The houses seem to be mostly in Canada.
I actually love the color in the bedroom, but I will admit that it's a very personal color and needs to be a neutral color to sell. I would adore that color in my bedroom now and use fabric in Boho print and some old gold decor here and there. I realize this was many years ago (2008?) and it's now 2023, so it's interesting to see how styles have changed since then.
In todays market this home would be snapped up. Painting is nothing and new owners usually tend to bring their own furniture. Just shows the difference between a buyers and a sellers market.
I do not understand the need to paint the furniture. Is the homeowner taking the furniture to her new home, or throwing it out? An unnecessary renovation! Same with the wall hangings in the dining room and corridor! There will be a lot of holes in the walls once they are removed.
@30:29 they want to “modernize” the pillars to go with the rest of the house. Yet, they keep saying the house decor needs to look more “traditional.” Plus, those pillars actually match the staircase pillars (not the right word) supporting the bannister.
People who don't like purple master bedrooms can paint it when they move in!!!! 🤦🏼♀ And that would be the day I paint my furniture because fussy, unimaginative buyers can't see past it.
I agree, I love my furniture the way they are, I am not having mine painted for anybody. If buyers want to see something else I would rather rent furniture for staging.
One is actually supposed to ensure their property appeals to a wider audience (read buyers). This is why such shows remain relevantl/necessary sounding boards
Yet another woman, getting married, selling her house, and I bet that money is paying off HIS house, and her name isn't on the deed. smh Come on, ladies! Hang on to your investment!
I doubt it. She doesn't strike me as desperate and seems very intelligent. Not only that, unless her home is paid for she won't make very much off it depending on how much she owes.
I dont understand how the furniture/appliances are supposed to affect the buyer's decision. Unless the sale is all-in ( includes furnitures, fixtures and appliances), the buyer should just look at the structure from top to bottom, make sure the roof and ceiling are in good condition, the walls and floors are stable. Remain blind to the color. Repainting is easy. Interior designing is the buyer's prerogative.
She didnt have to insult the lady about her purple bedroom to get her point across. She could have just said that neutral colored walls are what people are looking for.

I wonder how she should tell the homeowners what needs to be done, if simply telling is meant to be rude? How would you tell someone who called you for helping, if advises are rude? I'm really confused what you feel is rude? 🤔

Exactly!
Her bedroom furniture was pretty, in my opinion. I hate the thought of painting it.
Like anything to do with humans there is a psychology factor that must be anticipated and dealt with.

The cost of staging a house is minimal for the impact

The pillar change made a big difference. Something so simple .
And that couple is beautiful!
Anthony is awesome❤
love all the changes
Why putting carpet in a mud room? A laminate floor would have been cheaper and more practical.
I agree. And I think a bench would have been a practical addition.
The house with the black, white and red color motif is more fitting for a condominium in the city, not the suburbs
Nothing is unsellable anywhere in 2022!
Nothing unsellable in 2023 either!
Imagine if these folks in this series had held onto their properties 😮💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
Very beautiful refresh !!!
Great makeovers
Can’t believe how old fashioned all of these homes are even after their makeovers - so different in the uk.
I believe the first episode was in 2008(???). I'm watching this from the States and my, how things have changed in 15 years.
Looks old fashioned bc the show is 15 years old 😂 pretty sure the only thing from the uk in this show is the hostess. The houses seem to be mostly in Canada.

The front of that ultra modern bungalow would have looked better with some vertical slats in the triangle above the door
Sophie has great tact when taking to the homeowners.
I love the living room.
I loved the ultra modern home - very clean
I wonder why the contractor is not the host? He sure does a lot of wonderful renovations. Well, just wondrin'...
I find the prices mentioned for renovations unreal - 90 CAD to paint exterior, painting 3 rooms for 200 CAD

This show is quite a few years old (before house prices in Toronto area went insane).
I've heard that yellow kitchens tend to sell better. Wonder if that is true on average.
I like white kitchens, but I think they're over done, so I painted my kitchen a nice light grey with black handles. It came out great.

Rather liked the square/boxy valance at the windows - pity the fabric wasn’t ideal. Those autumnal prints on the wall look old fashioned
