I’m a Liverpool fan. Started watching football mid 80’s with my dad. He had videos on George Best and i remember watching them along with my Liverpool games. Only his. He is the greatest and I’ve always said it.
Gordon M . I agree about his love of making goals for others. I remember a brilliant goal where he 'casually' flicked a ball to Bobby Charlton to thunder his shot in versus Liverpool ! Utd wearing white. it was on the opening sequence of MOTD I think ? early 70's . But his genius often did make others look superfluous !!!
George was a gem of a young man I was filming in Manchester when I met him in a Salford pub At the time I ran a weekend Boy's Football club in London and we sent players to Chelsea trials I asked George for some signed photos for the lads He made sure I had them before I returned to London May he be in peace An absolute Football genius and a humble man
Great players come along now and then , my Dad use to rave about Duncan Edwards , but he was before my time , but the 2 I admire most is Bobby Moore , because i'm West Ham , and George . He could do things with a ball most could only dream about .There was a football magazine out in the 60's and 70's called GOAL , and in one edition George was on the back page , after a game with a bottle of milk , socks rolled down , and his legs coverd in stud marks where players had a kick at him . He was and is The Best British player of all time and there will never be another like him . It was my pleasure to watch you play George

John O'Brien .All GENIUS are floored. I seen him play and he was fucking MAGIC, no one could even land a kick on him let alone tackle him. A total one off.
Amazing player! Definitely one of the most graceful, aesthetically-compelling players the game has ever seen. For me, he had more natural talent than either Giggs or Ronaldo - those two other maestro Manchester United wingers - and his dribbling prowess is up there with the likes of Maradona and Messi. Imagine playing on those quagmire pitches with heavy boots and heavier balls, and receiving very little protection from referees, and yet still being able to make the game look ridiculously easy. If ever a player embodied the beautiful game!

