    I hope the guard wasn't seriously injured in his fall, but I have to say...overall, I was very impressed by the horse. He had his moment when he thought, "Enough is enough" and he shed his rider, then he went back to being a good boy and followed the pack. You have to love the little bit of rebellion followed by contrition...good horsie!

    Love how they just carried on. No one running to get the horse. They are herd animals and all knew he would just fall into line on his own, albeit without the rider..... :)

      "Same damn thing every day."

      The best thing you can do at that point is stay silent,calm and see it it is absolutely safe to either catch the horse by the bridle or if needed, direct it the other way.
      Am an equestrian. Screamibg only makes it worse and that's the first thing you learn as a beginner rider.
      If something happens, you better keep your mouth shut, don't scream and only call for help all while trying your all to calm the horse down.
      Horses are like mirrors. If you are anxious, the horse will be anxious. You get scared, guess what, you are in the ER in minutes.

    These are soldiers from the army. I believe they have to learn to ride and must supply the horse themselves. They should learn to ride. As a riding instructor from Germany I think they could all do with a sitz longe. And the horses need more work so they are a bit tired!

    • @headshot_hermionegranger7401
      @headshot_hermionegranger7401 3 роки тому +14

      The horses are actually generally provided and cared for by the army. They graduate a traditional cavalry training school (a 16 week program if I remember correctly). Some of them have no previous riding experience. During this program they are taught to mount, walk, trot, canter, and jump while keeping control of their horse. The soldiers themselves have very little say in the manner of their instruction, as it is based off a system which has been developed over centuries.
      They spend half the year on ceremonial duties and the other half meeting training requirements and deploying as needed. Speaking as a former member of a similar unit in the United States, they do a great job and it is very clear they take pride in their work. Respect for the horse is instilled from minute one of training- they eat first, they are cared for first, and if a building is on fire and they are inside, we go in to save them. Quite literally, our unit SOPs stated "save the horses" but never said anything about fellow troopers. I would assume that they are taught this in the same manner we were, as our training manuals were written based on theirs.
      The horses are actually quite well cared for- they get predawn rides through London, they see vets, farriers, dentists, and tack fitters on a regular basis, and I do believe I've also read that they also get sent out to pasture on a regular schedule. (sorry, info dump I know- will admit to being a slight bit of a nerd on this subject).

    The bits are extremely harsh, cruel. This combined with poor horsemanship results in the horse exploding like this. It's time these riders learnt to ride in a rope halter with one rein only and until the rider fully understands the value of this he should NEVER be allowed to progress to two reins, let alone ride with a bit. The mouth of a horse is extremely sensitive. I could go on, but feel that I'm wasting words.
