This is a MUST DO mod for a Porsche Macan!

  • In this video, I show my experience installing the 034 Motorsport subframe inserts in my 2015 Porsche Macan S. Although these are marketed for Audi Q5/SQ5, these share a lot of parts with the Macan, including the subframe.
    This modification made the rear of my Macan quieter while driving over uneven and bumpy roads. It also made the rear very solid, which completes the drivetrain + subframe stiffening and tidiness.
    This was an excellent mod!

    Ooh, I've noticed the rear end wiggle from soft Subframe bushings on our Macan. I'll consider this in the future for sure!

      Thanks for watching. Yes, it is a nice improvement. Especially if your bushings are soft and noisy… this will eliminate even the squeaky noise from these bushings.

    This is like the 9th Macan video I've seen with Quick Jacks. I guess I'll buy some now that people have been using them. I didn't trust them before, but I loved the concept. Lol. I've got subframe inserts on my S550 Mustang. They make a difference.

      Thanks for watching! Yes, QuickJacks for those of us who don’t have the space or the money to install anything else is a very good alternative. The only complaint is the setup hassle every time I want to lift the car. They are a bit heavy.
      But once is setup, it is a breeze. I have to say that it is easier, quicker and safer than setting up with jack stands.

    I did this mod on my 2018 Macan GTS and it actually reconciled me with normal height suspension setting. I was always driving in lower setting to have more stability and less rear end wiggling. Now the alignment seems to stay on course and the rear end moves less.

    Great vid! I think I’ll do this mod as well as all my other bushing mods have been replaced except for these by 034. I noticed you don’t have SS brake lines yet. I got some from flat 6 and man what a difference in brake feel, highly recommend them.

      Muchas Gracias! Por supuesto. Me dejas saber como te puedo ayudar. El modelo 2016 es uno robusto. Asegúrate de que no tenga problemas con el “transfer case” ya que la garantía para el 2016 ya probablemente ha expirado. Esa garantía fue extendida a 7 años. Además, modelos hasta el 2018 tienden at tener problemas de liquéo de aceite a través de la cubierta de la cadena de tiempo. Son 2 tornillos que tienden a fallar. Esos son los problemas mayores reportados. Es recomendado que completes una inspección pre-compra por un experto. Déjame saber si necesitas más ayuda. Buena suerte!

      @@porscheDIY Muchísimas gracias, los tornillos ya fueron cambiados, le hicieron el PDK fluir, las bujías y los coil packs, el vehículo tiene 114k millas, voy a revisar lo del transfer case porque no lo sabía. Es posible que se puede chequear a través del vin ? Me imagino que el historial de un reemplazo así y más cubierto por garantía debe estar registrado en la base de datos Porsche Service Center.

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  9 місяців тому +1

      @@RG-fc9hh correcto. Si el transfer case no ha fallado, no vas a verlo en historial como reemplazado. La garantía solo es aplicable en caso de falla. Si no ha fallado hasta ahora, debes estar bien. Con 114K millas, debes reemplazar otros fluidos, como el transfer case, la parte de engranajes de cambio del PDK y el diferencial.

    Great video! Raul always doing the mods many people contemplate doing on the Macan and you make it very simple. Did you notice a "positive" improvement? I did the trans insert on my Macan and felt the car was more jerky so I removed it.

      Thanks for your kind words. Appreciate the support!
      This mod will stiffen the subframe and preserve geometry during launches and cornering. I was surprised at how much more solid this small mod made the rear, which leads me to believe that the subframe is somewhat floating back there…. It even improved the body roll.
      No Noise or Vibration on this specific one. Noise in my case was actually reduced… as I said, all squeaks are gone. As it relates to transfer of car vibration to the cabin, there is none. There is more probability of feeling some increase vibration if you do the transmission mount insert as you mentioned, but this doesn’t bother me. As it relates to harshness, the rear will be firmer, so, it may add harness to the ride. But I do like stiffness in my suspension, so I’m fine. It still makes a great daily driver, and still nowhere near my 718 Cayman in terms of stiffness/firmness. But it adds this sports car feeling to it.