A panic stricken group of Sky Blues players buzzing around this Red Devil tormenting them !! the score ? I think it may have been 2-2 , but that was irrelevant ! Best player ever I think !
Forget the rest after 67. I watched him play in 68-69. No way I can forget that. He got 4-5 goals in one game it really is unforgettable. The overhead bicycle kick goal he got playing for Northern Ireland its unforgettable.
How many players are loved by the people? Look how the people lined the streets at his funeral. George superseded sport. If only he could have had a long career at Man. Utd. That was everyone's loss.
A one off, never to be emulated in the world of football,........ an entertainer/genius.......i was lucky to see him play as a young lad growing up in london.
George best became a superstar at a very young age.Teenager.Young and naïve.He was a kid for crying out loud.Manchester United should have done a better job at protecting him at a time when alcohol went hand in hand with the game.George says it in this interview, quote 'after winning the European cup everyone was like job done. That's it.Nothing more to prove.'Demoralised is the feeling. That's it?What do you mean that's it?I'm still only 22.!!!
That was the most poignant moment of this film. You could see the frustration still after so many years. As someone else said, he was just too good. About blaming Manchester U, I don't know... he was ready for a promotion, but there was no place to promote him to.
The core group of players in 1968 were getting on, as well as Busby. That is why such a feeling was in the air and the club never looked to go beyond that.
No club had ever had to deal with a player with the profile that George had after the "el Beatle" game. He was the original "lesson learned" that has shown clubs how to protect players from exposure early on in their careers, but you can't stop boys being boys. Utd are really very good at shielding younger players now, but that didn't stop Kiko Macheda from playing Billy Big Bollocks in clubs and casinos around Manchester city centre after scoring two goals for the 1st team. George in his autobiography revealed that his mum was also an alcoholic, who, also died, from related problems. Whatever you do you can't make anyone go against their own nature. I never saw him play, but having grown up listening too my dad (utd fan), mum (utd fan both Stretford Ender's in the 60's) and both grandads (Citeh fan & Stockport County fan) all talk about seeing him play, I can say that it is one of the biggest tragedies in football, his potential going unfulfilled, and the fact that nobody was able to soothe the fire within him on a personal level.
Best played before my time but from everything I have seen, he was absolutely incredible. If he played now he would be as good as Messi and Ronaldo if not better
Better by far, the game has gone soft, Best did it on mud heaps with opponents assualting him every time he got the ball. Brave as a lion and never went down. George Best by a mile.
I Got to meet Pele about 3 years ago, Spoke with him about George, He told me he tried to get George to go and live in Brazil after I had smuggled George from Hospital after his liver op. Sad he didn't go and maybe he would still be with us.
George was a one off, you couldn't coach what he had. All natural, had it all, and brave as a lion. Never dived or faked injury. Pure magic. Never forgotten.
What a beautiful documentary. What a man. Legend and Greatest succer player of all time. Thanks to TV and internet that we still can see what he dış and left to us❤🙏R.I.P in the best place George Best🇨🇮
The greatest is Maradona, followed by Pele, followed by Cruyff. Messi and Ronaldo are great club players, but they are not so impressive at World Cup level.
Really this guy was the best. The pitches were crap, the defenders were brutal, the refs just ignored GBH, but Best just took them on and was a brilliant star, as good as Pele, better than Messi, the best I've ever seen. Many of his best performances were never filmed. The sight of him at Old Trafford getting the ball, looking up and running at a defence that knew he was going score and they couldn't stop him was awesome. When he did that and scored every man in the stadium wanted to be him for than moment. A football genius who never got the chance to shine in World Cups because Northern Island never qualified. His transfer value today would simply been off the scale. God Bless.
Rodney Marsh once correctly said that for 2 years (66-68) George Best was the best player of all time. Geniuses all seem to have struggles, look at Marradonna aswell.
I've seen George Best a couple of times playing against my team Everton back in the 60s.....his ability with the ball used to make me tingle....and I hated Man Utd ......but watching Best was something else.....💙...I used to imagine him playing in the same team as Alan Ball....I could only imagine....
"I used to go missing a lot... Miss Canada, Miss United Kingdom, Miss World." "I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."
See george best when I was 14 1968 at TOTTENHAM Wednesday night game 6 of us went sick off school and we got the cane next day but well worth it because i see george best i will never forget all.the cameras all.over the pitch when he came running out. And what a player. They say messi .Ronaldo. they couldn't play with the hard ball and heavy boots .like george best did .the greatest of all time ..
The fact that he could dribble with a ball that felt like a wet sponge when it rained, on a pitch that resembled a ploughed field, against defenders, who’s only skills were to try and kick the shit out of you, (ie: check out Ron Harris trying to stop him scoring against Chelsea). Just goes to prove what a fantastic footballer he was.
...i see how George chose to finish his plays instead of hooking a penalty shot when he got illegally tackled, maybe neymar should watch this if he hasn't and learn some gamer's etiquette
I will say this: I’ve never had to watch any Legend: Messi, Maradonna , ronaldhino , c Ronaldo, Pele, Ronaldo , Zidane , Owen? .. etc in slow motion. In fact today is the first time I’ve ever had to study a player in slow motion. Today is the first time in my entire life I’ve changed the playback speed in order to analyze a player. Usually my eyes are plenty quick to see every single movement, but not today. George Best.
There is no considering anything in my mind, BEST was blessed by the LORD he had phenomenal ball control and has Bobby More said he could turn on a sixpence, plus he could have 2 right feet or 2 left feet it didn't matter to George he was a brilliant footballer RIP GB.

What caused his descent was United's lack of ambition beyond that one European Cup. He turned to drink instead of a transfer. I know Liverpool & United hate each other but they didn't back then, Busby & Shankly were great friends, if only Best had moved to the up and coming Liverpool around that time, not for Liverpools sake who did fine without him, but for Bests and Football's sake, Shanks would have kept his feet on the ground and got the best out of him (no pun intended)

