I had this problem, only noticed it when my AC stopped blowing cold sitting still. Car only overheated once and that was probably a year after the problem occurred. Great video!
My 2012 Chevy Sonic is doing the same. My air stop blowing cold. Now my tempatyte light keeps coming on. So do I need to purchase the part in this video? I thought I was going to have to replace the radiator.
I know this is an older video, but I'm having overheating problems with my 2013 sonic 1.8L. However, it's not happening at a standstill, it's happening while driving. It's building pressure in the reservoir, which makes me think thermostat. Do you know if when the car is off, does the thermostat rest at the open position? My thought process is that if the thermostat isn't allowing flow while running, but opens when turned off, that would fit all my issues. The thermostat is like 100 bucks though because it has the housing+ sensors, etc. The good old days of having a 4 dollar thermostat are gone it looks like
Those pesky wire wound resistors on back of the fan shroud! Sadly ya can't just buy the resistor... gotta buy the whole assembly. However rock auto has em for $88 bucks incl. shipping.
My ac doesn't run and neither does the fan, but got a new fav today at just temporarily hooked it up and started car but ac still won't come on and neither did the Ac. Any idea's? Took it to the dealer beforehand and they said it was the fan but wanted $957 bucks to swap it out
First thing I would be testing would be the fuses of course. Did you do that? The fan could’ve been bad and caused the fuse to blow so you could need both
I got a 2012 sonic 1.8 the fan doesnt run i replaced the relays and the jcase fuse .it only turn on when the ac is on .sometimes whe i plug and unplug the relay star runing in high speed but doesnt turn off i have to unplug the relay and turn of the car then i started the car again and fan doesnt turn on .it turn on just when unplug and plug back the relay any ideas?
I cranked up the volume to hear better then at about 2.00 min into the video that air gun in the background went off and made me sh#! my pants. I have a 2012 chevy sonic 1.8 hatchback. I have been smelling a hot smell every time I drive the car even for just a few minutes?? My coolant levels are good and I can't find anything wrong. I have 129,000 miles and have replaced the water pump once and the thermostat 2. Water pump and thermostat was less than 6 months ago. It smells kinda like an iron heating up if that makes any sense. I have always changed the oil at 5,000 miles full synthetic. Have flushed out coolant 2 times. Transmission fluid drain and refill twice.
Would be a great video if I didn't have to have the volume up to hear you. Unfortunately that means permanent heating loss from the air ratchet in the background.

Keisha Rose thats exactly what happened with mine. It needs the fan like this video shows. Really easy repair.

please check the 40 amp jcase cooling fan fuse before replacing the radiator fan
Why would you do that when you have power and ground does it make sense

Sorry, the air tool scared you. Not sure what that could be. Do you think possibly a slight oil leak from a valve cover?