    Good JOB !!!
    You've made quite a few modifications to the Macan. Which ones do you think are best?

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  9 місяців тому +2

      Difficult to say. Yes, I have made countless modifications to make the Macan as mine as possible. The combination of all drivetrain mods (including the ones in this video) were enjoyable to complete, and have made significant difference and not that expensive. Other mods, like all the audio mods I have made had been extremely fun but quite expensive. ECU Tuning is also up there. But the one I like the most was changing my headlights from BiXenon to LED. Unfortunately I did that prior to start making videos... but going through the whole process of replacement and coding (which I did myself), and making them work, was very rewarding. And at the same time, it has been the mod that most changed and modernized my Macan exterior.
      In any case, thank you for your kind words, and thank you for watching. I hope you subscribe to the channel as more mods and DIYs are still coming!

    Why torque 115 Nm + 90°? Why not just torque to whatever Nm the 90° gives you?

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  8 місяців тому +2

      That’s the manufacturer’s spec. They normally do this to signal which bolts are torque to yield and should not be reused. In this case, these are torque to yield (one time use) bolts.
      Also, when you are torquing to yield with the angle, torque measurement could become perfunctory and no longer valid, as you are yielding the bolt it may respond differently in every case.

    First time im seeing those wheel stands. What are they? I also own a macan and QJs but usually out traditional jack stands under the QJ for backup.

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  2 місяці тому +1

      These jacks are SAFE JACKS. They don’t sell them anymore… but the way they work is I would put the top portion on the jack to the Macan jacking point. Once the car is lifted, then I would install the legs… then remove the hydraulic jack. Since I got the QJ, I’m using the SAFE Jacks as a tertiary backup.

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  10 місяців тому

      I’m not sure I understand your question. This mod is not related to the Macan thermostat, but rather the rear subframe.

  • @meseahunt

    so was the oem parts defective that the change was necessary? I am all for upgrades that need to be done when oem parts are crap but they looked to be ok??

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  10 місяців тому +3

      Thanks for watching! The OEM parts were not in a failed state, if that is what you are asking. However, these OEM parts are plastic inserts held by a metal plate. Because this subframe holds a lot of weight in those bushings, there is some deflection with these plastic inserts that is better controlled with an aluminum insert billet. They are designed to limit movement in the rear subframe mounts to maintain proper suspension geometry when cornering, and improve the responsiveness of the rear suspension and differential.
      So, this is not a repair of defective parts. It is a mod, hence an improvement over OEM. Through my test drive, I confirmed that it really tidy up the rear with a bit tidier body roll and solid performance overall over all type of roads. As an added bonus, it eliminated all the squeaks and noise I had in my Macan rear subframe.

      It will fit in your 2018. All subframe part number variants 95B.505.235B B through F are the same. Mine ends in B, and F is what newer Macan (2021 and newer) are coming with. F variant is what is being spec’d now for my 2015 Macan as B variant and others prior to F had been discontinued. You shouldn’t have any issues. Let me know if you have any questions…

      New Macan owner here in Australia, I notice the subframe looks fairly rusty, having seen/heard a couple of mentions in the past is this an issue across the board or just with harsh winter conditions? Cheers for the great video and this looks likes a good mod to do.

    Why do you need to change this?

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  5 місяців тому +1

      As stated in the video, this mod firms up the rear subframe bushings, making the whole rear firmer and more compliant. It also eliminated squeaky noises coming from the rear subframe bushings. You have to feel it to know. It is a good addition overall, in my opinion.

    Which model QJ do you have?

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  10 місяців тому

      QuickJack 7000TLX. The reason I went with this one is because I have a 2016 Volvo XC90 that is huge and heavy. But for a Macan I guess other smaller QJ will be OK. You need to measure distance between jacking points and know the curb weight of your car. I also use this 7000TLX to lift my 718 Cayman and it barely fits…. So, is a balance and depends on the cars you have.