Small, BIG Header, balance, brave, two feet, fast, fun skills, thrills - The BEST!!
I saw him play past his prime and he was still the best player on the pitch
Grew up in So Cal in the 70s. Went to many of the LA Aztecs games in 76 and 77. Best was so nice to all the kids whether it be at camps or during half time etc. The NASL certainly wasnt England but for those few of us playing soccer, we were glad to have a hero in our youth. He is a big reason why I continued to play well into adulthood and would never touch a drop of alcohol.
He was banging Miss World and Miss Universe the same night - Best that.
T Z yeah 😂
@T Z Most women who know what they want are not concerned about what others think or do. They want Results.
Multiple male studs in this instance would achieve a desirable Podium Finish!!
Absolutely hands down - the greatest player that ever graced the turf. A true legend - and one handsome Irish ☘️ man too. Rx
Riki Newton he was northern Irish
@@alfiethompson3682 , think it was more north east.
But we wont split hairs Alfredo.
The greatest player to ever play the game George Best had it all we've seen some fantastic players since but the Belfast Boy was head & shoulders above them all RIP
George was a selfless guy and player. He loved making goals but his own goals are spectacular, they freeze time like the best music.
Watch the skies for the Wrath of God...
he was selfless on the field, but seflish outside it..
George was a great player, but he was definitely selfish on the pitch- to the exasperation of his teammates.
George was a gem of a young man
I was filming in Manchester when I met him in a Salford pub
At the time I ran a weekend Boy's Football club in London and we sent players to Chelsea trials
I asked George for some signed photos for the lads
He made sure I had them before I returned to London
May he be in peace
An absolute Football genius and a humble man
Great players come along now and then , my Dad use to rave about Duncan Edwards , but he was before my time , but the 2 I admire most is Bobby Moore , because i'm West Ham , and George .
Saw George and Rodney Marsh on a Sunday tv interview and both had stud marks on their legs. Rodney's ankle was so swollen he wore carpet slippers.
18 years today, always remembered
The fifth beatle! What a legend! Great dribbler, could shoot with either foot, take a hard tackle and keep on going, amazing acceleration, take on and get past 5 defenders! the best player of his era!!!!
From a Baggies fan,he was without doubt the best player i have ever seen and he played in an era of awful muddy pitches and without the protection that todays pampered whimps get. R.I.P George, thanks for the memories.
the best player to never play in a world cup.and as good as anybody that ever did
John O'Brien .All GENIUS are floored. I seen him play and he was fucking MAGIC, no one could even land a kick on him let alone tackle him. A total one off.
Rowdy Yates : I really really really really really really really envy u.
Because is country Don"t qualify..GBest its not from England its from N.Irland..
John O'Brien Oh Shit
I'd say Cruyff, Di Stefano, Puskas, Ronaldo, Maldini and Messi are ahead of him in terms of "greatness"
Always remembered, Never forgotten. 🍀.
Exactly makes me proud to have been born in Belfast
After all these years I'm still baffled that Northern Ireland never made it to the 1970 World cup. George, Pat Jennings, Pat Rice & Dereck Dougan were legends!
we'll get there again one day don't you worry
Maybe those players weren't quite as good as nostalgia suggests.
@@Macca1000001 It takes more than 4 great players to qualify for the world cup finals.
Were George born in England, we would have won the 1970 world cup as well !
a true superstar if he was playing today know one could afford him!!!!!
If he was playing tiday he would be worth zero. As no team would sell him. For any amount if money.

@@patmctallica3522 Read what ppl are saying. These are ppl who saw him live. Saw televised footage week in week out. Personally I respect that observer more than ppl now because football is a lot easier now. All I'll say to you is look at the footage of him running with the ball early in this video. It is surreal. That was an old school training ground and he's running with the ball as if its made of feathers.

I saw George Best and the FT Lauderdale Strikers play Pele and the New York Cosmos when I was a kid about '79-'80. Poetry in motion it was when Pele got Bested. He is without a doubt the most fantastically skilled player I have ever witnessed. R.I.P. Georgie

Legend to the club.
What george Best had was rare and unique he had looks talent and charisma
Imagine how .uch he would be worth today a priceless talent yet to be beaten
I was lucky enough to have seen him play at Highfield Rd, Coventry City in '72 I think ? I was about 10 yrs old, evening kick off , floodlights, school day, & the sense of electricity all around the Stadium every time he touched the ball will stay with me forever !!
5:06 - 'If I hadn't of been Irish'. Legend!

To see MU and Santos in Australia in the 60s was a dream. Pele, Best, Law, Charlton and many more. Is something. I cherish .
From a Liverpool fan what a player respect one of the greatest
a journalist once said to pele ,you are the greatest player ever , he replied no , george best is . what an honour . rip wee georgie .
Best and Cruyff so similar. Both Legends. better than anyone. overlooked by everyone.
Cruyff still much better than Best
Us Bests have always loved the Game.
Best played before my time but from everything I have seen, he was absolutely incredible. If he played now he would be as good as Messi and Ronaldo if not better
Nowhere nere near messi
Better by far, the game has gone soft, Best did it on mud heaps with opponents assualting him every time he got the ball. Brave as a lion and never went down. George Best by a mile.

Hurricane Higgins.
God Bless.

Not sure why; I guess because his movements are so subtle , simple , quick , fuckn effective it’s difficult to catch what his style actually is ♥️
There is no considering anything in my mind, BEST was blessed by the LORD he had phenomenal ball control and has Bobby More said he could turn on a sixpence, plus he could have 2 right feet or 2 left feet it didn't matter to George he was a brilliant footballer RIP GB.
